"Divine blood" was more of an ex post facto explanation for achievement than a merit in itself. Catholic Christianity on the other hand was built upon the "divine right of kings" and was much more hierarchal. No matter what you accomplished in life as a Catholic you could never be noble unless you were born of noble blood, not without a great deal of resistance anyway.
