He had legal custody of the children in Australia, but if he had stuck around and tried to divorce her there, she *would* have gotten custody. Because vagina. He had no chance.
He did the smart thing and took them back to Grandma while he could. That was perfectly legal under Australian law, and now they are in Lebanon, and Australia no longer has any jurisdiction to alter custody.
