This is the question I always ask a Libcuck whenever he proposes raising the minimum wage. Hypothetically raising the minimum wage to extreme amounts like $50 an hour, a liberal will almost always disagree with it, but will never be able to explain a logical reason why.

Once you do that, that is when you red-pill them on how the minimum wage in general will force the low-skilled and poorly educated out of the market. Works every time.
>>
>>71131597

Because you are devaluing the currency by doing so. The dollar is essentially labor in paper form. If you paid someone $100/hr to flip hamburgers you would devalue that $100 to the point where prices would rise dramatically to accommodate the increase in perceived wealth.
>>
>>71131457
Your economic plan checks out, but it fails to address unemployment. We should outlaw the use of machinery in factories and construction, so that greedy corporations are forced to hire actual workers. In addition, we should purposefully demolish America's highway system to create even more jobs building it back up!

Thanks, Keynes!

Because min wage must be set in tandem with welfare levels and rules. Min wage must be high enough that companies cannot use welfare to subsidise their labour costs. Nobody would work at the shitty rates/hours that many companies operate with unless they were getting welfare on the side.

Another way to do this would be to hit companies with fines/taxes for every employee they have that still collects some form of welfare payment.

Welfare is a key component in the stability of civilised nations. It is a bribe to stop the desperately poor turning to crime (and works best when levels are set with this understanding). Without welfare the risks of operating in a given nation increase and as such so does the barriers to investment.

It's stupid to destroy the economy and middle class for short term gains. Society advances the most when the economy is at its best, and that is when we have a strong middle class and consumer base. If you say people are less intelligent, we have to find a way to make them better.

You're saying we should deliberately sabotage society.

Pay more for policing, have outbreaks of civil unrest, have organised crime operating openly with an unlimited number of foot soldiers, runners and fall guys, a decline in investment as the risk measures for operating in your nation sharply increase, unrest in the higher levels of society as they are constantly the victims of crime and violence.

Welfare, when done properly, is the most elegant way of minimising these problems.

My brain is to full of fuck to remember what fallacy you're using dutchfag, but $15 is what the minimum wage should at if it were correctly adjusted with inflation over the years. Also the idea is to have it be close to the average cost of living, so as long as you know to live within your means and not spend extravagantly, you can live off a minimum wage job. Also it would bring employees off government support programs like food stamps. Wal mart was extremely notorious for this where because they paid the minimum wage their workers would qualify for food stamps (basically a voucher from the government to get food) and then spend them at Wal-Mart making them more money.

As for the service industry replacing their workers with touch screen and machines. At best it will only be a partial integration since people still prefer to get face-to-face service. A few years back, I believe a Chicago based super market chain called Jewel experimented with increasing the amount of self check out lines but found that customers still used the manned check out line a majority of the time.

What do you mean? Capitalism destroys the economy and middle class for short term gains?
>>
It is LITERALLY the position of the Democratic party that everyone who enters the country illegally should be allowed to stay (even if recently captured) and given $15 an hour job just like any other citizen who's been going to work for years just to reach that level.

My cousin graduated from college with an accounting degree, he makes $12 an hour. My girlfriend graduated from college with a biology degree, she makes $14.50 an hour. I went to law school and make about $25 an hour.

Burger flippers and people who operate cash registers do not deserve, nor are they entitled to more than someone who actually applied themseles in life.

WHY NOT JUST DECREASE WAGES TO $2 AN HOUR!!!?? SERIOUSLY THOUGH WHY NOT!?
>>
The reason people ask for 15 and not 30 is because they see 15 an hour as 600 a week, or 2400 a month. Sanders is proposing a 30% unavoidable tax rate on incomes over 1,000,000 a year. You all must be to young to remember prior to 1987 these people were paying upwards of 40%. Recent reports show almost 1,500 millionaires currently don't pay a dime in income taxes because of tax breaks and loop holes. Granted there are 230,000 millionaires in the US, this is still a problem seeing as the 1,500 number only includes the ones not paying anything at all, not the ones paying less then people making 7.25 an hour. With this is mind even if you had to pay 20% in taxes 2400 a month after this plan this would come out to 1920 a month. Enough for people to be able to pay their bills, and raise their families without having to decide between food or their light bill. To make an equal amount of money right now a single person paying the base tax rate needs to be making over 13.50 an hour.

