We get literally hundreds of quakes every week.
In January a 7.1 hit near our major population center and all it did was break some houses in a southern town and jostle stuff around.
4.0 in Alaska is practically a daily occurrence.

Get the fuck out of north america and bring with you a myriad of supplies, find a nice quiet place in Europe to hole up in and try not to die until society restarts in whatever new form it takes.

Yellowstone is extremely unlikely to blow though, and if it does the damage it can do right now is much more trivial.

Instead of rolling cancer, let's discuss previous Pacific Rim happenings. I'll start:

1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake

>With a moment magnitude of 6.9 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of IX (Violent), the shock was responsible for 63 deaths and 3,757 injuries. The Loma Prieta segment of the San Andreas Fault System had been relatively inactive since the 1906 San Francisco earthquake (to the degree that it was designated a seismic gap) until two moderate foreshocks occurred in June 1988 and again in August 1989.

>Due to the sports coverage of the 1989 World Series, it became the first major earthquake in the United States that was broadcast live on national television (and is sometimes referred to as the "World Series earthquake" as a result). Rush-hour traffic on the Bay Area freeways was lighter than normal due to nearly 62,000 people present at the game at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, and this may have prevented a larger loss of life, as several of the Bay Area's major transportation structures suffered catastrophic failures.

>The collapse of a section of the double-deck Nimitz Freeway in Oakland was the site of the single largest number of casualties for the event, but the collapse of man-made structures and other related accidents contributed to casualties occurring in San Francisco, Los Altos, and Santa Cruz.

You just had to do it, didn't you? You couldn't be satisfied with safely memeing Trump into office. No, that's not enough. Now all of the U.S. will be shrouded in a blanket of ashes from Hell. It's all because if that damned plane crash. You had to see the patterns. No godly being including Kek can stop the momentum. We've gotten too powerful. Influencing the populace is one thing, triggering environmental catastrophes is a whole lot more dangerous. We were already too deep into the rabbit hole, now we're bringing the deepest horrors it holds to the surface. There is no good ending to this storybook.

More happenings

1946 Aleutian Islands earthquake / Hawaii Tsunami

>The 1946 Aleutian Islands earthquake occurred near the Aleutian Islands, Alaska on April 1.

>The shock had a moment magnitude of 8.6 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of VI (Strong). It resulted in 165–173 casualties and over $26 million in damage.

>The seafloor along the fault was elevated, triggering a Pacific-wide tsunami with multiple destructive waves at heights ranging from 45–130 ft. The tsunami obliterated the Scotch Cap Lighthouse on Unimak Island, Alaska among others, and killed all five lighthouse keepers. Despite the destruction to the Aleutian Island Unimak, the tsunami had almost an imperceptible effect on the Alaskan mainland.

>The wave reached Kauai, Hawaii 4.5 hours after the quake, and Hilo, Hawaii 4.9 hours later. These Hawaiian natives were caught completely off-guard by the onset of the tsunami due to the inability to transmit any warnings from the destroyed posts at Scotch Cap. The effects of the tsunami also reached the West Coast of the United States.

>The tsunami was unusually powerful for the size of the earthquake. The event was classified as a tsunami earthquake due to the discrepancy between the size of the tsunami and the relatively low surface wave magnitude. The large-scale destruction prompted the creation of the Seismic Sea Wave Warning System, which later became the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in 1949.

1960 Valdivia earthquake

>The 1960 Valdivia earthquake of 22 May was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded. Various studies have placed it at 9.4–9.6 on the moment magnitude scale. It occurred in the afternoon, and lasted approximately 10 minutes. The resulting tsunami affected southern Chile, Hawaii, Japan, the Philippines, eastern New Zealand, southeast Australia and the Aleutian Islands.

>The epicenter was near Lumaco, approximately 570 kilometres (350 mi) south of Santiago, with Valdivia being the most affected city. The tremor caused localized tsunamis that severely battered the Chilean coast, with waves up to 25 metres (82 ft). The main tsunami raced across the Pacific Ocean and devastated Hilo, Hawaii. Waves as high as 10.7 metres (35 ft) were recorded 10,000 kilometres (6,200 mi) from the epicenter, and as far away as Japan and the Philippines.

