He sometimes comes back for visits. He says that you can have a very good and a much more comfy life in Russia. If you have problems you solve them personally and not through a lawyer.

Only negative thing is the corruption. He has to bride nearly everyone he does buisness with. Not at a for his buisness dangerous level mind you that but netherless.

The only hope to defeat ISIS now is the Iraqi forces are on a roll, and will win a total victory after Mosul and may start pushing in from the east. Even with lucking into equipment like in Khanasser and Northern Aleppo, ISIS are losing so many fighters they will not be able to maintain their war effort for more than 2 or 3 years. I honestly am flabbergasted they still throw away so many guys in Deir Ez Zorr- they must be running quite low on ideologically driven non conscripts.

At first they wanted Assad to step down and release Saudi funded Islamists from prisons.

Latakia was won by the hezbollah and iranian mechanised infantry, palmyra by the tiger forces, russian specops and airforce, north aleppo? Tiger forces, hezbollah and russian airforce.
and while this happens the rest of the saa loses the only threatened road for supply again and again and again.

I'm kind of uneducated about syria, but I see that 90% of people on these threads prefer Assad a lot more than the FSA. My question is: Why is Assad better than the FSA?

Isn't he just your standard dynsatical opressive dictator? I know that a bunch of Free Syrians are just your standard raghead islamists, but surely they have some actual democrats between them?

I understand that the FSA winning could entail in a Lybia debaucle again, but Assad has killed thousands just to cling to power

Few. Any fractions within the FSA that's not made up by braindead jihadis is to small to matter. The bulk of their fighting force is made up by Ahrar Ash Sham, Jaish al Islam and smaller groups that openly ally with scum like Jabhat al Nusra (syrian al quaeda) and share a similar ideology.

Assad protected all syrian minorities (well, except for wahabi scum trying to topple him), while the "opposition" uses them in cages as shield against airstrikes, makes them pay extra taxes due to their religion or straight out murders them.

Assad isn't perfect, but if you have the choice between him and a future like lybia it should be clear what's better.

>but Assad has killed thousands just to cling to power
Assad has killed thousands trying to protect his government from rebellion. It's a civil war, what do you expect him to do?

!!!EVIL SYRIAN GOVERNMENT relocates internal refugees to their hometown!!!

In a continuation of the barbarity of "le regime", authorities are restoring electricity and water supplies to a town and help the locals move back in after the region stabilized.

B-B-B-BBUT MUH EBIL DICTATOR

---

Hama, SANA – Some 115 displaced families have returned to their town Hor Binafso in the southern countryside of Hama province.

Governor of Hama Ghassan Khalaf told SANA reporter that the number of those who returned today to their homes reached 500 people, including men, women and children.

Two vehicles laden with food and relief supplies and two water tankers entered the town to meet the returnees’ immediate needs, the governor noted.

He added that electricity and water network maintenance teams have already been deployed to repair and fix the damaged infrastructure and put power and water networks back into service.

Efforts will continue to ensure the return of all the locals of the town who want to go back to their homes within the framework of a local reconciliation in the area.

>Why does /sg/ generally prefer Assad as opposed to the FSA?

The biggest reason is probably that the FSA is seen as an American proxy army rather than a legitimate rebel force. They fight with weapons and training provided by the CIA. If not for that they wouldn't even exist. There is also a great deal of skepticism to the claims that they are not jihadists. If they succeeded in taking over Syria, would they actually want democracy or would the prefer an Islamic government? Assad is Muslim but he's reasonable to non-Muslim minority groups in Syria. The Syrian Arab Army is the only major actor in the Syrian War that has Christians in the leadership (other than the Russian Air Force), and many Christians in Syria are die-hard Assad supporters simply because they're afraid of getting massacred if he gets deposed.

That's basically it.

It's much deeper than that. Assad personally funded the IRA, Symbionese Liberation Army, and the Charles Manson cult. He was the one who shot the Archduke and started WW1. As well because they are way overstretched. YPG has a ton of manpower in comparison as they stay out of the fighting until IS is very weak and out of supplies. Look at pictures of Sinjar for example after they retook it.

Why does /pol/ support Assad? He is terrorist like ISIS and murderous like Saddam.

The only group worthy of support in syria is the FSA, they are the only democratic force.

Is there any chance of a heavier Russian intervention? The war seems to be destined to a muc longer stalemate if not

>>71129235
>>71129257
Yeah, but then America will have a strong, unified Syria pitting against Israel when the war ends.
Don't get me wrong, I like Trump, but I don't think he'll stop American involvement in the war
The US has only to gain when keeping Syria in the shitter

palmyra is not a huge town, it was more of a symbolic victory.
the only front that progressed as it should was latakia, until they took kinsabba. then the russians "withdrew" and now its going slow as shit there too.
>>
>>71129013
This. Im decidedly pro-Putin and pro-Assad in this conflict, but holy fuck I would NOT want to live in Russia.

Just because I support Putin's Russia's role as geopolitical counterweight to western/Gulf hegemony doesnt mean I like his internal politics.

>>71129229
Well they lost some shitty towns east of the road and desu losing that equipment was very fucked up. But yeah, the Aleppo road is secure and so is Khanasser.

>>71129419
Please tell me which groups of the FSA you support, thanks. I'll be waiting. Try not to include groups that work together with Al-Nusra (Al Qaeda).

Also youre of course allowed not to like Assad but calling him a "terrorist" is completely retarded. Just today Syrian government is fixing up towns and moving back residents in south Hama after the area has stabilized. Inform yourself.

>Is there any chance of a heavier Russian intervention?

Syria is an important location for the Russians. It contains military installations that they can't afford to lose. (Which is exactly why the CIA wants to take it from them so bad) If the situation gets bad enough they'll be forced to take more aggressive measures.

YPG honestly sucks, especially because they have little heavy equipment. Doesn't Afrin only have like three tanks at this point? They fought some tough battles when ISIS had them on the ropes at Kobane but they haven't done squat since Tishrin dam except wave their fists at Turkey.

Pound per pound ISIS definitely had the best fighters, but most are dead now. They're essentially a zombie Bedouin conscript force, but still quite scary. Nusra are also obviously the best rebels, everyone else is absurdly bad.

The NDF has had some great moments of glory but they slack off and are responsible for most of the government losses in recent times. Their most important role is psychological, they are the thugish gangstas who will torture any rats they find.

Glad to see the Tiger Forces are still a major player, the Iraqi special forces were decimated in the early days and haven't recovered. What happened to the Cheetah Forces? Also it seems the SSNP and the Syrian Resistance have not been as integral as they were in late 2015/early this year. The Syrian Resistance seems to just play defence at Latakia.
