At this point, yes. The rebels in southern Aleppo province and, quite possibly, idlib province will have to face an oncoming army of SAA and ndf. The only thing the ceasefire did is allow the SAA to consolidate some territory against Isis along with set up a a few agreements that might be implemented.

Syria will be rebuilding for the next 15 years if not more. They will take all the sources of foreign currency they can get.

You might want want to stick to Latakia or Damascus but a few years after the war is over they will want as much tourists as they can get and the exchange rate between the USD and Syrian Pound will even then allow you to eat and stay there super cheaply. If you are pro-Assad and can talk about how you followed their progress during the war and cheered them on it will make you more welcomed. Many educated Syrians speak English so its not improbable you might meet some QTs if you traveled there who speak English well enough to flirt.

>>
>>70326127
Wasn't talking about secession
The cordon sanitaire is a political muzzle created in the early 90's when VB got over 20% (called 'Black sunday' in Belgian media ever since), it basically means no political party would ever form a coalition with them and they're barely mentioned in the media.

This means unless they get 50.1% they'll never be a ruling party

>>
>>70323339
Sorry for copy pasting but it was right at the end of the thread when I posted it.

Lets be honest here, if every 'great' version of every country came true there would be overlap everywhere, all land disputes are much more complex than irredentists make it out to be.

We have however learned one thing, the mass resettlement of people from one region to another region has never worked out well.

Just look at the refugee crises these days, look at the Israelis and Palestinians, it never works.

Sometimes it's best to leave things as they are for the sake of stability and for the sake of avoiding conflict.

A shooting at a US Air Force base in Texas has left at least two people dead, police say.
Bexar County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland around 09:00 local time, a spokesman said.
The base is the home of the US Air Force's basic training programme.
The Sheriff's office said they believe it is a murder-suicide but are searching a building on the base to confirm.

Btw it was the same with the FPÖ in Austria, now they are at 35%.
The socialist won't form a government again in the near future and the "conservatives" were like Merkel one year ago, but their actions are like a FPÖ light since the are losing too many voters (closing borders, working with Balkans). Another Perk is they will lose voters to the right and the left, their basically destroying themselves.
Their next government will have a FPÖ chancellor.
It's not about ideology for this parties.
They just want to secure their power and the free money for doing literally nothing.
It looks like their is a change in Netherlands and one day in Germany too, I hope.

Reminder that Francken (N-VA) promised to process as many refugees as possible as soon as Merckel opened the floodgates.
Which in the case of Belgium was about 80 per day.

N-VA is also in large part responsible for the fact that around 600 million Euros were instantly freed up to allow as many refugees as possible into Belgium.
Even though Belgium has been suffering from massive budget deficits for a while now.

http://news.antiwar.com/2016/04/07/diplomats-us-russia-writing-new-syrian-constitution/

>According to diplomats familiar with the situation, US and Russian officials have begun the process of writing the new constitution for Syria, with officials saying they want the framework in place by August.

>The US is continuing to take the position that the constitution needs to restrict certain Syrian officials, including President Assad, from ever participating in elections again.

>Russia, by contrast, has insisted that the free elections in Syria should be open to all, and that the future government of Syria should be up to Syrians.

>The US is also pushing hard for a heavily centralized state dominated by a handful of leaders, while Russia has been more supportive of a federal Syria, with considerable autonomy for several regions, particularly Syrian Kurdistan.

This is interesting. You would think that the US would push for decentralization because it would weaken the control of Assad's government. Since the US is pushing for centralization though it seems that they think they will be able to force Assad to step down and prevent him from running for reelection. They probably hope they can somehow get a Sunni pro-Saudi/Turkey individual elected which explains why the US would want a centralized state where that government would hold a lot of power.

Since Russia is pushing for decentralization though its seems they think Assad and his crew remaining in power is not a certainty regardless of Russia support and might be hoping for a decentralized state to maybe prevent the new government from becoming a solid ally of Turkey/Saudi/etc.

Interesting. The political autonomy for the kurds will not occur; at most, we will witness ethnic autonomy for all races - which will include Assyrians, Circassians, Turkmen, Armenians, and various other minorities. There will probably be a greater expansion in terms of social and economic rights for the people, which would include speech and various other rights. Until then, we will need to see what the new Constitution will be and how well it withstands scrutiny.

No, my guess is we'll force the war to go on by arming FSA and SDF rebels (possibly push the SDF and SAA to war) and use the Kurds as begrudging proxy fighters. If all of Syria is burnt to the ground for it, that's fine with the DC Cartel. From a Machiavellian standpoint, better Syria as a pile of rubble than a Russian/Iranian ally.

Nope. Kurdish nationalism has been suppressed fairly effectively in Iran, but them gaining autonomy elsewhere risks sparking the flare of pan-Kurdish nationalism. No one benefits from the Kurds existing and no one ever has, which is why they've been brutally subjugated for the past millennium.

Obviously I'm talking hypotheticals here. ISIS losing to Assad is a matter of when, not if. Then what to do with the new Kurdish pseudo-state in Rojava becomes a major issue for Assad. So far Assad seems to just give non-answers like that he'll address the concerns after the war. It's unclear how it'll play out. Kurds being armed and backed by America against Damascus is a very real possibility.

Probably a smart move. ISIS was stupid to be so hostile to the FSA in the first place. The fractured FSA will fall to ISIS if ISIS ever properly takes over Syria.

Russia and Iran are not super attached to Assad himself but you also have to take into account that Russia and Iran understand that when they allow the US etc to dictate who is barred from running they set a precedent for the US interfering in Syrian affairs and Syrian politics.

If they let the US bar Assad and similarly-minded people from the current government from running they know that in the future the US will try to get away with whatever it can in Syria and that depending on the next president the US will try to use all sorts of tricks and tactics to prevent a new government from forming that is too pro-Iran/Russia and that the US will do whatever it can to get the Qatari pipeline built.

If the US is faced with the choice that the only way to stop Assad from being reelected is to invade or bomb Damascus with US troops/planes then the US will likely concede that he can run for reelection and at that point they won't be able to do as much to influence/subvert the Syrian government.

Iran is attached to Assad and backs him but they are also aware that as a plan B there will always be some SAA figure or someone in the current Syrian government who can take his place and still be pro-Iran. Obviously they would prefer Assad to remain in power but for both Russia and Iran its not the end of the world if for whatever reason Assad can't stay, there are ways they can salvage the situation. With that being said though of course they will do as much as possible short of WWIII to keep Assad in power or eligible for reelection.