There is a larger wealth gap in this country then ever, and it was not always this way. This countries elite can afford to pay back into the system they benefit from, and that's what Sanders wants. He's not aiming to raise taxes on people making 100,000 to 50%, he's aiming to raise taxes on people making 100,000,000 to 30% from the 0%-5% they pay now. Seriously read into the Panama Papers, There are much larger firms out there doing the exact same thing on much larger scales, understand these people are using the biggest consumer nation in the world, taking their money and hiding it in other countries as to not pay back into the system that makes them rich in the first place. The enemy isn't the doctor who makes 350,000 a year its the CEO who makes 350,000,000 off the lower and middle classes then refuses to pay their share, the share that everyone else manages to pay.

the economy is hardly destroyed, and technology has never been better and continues to make people's lives better

Just look at the quality of TV or smartphone someone can buy today vs. 10 years ago. That's just the most obvious example but there are hundreds of different technologies like this that lower costs and improve quality for people. That's why the left's obsession with "median wages" is bizarre. It doesn't account for the dramatic increase in the population, women entering the workforce, and the prevalene of two working parents. Overall Americans are a lot better off since Reagan/neoliberals took power back from the unions and wannabe socialists.

Why don't they just use use double the amount of water for bread dough, this way you get 2 loafs of bread out of it instead of one. Sure it would taste a little bland but that doesn't really matter when you do it with sandwhich bread dough.
If water starts becoming to expensive you can just use sea water. This way you also do something against the rising sea levels and you don't need to use salt for the dough anymore.

Free market capitalism and socialism are not two sides of the same coin; one is proven to work pretty much everywhere and the other is based on false ideology of Marxism.

We should be talking about the lack of or difficulty in getting jobs that pay more than minimum naturally. How the Clintons and the Republicans have killed manufacturing sector.

The U.S. didn't have minimum wage laws until the early 1900's and had pretty minimal state welfare programs until the 1930's. The country had it's problem, but it's not like society devolved into a Mad Max wasteland. We industrialized rapidly during that time. Charity and mutual aid societies were much more robust before they were made obsolete by Federal aid programs.

I'd agree with you if I didn't look around me and see people making good wages in various jobs; the idea that there aren't high-paying jobs out there is a joke, you just to have the drive and motivation to get one.

My brother can barely read and he makes over $60k a year because he's willing to work a somewhat hard job with cattle on a farm.
>>
>>71134641
Which is part of the lie that's been sold that 'hard and smart work will get you into a great job the wealthy' Say people get a minimum wage job and everyone tries to use it as a jumping platform to get a better one. What do you think will happen when you have all those people get said education for those good jobs? In the end either the value of those jobs get devalued (Look at how nurses are treated in the Medical industry these days because of how the market is flooded.) or you still have people unemployed. Hence, even if you do everything right, you might still be stuck with a minimum wage job. Not everything is a burger flipping job, and people don't always have access or money get an education because of how the system is designed. Again, go into a fast food restaurant and see who the majority of servers are now. Bet you're going to see a lot more middle aged women then teenagers.

>>71134834
Compare the rate of inflation to when the minimum wage was increased, there is no discernible connection between the two. And even if there was, the implantation is done in increments as opposed to just raising it to $15 overnight so if by some miracle the prices of goods universally increase, it wouldn't blind side the economy.

As stated above with his tax plans even at 20% tax on 15 an hour, you would be making 1920 a month. The average rent in America is 900 a month. The average cost of utilities is 200 a month. The average cost to feed only yourself is 300 a month. The average cost to have a vehicle, and pay for gas and insurance, not even a car payment, is 200 a month. This leaves 320 a month if you do not have a kid, do not have a cellphone, do not go out and eat, do not have a car payment, do not use a gym, do not need to buy cleaning supplies for your house, do not need to fix your car when it breaks down, do not need to buy clothes, do not need to take medicine, do not need to feed your pet. an this is the life many people live everyday. Except they simply can not make it happen, they have no chance to make it happen because they are paid 7.25 an hour until them and 30,000 of their employees get laid off, and their companies CEO gives himself a 3million dollar bonus.

