Theories as to why global warming is made up:

1. To use the UN to force China to comply and spend money to upgrade manufacturing processes or risk embargo and losing out on American consumers

2. At one point scientists thought the heating trend was actually manmade and therefore reversible so the government decided to issue mandates to prevent the melting of the ice caps thus ensuring (or so they thought) Russia would not expand militarily into the Arctic's uninhabitable conditions.

Do you understand what climate change means? It means that the current models no longer apply because the CLIMATE is CHANGING.

Earth is getting warmer as a whole, new atmospheric currents are formed meaning places that wouldn't get snow in March, get it, and places that didn't have 50 degree summers now get those too.

You're speaking about solar power and wind power mostly, right?

You know while I don't oppose these or anything, I don't know why people insist on switching to them like they're the obvious good end-all thing.
Here's a thing to think about: What happens to the local wildlife, especially plantlife, if you start increasing the wind resistance of a big area 1000fold? What happens on a bigger, meteological scale with the wind if you do this?
What happens if you start covering big strips of land with solar panels? Don't solar panels detoriate? Don't you make them using oil, too?
Or even obscure things that I personally can't even think of right now.

While they probably have potential, I hate how there's no research being done on this shit at all. There's lots of concerns.

I mean, nobody really spent much thought on pollution when we introduced steam/coal-powered stuff. Why don't we research this shit more?

The ice caps have actually been at their highest point in over 30 years. They haven't been melting but actually growing. Good job. Could it possibly that there are other factors involved that are greater than our own? Earth axis tilt? Temperature of the nuclear fusion ball that we orbit? No one knows!
>>
>>70431175

We're not talking about whether climate change is good or bad. I also don't have any problem with the sea-levels rising and wiping out shitholes like Bangladesh.

We're talking about whether it's a myth or not, and Earth is most definitely getting warmer and posting pics of "omg snow in April" doesn't change that.

>>70431217
Not sure why are you even in this thread Austria
Your cucked country is shitting its pants when it sees anything related to nuclear
You are part of the problem
>>
>>70431056
The problem is water vapor is many times better at it, and co2 is less than 0.4% of the atmosphere, it was around 20x higher in the cretaceous period. The earth's climate is incredible complex, you can never look at an aspect in isolation, so you end up making a great deal of assumptions, the more you assume the less reliable your hypothesis becomes.

>>70430978
Humanity as a whole (not the niggers) could probably easily survive an ice age with current technology and with how slowly these things happen.
I don't know why the earth getting warmer (maybe just temporarily) and waterlevel rising a bit is a big deal.
If shit came to fuck, it'd come to fuck very slowly. So slowly for us to adjust. I mean I'm pretty sure at this point we could survive all landmasses on earth being covered in water if we have some time to prepare our floating farms and bring some seeds.

>>
>>70427740
you retards realize that global warming ultimately leads to an ice age right? its basic thermodynamics. the warming melts many ice caps and fresh water zones and causes the run down to run straight to the ocean. this usually disrupts the current of the warm water and brings the surface temperature of oceans down at an average over the years.

global warming is not a myth; its immensely overexaggerated, yes. but it is not completely untrue.

the only reason why it suddenly became over exaggerated is that many manufacturers and companies realized that people do like going green, at least on the surface, but not actually being proactive about preserving the environment.

if you really think global warming is a myth, you went too far with the anti-semitism and actually allowed the jews to trick you into thinking gw is a myth by reverse psychology.

The earth's climate varies due to solar variation in the short term, and the earth's axial tilt cycle in the long term.
Humans have no effect on climate. Carbon dioxide affects plant growth, not climate. There is no 'greenhouse effect.' That was an incorrect hypothesis that has long since been discredited by real-world data.
Anthropogenic global warming is a psuedoscientific mythology promoted by Marxists for solely political reasons. It's modern-day Lysenkoism.
>>
Global warming is bullshit, but not because it snows.
It's just so obviously bullshit.
The global temperature isn't raising, the polar caps aren't melting and the water level isn't raising. Releasing more CO2 in the atmosphere is actually a good thing because the CO2 levels are too low right now.

Less things are being invented now just old technologies improved on but the population are tired of just updating what they have at home for fashion purposes. So the socialists invented a scare. Carbon credits are transparently IMF / World Bank schemes that benefit banksters though.

