After hearing all this talk about the economy collapsing I have a question to ask.
Should I buy some bullion or a gun?
i also am curious. i think protection would be more suitable. make sure you know how to use it and what not

You can conveniently carry a handgun without it being SHTF. You also have the advantage of concealing it (with a permit or otherwise). Not so much with a rifle or shotgun.
For HD, a long gun is more suitable, but for general application in a wide variety of foreseeable situations, stick with the handgun. Or even better, get both.

Hand gun is concealable for day to day carry. I would personally recommend the CZ P01 in you OP. I've carried that gun for about 2 years now and it's great. Never had any failures at the range and it's possibly the most accurate compact I've ever shot. Get it in 9mm, and it'll run you about 550-600 new.

Also, don't fall for the caliber wars in handguns. 9mm, 40 and 45acp all perform nearly the same with hollow points, often times with 9mm having slightly better KE transfer (remember kids, velocity increases kinetic energy exponentially where as mass only does linearly). 9mm also has the benefit of higher capacity and cheaper ammo.

Buy a pistol OP. Or a carbine. $700 can get you either an FNX or a combat grade AR with iron sights (ie, decent parts but no freefloated barrel or Timney trigger etc).
I have both, among other firearms both new and old, but I would be hard pressed to get rid of either of those. Cold day in hell fampai.
Heres the thing with gold. Precious metals will only establish as a trade unit post-collapse after things start to restabilize. Skills and labor will be traded directly both long before and long after that point. If anything buy a few ounces of silver; it tends to follow gold procing as an investment, but the per-unit cost is lower. Better to have smaller units of currency than one big one.
But acquire a couple of weapons with ammo and train on them, stock up some food (at least 3 months worth) and develop a few useful skills before anything else. Making tool handles, tanning hides, food systems..
All useful. So is being able to maintain small engines or do simple wiring.

Probably not. If they had to they could get the records of who sold the gun but not who you are. They would have to go to the point of sale and ask the people working at the FFL if they remember you. The only way they could have probable cause to request a warrant for those records is if the person at the gun store can recognize you from your gun purchase.

Pistols are not difficult to shoot, but take practice to shoot well. Get at least some basic instruction, and practice at a local range.
The biggest problem whith pistols is that people tend to shoot when the target is too far away, or don't go for it until it is too close and it's too late.

Hipoint's a shit, but after you cycle 200 rounds through it it'll be fine and a good backup weapon.
Getting a silenced 22LR cz452 is the best option, put 1000 rounds through it until you are comfortable hitting a target at 100 yards. It won't be completely silent, but it will give you a chance to hunt for your food without scaring every living thing in a 3mile radius.

In a home, shotgun. Obviously OP isn't going to pack a shotgun in the waist, although it would be funny. Point a shotgun at the bedroom door and wait for the handle to jiggle, no more problems.