In the late 1990s the U.S. reformed the Federal welfare system which reduced welfare recipients by 60%. Our minimum wage rate did not increase from 1997-2007.

During that same time, our crime rate went *down*. If welfare "bribes" and the minimum wage are the only thing keeping our society from devolving into a Mafia-dominated war zone, shouldn't crime have gone *up* while we were slashing benefits and keeping the minimum wage stagnant?

>Myth: Increasing the minimum wage will cause people to lose their jobs.

Not true: In a letter to President Obama and congressional leaders urging a minimum wage increase, more than 600 economists, including 7 Nobel Prize winners wrote, "In recent years there have been important developments in the academic literature on the effect of increases in the minimum wage on employment, with the weight of evidence now showing that increases in the minimum wage have had little or no negative effect on the employment of minimum-wage workers, even during times of weakness in the labor market. Research suggests that a minimum-wage increase could have a small stimulative effect on the economy as low-wage workers spend their additional earnings, raising demand and job growth, and providing some help on the jobs front."

>Myth: Small business owners can't afford to pay their workers more, and therefore don't support an increase in the minimum wage.

Not true: A July 2015 survey found that 3 out of 5 small business owners with employees support a gradual increase in the minimum wage to $12. The survey reports that small business owners say an increase "would immediately put more money in the pocket of low-wage workers who will then spend the money on things like housing, food, and gas. This boost in demand for goods and services will help stimulate the economy and help create opportunities."

> essentially pay off 70% of our national debt
> the rich lose 70% of their money
> pennies and nickels are phased out saving billions of dollars
> everyone feels richer due to psychological conditioning
> completely destabilize the employer's buyer's market; people pursue better jobs, wages rising becomes a norm

It doesn't make economic sense but nothing does. We already live in a socialist economy that pretends to be capitalistic. State factories or Massive corporations -- no difference. Look around and see mostly nice cars and everyone has a nice smart phone; poor or rich. Everyone is going to university.

The truth is; although we've become more cynical -- our quality of life has leveled out. More money does not improve your quality of life nearly as much as it used to. Of course, the rich will always have bigger houses, better cars, food, and sex -- but these are now only marginal improvements. Your old Honda Accord fulfills most of the daily functions of their Ferrari. Niggers and the elites alike are spending 4+ hours a day staring at their iPhone.

You guys don't like this system, that the Jews run your shit. Why not support anything that will serve to destabilize the status quo and waken up the masses. We're never going back to the simpler times of supply and demand. So, with that, support anything that serves to dismantle our current status quo. Stop being spiteful. Everything is going to be fine.

The biggest issue isn't how prices would rise because wages at the bottom would rise more than prices, the crucial question is the effect on full-time employment.

As in how many people would get laid off if companies have to pay twice as much for their low-wage workers. Go ahead and tell me making labour twice as expensive would get no one fired.

So, I looked around and the gist of it seems to be this.

1) If the minimum wage was raised controlling or adjusting for inflation, then the minimum wage should at least be $10.10. 600+ economists, including 7 or so nobel laureates support this claim.
2) Additional analyses indicate that, after controlling for worker productivity, the minimum wage should in fact be at least $21.
3) As a compromise between these two numbers, people have chosen $15.

Various cities have raised their minimum wage, and it's only benefited them (~236 cities, at least).

Mind you, I only spent about 10-15 minutes googling all of this, and you could do the same.

The minimum wage has to be low depending on the company hiring people.
If the minimum wage becomes $15, the company that might not be so well off has to FORCE their employees to work extremely hard in order for the money to go both ways. If the company has to pay more, the workers have to work harder.
The whole problem is that the company has to make a profit.

Also, if the minimum wage increases then the average cost of items will increase. Which means less people will buy those items because they became too expensive.
There's a reason why 600k easy teen jobs were lost when the congress raised the minimum wage by 10.6%.