>The death toll and monetary losses arising from this widespread disaster are not certain. Various estimates of the total number of fatalities from the earthquake and tsunamis have been published, ranging between 1,000 and 6,000 killed. Different sources have estimated the monetary cost ranged from US$400 million to 800 million (or $3.2 billion to $6.4 billion today, adjusted for inflation).

2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami (VERY RELEVANT)

>The 2011 earthquake off the Pacific coast of Tōhoku was a magnitude 9.0 undersea megathrust earthquake off the coast of Japan that occurred at 14:46 JST (05:46 UTC) on Friday 11 March 2011, with the epicenter approximately 70 kilometers (43 mi) east of the Oshika Peninsula of Tōhoku and the hypocenter at an underwater depth of approximately 30 km (19 mi).

>The earthquake triggered powerful tsunami waves that reached heights of up to 40.5 meters (133 ft) in Miyako in Tōhoku's Iwate Prefecture, and which, in the Sendai area, traveled up to 10 km (6 mi) inland. The earthquake moved Honshu (the main island of Japan) 2.4 m (8 ft) east, shifted the Earth on its axis by estimates of between 10 cm (4 in) and 25 cm (10 in), and generated sound waves detected by the low-orbiting GOCE satellite.

>The tsunami caused nuclear accidents, primarily the level 7 meltdowns at three reactors in the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant complex, and the associated evacuation zones affecting hundreds of thousands of residents.

They're prone to 1.0-3.0 magnitude earthquakes, but there have been a series of strong to major earthquakes throughout the pacific rim. Present concern is that more earthquakes are imminent, given the increase in seismic activity over the past 48 hours.

Not Honshu, just the Tohoku region. The resulting strain has led to quakes in previously unknown faults, and fears it might trigger the next big quake in Tokyo.

1958 Lituya Bay megatsunami

>The 1958 Lituya Bay megatsunami occurred on July 9 at 10:15:58 p.m., following an earthquake with a moment magnitude of 7.8 and a maximum Mercalli Intensity of XI (Extreme). The earthquake took place on the Fairweather Fault and triggered a rockslide of 30 million cubic meters (40 million cubic yards, and about 90 million tons) to fall from several hundred meters into the narrow inlet of Lituya Bay, Alaska.

>The impact was heard 50 miles (80 km) away, and the sudden displacement of water resulted in a megatsunami that destroyed vegetation up to 1,722 feet above the height of the bay and a wave that traveled across the bay with a crest reported by witnesses to be on the order of 98 feet (30 m) in height.

>This is the most significant megatsunami and the largest known in modern times. The event forced a re-evaluation of large wave events, and recognition of impact, rockfall and landslide events as a previously unknown cause of very large waves.

1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens

> On May 18, 1980, a major volcanic eruption occurred at Mount St. Helens, a volcano located in the state of Washington, United States. The eruption (a VEI 5 event) was the only significant one to occur in the contiguous 48 U.S. states since the 1915 eruption of Lassen Peak in California. The eruption was preceded by a two-month series of earthquakes and steam-venting episodes, caused by an injection of magma at shallow depth below the volcano that created a huge bulge and a fracture system on the mountain's north slope.

>An earthquake at 8:32:17 a.m. PDT (UTC−7) on Sunday, May 18, 1980, caused the entire weakened north face to slide away, creating the largest landslide ever recorded. This suddenly exposed the partly molten, gas- and steam-rich rock in the volcano to lower pressures. The rock responded by exploding a hot mix of lava and pulverized older rock toward Spirit Lake so fast that it overtook the avalanching north face.

>An eruption column rose 80,000 feet into the atmosphere and deposited ash in 11 U.S. states. At the same time, snow, ice and several entire glaciers on the volcano melted, forming a series of large lahars (volcanic mudslides) that reached as far as the Columbia River, nearly 50 miles (80 km) to the southwest. Less severe outbursts continued into the next day, only to be followed by other large, but not as destructive, eruptions later that year.

>Approximately fifty-seven people were killed directly, including innkeeper Harry R. Truman, photographer Reid Blackburn and geologist David A. Johnston. Hundreds of square miles were reduced to wasteland, causing over a billion U.S. dollars in damage, thousands of game animals were killed, and Mount St. Helens was left with a crater on its north side.