I like the idea of using a net energy perspective to decide what form of electricity generation we use.

I don't have the numbers, but I get a feeling that most renewable energy sources are a net energy loss. the mining, manufacturing, and transportation cost of a windmill or solar panel array is probably a negative unless they are used over a long period of time.

every time a person. has to drive to the site and repair anything, or they are damaged in a storm, the period of time a renewable energy source must operate to become a net positive is increased.

any other perspective on the matter is rather short sighted and ignorant to the larger ramifications

Peak fossil fuels and EROEI is certainly what people should be taking about, not computer simulations by global governance entities and their prophecies of an End of Days climate scenarios because that's nothing but a new age religion to justify a new age global taxation system. Reality is scary enough, no need for a new age hydro carbon Inquisition, the church can go fuck itself for all I'm concerned. They scare children and accomplish nothing except enrich their coffers and power base. Besides, the only real problem is overpopulation, the solution is not to lower standards of living in the west to make more people in the east, or God forbid make more equatorial apes.

In fact just let natural depletion of fossil fuels happen unencumbered by global governments and their tax grabs until EROEI goes negative, and let mother nature fix the excess human problem naturally.

please take a moment to ignore the political aspect of the issue and look into the periodic ice ages that occur every 12k years or so. look at estimated oxygen and CO2 levels over long periods of time. look at sea levels over long periods of time.

I accept thst industrialization has pumped more CO2 and methane into the atmosphere that would exist independent of humanity. Can you accept that there are larger forces in play than just CO2 levels?

we could have a real discussion if you take a moment to consider what I am suggesting, and I will be happy to listen to what you have to say as well
>>
>>70439497
Excellent work Cletus, you've grasped half of the problem. Now let's work on the other half.

Burning fossil fuels increases carbon in the atmosphere. Increased carbon in the atmosphere traps heat. Trapped heat increases the temperature. Increased temperatures cause changes in the weather patterns.

With me so far?

Now, consider that humans are burning fossil fuels at a rate that has never before occurred on the planet. Got that?

Now, understand that the temperature of the planet as a whole has been steadily rising exactly parallel to the increase in fossil fuel use.

Now, tell me, do the two correlate? And if not, what accounts for the increase in temperature? If you are going to claim that the earth just naturally does this, can you explain why the massive amounts of carbon in the atmosphere has zero effect on the temperature of the earth? Can you explain how that is possible given our understanding of atmospheric science?
>>
>>70427740
GLOBAL warming doesn't mean UNIFORM warming, it means the average temperature is rising, it also means that the climate has more energy/entropy and therefore is more prone to extreme weather, even extreme cold weather.

Yeah, I do realise that you guys are scientifically illiterate and see science as another branch of politics/culture war
>>
>>70439616

it is an inevitable trend. the only argument for solar and wind are thst when the hydrocarbon economy fails , people with alternative sources of electricity are well positioned in the short term to keep a higher standard of living. still a grim future
>>
>>70439956
But the temperature of the planet hasn't been rising proportionally to the rate of fossil fuel use. You're assuming what you intend to conclude.
>>
>>70440182
Except it has. Here's the first graph demonstrating the increase in fossil fuel consumption

>>
>>70439956

you seem to be making assumption based on opinions, not facts. maybe instead of basing your opinion off of what you saw on facebook, you could perhaps read up on weather throughout history and see for yourself how wrong you are. but then again, 97% of scientists agree that climate change exists and is caused by humans and humans alone. the same 97% of scientists that agreed that we wouldn't have any oil by 2006....

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
>>
>>70440182
correlation vs causation

but I will of course agree we are creating a minor greenhouse gas event, but it is questionable if it will actually have a larger effect than solar output , axial tilt, or the repeated cycles of max heating~>max cooling that have always occured

I gave up on these "theories" when I walked into one class period in high school and the teacher said "Scientists recently found that the ice caps are melting faster than ever" and I walked into another class period the same fucking week and the teacher said "Scientist recently found that they're getting larger, if anything" so people can just quote these experiments that had different results whenever it pushes what they personally believe, or just make the experiments up themselves. Neither one of them were even my science teacher.