>be surprised food is imported on a large scale

Food production would shift locally if the marked shifted significantly. Massive amounts of land in the US are committed to agri production that is inefficient or not even leading into food because of subsidies and skew from competitors overseas.

If things changed local production would adapt and take over. Costs would increase (and be less stable) but production could keep up. It is instability in food prices that lead to the subsidies in the first place, but even during the unstable periods food demand was still met.

> you live in $400 a month rent.
Impossible in many areas.
>Turn your shit off, now it's $150 a month.
Okay you saved $50 so far not $100.

>Buy the $1.00 hotdogs not the all beef jewdogs, I just saved another $100 this month.
$200 for an entire month of food is less then $2.25 a meal, do able if you eat unhealthy shit the entire time.

>Don't drive drunk, use the internet, hit a garage sale for tools instead of bar hopping. Fix the car yourself. Another $100 a month pocketed.
You're advocating that people not use insurance? Fixing your car was not the point of this line reread it. Gas and insurance.

>YOU IDIOT LARD ASS
man you sure know how to hold a intelligent debate.

>bLEACH IS A BUCK A GALLON, MIX IT WITH WATER LAZY CORP CHEM BOTTOM LINE GREASER, JUST SAVED $25 MORE THIS MONTH
What do you use for shampoo an body wash, and to clean your dishes, and to clean your clothes?

>see above
So if your tire pops, you can just fix that without buying a new tire right?

>NEEDLE AND THREAD, SALVATION ARMY SEWING MACHINE, $35 EXTRA / MONTH AGAIN
So you've never needed to buy new clothes because you can just sew together something. riiiight.

>avoiding the BAR on weekends doing car maintainence means I'm not sucking down drunks and whores germs there, or at the DOPEHEAD CONCERT
I JUST SAVED $2,000 PUNK ROCK DRUNKEN FAGGOT MEDICINE COSTS
So the only reason people need medicine is because they drink at bars and don't fix their own vehicles? Man if only all those diabetic people who rely on insulin had just crafted a new transmission out of thin air

>GO OUTSIDE AND WATCH THE BIRDS FAGGOT, ITS FREE
>LOSER, LAZY, HIPSTER, CRYBABY
got me again.

try harder.

No, it causes more problems than is solves.

There is a term called "race to the bottom" that describes the economic problem caused by separate states in America. For example there are laws protecting workers in rust belt states such as Michigan and Ohio. Health and safety laws which cost money to implement in a plant, severance pay, workers comp etc. Southern states like Texas and Tennessee promise big corporations minimum health and safety, lower pay etc and get more business on the back of workers. This strategy works, it does lead to more jobs in the south, but it also leaves workers in a perpetual cycle of poverty. We can protect workers every where equally by drawing a line in the sand and giving them all equal protection under the law.

Moreover, the counties and states with lower living wages are not that much lower $11.50 at the lowest.

Not to mention, the American people are not into nuanced arguments about politics. So you have to cast a wide net to get people's attention. 15 and done is a lot easier than "We will us a team of economist to design a plan that benefits the most people while taking into account blah blah blah".

Most Americans need arguments down to 20 words or less.....sadly.

Oh, that's an interesting prediction. Then to decrease the carbon footprint we should cut people's wages?

Have you seen how productivity is constantly on the rise? Even with technology as a factor, workers are working harder than ever and there hasn't been a meaningful increase in their labor value to compensate.

But yes, the other problem is human nature and the destructive nature of share holders to think that a company can maintain profits indefinitely as opposed to understanding there will be highs and lows where losing a battle doesn't mean the war is lost.

>There's a reason why 600k easy teen jobs were lost when the congress raised the minimum wage by 10.6%.
You mean in 2009? During the great recession when even during the recovery, there were still trade offs? Who'd have thought we'd be hemorrhaging jobs during and after a financial collapse? Also the writer doesn't cite any sources as to how the jobs were lost, or the demographics of those who lost jobs. He even spouts the same fallacy that you see the average /pol/lock shitposting here. The face he's the head of a conservative lobbyist organization, is not relevant, but interesting.

Look faggot.
Increasing the minimum wage doesn't just effect people who earn $8.50, it effects everyone who earns between $8.50-$14.99

Lets have an example shall we?
I own a business that sells Glazed McGuffins.
I have 3 employees that I pay $10 an hour.
Each McGuffin costs $1 to make and sells for $2.

Now, lets say that I sell 50 McGuffins an hour.
That's $100 in Revenue ($50 of which goes to make more McGuffins)
So, for that hour, I pay each of my workers $10 ($30 total)
So I make $20 an hour, but I have to reinvest soe of my profits back into my business so I can produce Glazed McGuffins more efficiently .

Now, lets see what happens when I increase the minimum wage, all other things equal.
I sell 50 McGuffins
$100 in Revenue (half goes to make more McGuffins)
Of the $50 remaining, each employee gets $15
Now, I the owner, make only $5 an hour.

I don't make enough to keep the place open, so I have to cut 2 employees so that I can make $15 an hour. Now, my McGuffin production is way down and I can't even sell 50 McGuffins an hour, so I have can't pay my last worker, meaning I have to fire him.

And just like that, my once thriving business is in ruins and 3 people are unemployed.

And why would people buy my price inflated Glazed McGuffins when they could buy a box from Walmart for what I originally charged?
>>
>>71139976

theres your problem
figure that out, and you might eventually "get it"
>>
>>71140197
Because Walmart has a shit image.

And if your McGuffins aren't better than those bought at Walmart, but cost more to make, then that means you're not efficient enough for the market.
>>

Our min.wage is $16. $30 is ridiculously high.
>>
>>71139976
p.s.
that whole scenario only holds true if those variables that you hold to be immutable are indeed so, which they are not
>>
>>71132851

The idea behind Capitalism is to simulate natural selection. It's a game, you know the rules, let the most intelligent/competitive people make the money and influence the masses.

Now, your position is likely that the game is rigged. Because some people start out rich; they have an unfair advantage. Yet, you know the sons of great rich men tend to be shitheads compared to their father. This is not a coincidence; a life of luxury breeds mediocrity. You as a driven man can better micro-manage and out compete the status quo; at least you used to be able to. It is your ability to start your own business that makes an industry more competitive and fair.

Now we are no longer capitalistic and the game is rigged. The elites use laws and political correctness to squash competition. Starting your own business is now very complicated and impossible in many sectors.
>>
>>71140265
Right, so those people are now unemployed because they're not productive enough to cover the minimum wage. You're basically confirming that the minimum wage has a powerful disemployment effect, thus conceding the whole argument against increasing the MW.

Indeed, most of his costs will increase, which means his scenario is even more powerful, meaning the MW has an even bigger disemployment effect than he suggests in the scenario.

If you can't make better shit than Walmart albeit for a slightly higher price, you deserve to get rekt by the free market.
>>
>>71140462
Before, they were only employed because they could collect welfare on the side. The business was propped up artificially by tax money. If that's good enough for you, grant some tax breaks or subsidies to local industries to retain the jobs. At least then we'd be honest about it.
>>
>>71140519
If we can't have any kind of side-effect of our energy production, then there will be no energy production.

Of those available, nuclear is the cleanest and most viable.
>>
I think that a $15 an hour min wage is the first step in communism. Essentially it would cause 80% of the population to be on a level playing field while increasing inflation. This means that good would become more expensive while wages would stagnate at the $15 mark. The increase in taxes would drive the government to implement for social programs and before you know it the country is tied down by modern bolshevism.

I believe the best thing we can do is apply a flat tax to all income brackets and corporations and add heavy taxes to imported goods. Individual competition is very motivating. Also, we don't need free education or subsidized education. Not every dumb ass needs a degree.

Granted, everything comes with risks, but relying on solar/renewable energy seems to be a viable strategy embraced by most people who are looking to the future. Staying on the current course seems like screwing the future generations for good.

>>71140633
Actually, before they were employed and able to live on the wage they had. Now they can't.
You've disemployed productive people and crushed a viable business. Good job, MW.

If they were on or near minimum wage in the US, rest assured, they weren't.