Also around that time, I got home from school and watched CNN and they actually had a "breaking news" thing that said that they've reduced that month at an alarming rate and that basically, we're all fucked. That was eight years ago now, have yet to be fucked, and I'm sitting here with the windows open in April in Florida when I'd normally be blasting the A/C.
>>
>>70440917
How many more people are on earth since 1990? How much more plant life? Animals? What about Earths distance from the sun and location in orbit? What about plate tectonics or geothermal activity? I can go on and on with things that are different now than they were in the 1990s, and all have varying effects on the climate. Why are you sooooo certain it's Carbon Dioxide?

Using alarmist apocalyptic prophecy to try to push an idea is not the way to gain compliance. It makes people distrust you and everything you have to say, especially when not only is the evidence contrary to the predictions, but you've been caught red handed manipulating data to get a prediction you like.

Yes, pollution sucks and we should do everything we can to reduce it but you don't need to claim the sky is falling when you can much more easily and concretely point to Shanghai and Beijing as the results of out of control pollution.

AND carbon emissions are not pollution, they have, in fact increased exponentially the plant production globally. Trying to convince people that the building block of life is harmful to life is painfully anti-science and anyone who attempts that should not call themselves a scientist.
>>
>>70441087
>it's cold in Florida right now
>globe ain't gettin warmer, dumasses

You're showing us that you literally don't understand the concept of global warming itself. It's not about hot temperatures everywhere all at once, it's about a destabilization of weather patterns.
>>
>>70441267
I'm not saying carbon dioxide is solely responsible for global warming, nowhere in this thread have I claimed that. However, the rapid increase in fossil fuel consumption is certainly a large contributing factor.

Also, just so you don't embarrass yourself in the future, you shouldn't try to claim that the Earth's distance from the sun or its orbit has changed in any significant way since 1990.
>>
Isn't this more to do with climate change?

Like shifting weather patterns?

I don't know about other parts of the world but this winter was green as fuck
>>
>>70441597
now it's destabilization of weather patterns....

>>
>>70441597
At its inception, it was about the entire world getting hotter (runaway temperature increase). Only once the evidence directly contradicted this prediction did the narrative change to what you claim. Some of us are old enough to remember doomsayers proclaiming at climate summits that "our children won't know what snow is". And my parents are old enough to remember when global cooling was sending us into another ice age. On top of that, the people who posited the claim you're making said it would result in " crazy weather patterns and more destructive storms" and that's not happening either. It's alarmism, pure and simple.
>>
>>70439243

>>
>>70441884
It has always and forever been a destabilization of weather patterns which is fueled by the general warming of globe.

Can you please provide me with one shred of evidence that the Earth has shifted in its orbit? Where are you pulling that from? Obviously if it had occurred massive changes would come as a result, but it hasn't happened.

Yeah, CO2 is steroids for trees. Back in the Cretaceous (iirc) CO2 concentration was much higher, and the whole world was covered in forests. But there are other ramifications. See the accidification of the seas

>how do you explain the rising sea level? how do you explain the ice in the poles melting?

Sea levels are not rising
Poles are not melting

>unless we switch to clean energy.

Which will kill billions of people

The Unites States and Europe can deindustrialize and go back to the stone age and it won't do fucking shit to stop global warming at all

You have to have global power to control the global climate in every country, which means authoritarian global rule

Hmm how long have the records been kept?

I do agree with you though. Necessity is the mother of all invention.
I'd rather be self sufficient. Also it is 2016 and we are still using animal juice

Time for the water engine!

>Well its undeniable that we got a Climate change or Global Warming. But I still dont believe its man-made. Thats just a theorie from science to try to explain it.

Where do we have climate change? give me an example please.

This is a good point BuT we can control the tree growth by cutting Hr'm down ehereas then nothing could
>>

Of course we're not the sole reason but our influence on the climate is the biggest it has ever been and increasing, we're using so many resources that we're running out and we're polluting the world at record rates. If we don't start using renewables and caring more for the planet now we won't have any energy sources, clean oceans or healthy flora and fauna.

an oppressive rule will only emerge if people act like retards

that's why we need to collectively become more eco-friendly, and that way the change will be gradual and nobody will need a tyrant to tell them to recycle

It won't kill billions dipshit, I advocate for green industry, not no industry.

It also won't take a global power, at this point when /pol/ and the Republican climate denial retards are inevitably proven wrong in 50 years when shit starts going underwater, the necessity will force change.

It's not uncontroleed tree growth that bothers us. That could be one good thing, we could reclaim desertified regions. But the acidification of oceans...
