And boy is it something else. The guy has no fucking clue what he's talking about whatsoever.

http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/transcript-bernie-sanders-meets-news-editorial-board-article-1.2588306

>Daily News: I'm only pressing because you've made it such a central part of your campaign. And I wanted to know what the mechanism would be to accomplish it.

>Sanders: Let me be very clear about this. Alright? Let me repeat what I have said. Maybe you've got a quote there. I do believe that, to a significant degree, the business model of Wall Street is fraud. And you asked me, you started this discussion off appropriately enough about when I talk about morality. When I talk about it, that's what I think. I think when you have the most powerful financial institutions in this country, whose assets are equivalent to 58% of the GDP of this country, who day after day engage in fraudulent activity, that sets a tone. That sets a tone for some 10-year-old kid in this country who says, "Look, these people are getting away from it. They're lying. They're cheating. Why can't I do that?"

>Daily News: What kind of fraudulent activity are you referring to when you say that?

>Sanders: What kind of fraudulent activity? Fraudulent activity that brought this country into the worst economic decline in its history by selling packages of fraudulent, fraudulent, worthless subprime mortgages. How's that for a start? Selling products to people who you knew could not repay them. Lying to people without allowing them to know that in a year, their interest rates would be off the charts. They would not repay that. Bundling these things. Putting them into packages with good mortgages. That's fraudulent activity.

THE BANKS COMMITTED FRAUD! THEY LIED! SPECIFIC EXAMPLES?! I JUST TOLD YOU THEY COMMITTED FRAUD!

The words of a genius socialist.

Nah, Trump speaks in generalities on the pulpit but has actual plans on his website or that he releases to the media. The wall thing, for example: Mexico pays for part of the wall or money transfer to Mexico from Mexican immigrants is cut off and that'd hurt them considering that's a loss of $25 billion.

That's miles above Bernie's "I'll break up JP Morgan but then I dunno what happens after that, let the executives decide I ain't no executive" shit.
>>
>>70163855
Cut him some slack, he is a senile old man. I'm pretty sure he forgets hes running for president some days.

>>
This is my friends biggest argument for supporting Bernie. He says that the banks/wallstreet fucked up the economy and Bernie wants to hold them accountable or whatever.

I don't know much about these things, and neither does he and I know he's just parroting things he's heard online so I just left the topic alone.

>In Vermont, the socialists’ speaker said his answer was no. The purest socialist in mainstream American politics was no longer pure enough.
That sums up leftists so well. They're so obsessed with ideological purity that nothing is ever good enough, they must always be going further left. I'm sure there are lefties who consider Mao to not be leftist enough.
>>
>>70164101
Trump has an exact plan for every one of his goals.
>>

>>
>>70164623
I can't say what they have and haven't done that's fraud or specifically ruined this country. But when you make a large part of your platform for president as "punish Wall Street" and you can't give examples of what they did beyond "bad loans" that were not actually illegal and not fraud, then you're a fucking idiot and nobody should take you seriously.

I might not know but I'm also not campaigning for President on an anti-Wall Street platform.

I agree but this is the same argument I can apply to pretty much every single front-runner candidate. All of them have said irredeemably stupid shit that should really put them out of the running but hasn't for whatever reason, this includes Hillary (particularly Hillary), Bernie, and Trump.

It's difficult to argue for any of these candidates to become president. At this point the choice really comes down to either voting for a quality candidate or voting Trump just to avoid the rampant racist, sexist, communist bullshit that the left is currently forcing on everyone.

Reminder that first-time voters want Sanders - NOT Trump or hillary.

http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/gen-z-bernie-sanders-answers-the-how-policy-making

>The Iowa caucuses tonight will turn on a number of factors: Will the unseasonably warm weather hold up? Which campaigns have the strongest ground game? And will turnout be closer to the lackluster result in 2004 or the record finish in 2008? For Bernie Sanders, it could also come down to whether his supporters, particularly his disproportionately young fans, turn out.

>“Well, everyone talks about the younger voter,” said David Stillman, a researcher who launched a national research project this year with his son Jonah studying young Americans, including their priorities in the coming elections.

>“Everyone just assumes they’re millennials. What we’ve uncovered is there is a whole new generation that started in 1995 – Gen Z, so the leading age is 21 … [who are] voting for the first time. So Jonah and I came down to Iowa to see what’s on their mind. What are they thinking about when it comes to politics?”

Is it greedy to loan to someone you know can't pay it back?

That's the opposite of greed. That's generosity.

The truth of the matter is, they were forced to loan to those low income people by the government. It all started under Clinton, the Community Reinvestment Act.

http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2015/06/08/they-put-a-face-on-the-90s-homeownership-push-then-they-lost-their-home/

because since clinton presidents have pushed for people to get houses.this lead to the financial markets being politically pressured to create ways to offer home loans to people that never would have qualified for a normal home loan, hence the idea of subprime loans. the increased risk of these loans was covered by bundling the risk into a security and sold to investors at various levels of risk.

there was a conflict of interest between banks and securities raters that led them to be rated higher than they should have been, and as one would have expected, the people who shouldn't have gotten a loan failed to be able to pay back the loans they were given.

tl;dr: government meddeling leads to inefficiencies in market

Because those loans were targetted mostly at blacks (after the federal government produced laws and books targetted at banks saying "you need to lend more to blacks otherwise you're racist; DIVERSITY").

Now blacks make up the highest percentage of those in poverty (close to 28%, around 3x higher than whites) but dammit dey gots to have dey homes n shiiieeet so to comply with federal pressure banks began giving out subprime mortgages targetted towards blacks that couldn't pay them. Of course this was likely the plan the entire time since the modus operandi of the Democratic Party for 50 years has been to hold down blacks, keep them in poverty and keep them in an ignorant, childish state therefore they'll be totally dependent on Big Daddy (D) to provide and look out for them i.e. the (supposed) LBJ quote about how he'll have them niggers voting Democratic for the next 200 years.

>They would not repay that. Bundling these things. Putting them into packages with good mortgages. That's fraudulent activity.

That was exactly the plan championed by dozens of Congresses through Fannie, Freddie, and other schemes.

Of course a poor family can't make the balloon payment. The point was to let them accrue equity in the home from rising home values. They enter a mortgage with something absurd like 1%-3% equity, pay a teaser rate, refi before the balloon, and if the home value increased as planned suddenly they have not-absurd 10% equity.

That was the subprime play, endorsed by republicans and democrats for decades, with a clear goal of making poor (often minority) families into homeowners.

Went great until prices stalled. Then no one could refi. Then all these low income borrowers had to make payments on floating rates they couldn't imagine. So they default. Enough defaults, the pools of mortgages start to look really risky...
>>
>>70164320
That was a sad article
>>
>>70164623
the crisis was also the fault of the government/regulators/federal reserve as well.

The government pushed people into owning homes, and got lending standards lowered. Banks obviously took advantage of this.

The federal reserve had a chance to deflate the housing bubble before it got too huge, but they didn't until it was too late. They raised interest rates and by 2007/8 things were fucked.

The regulators were also failures in that rated whatever new financial assets the banks made as triple A. Partly because the assets were way too complicated and opaque for them to understand them, and B because it was profitable for them to just rubber stamp everything.

Certainly, banks were part of the problem, but the problem is far worse than just that.

Another criticism of Bernie's crutching on breaking up the big banks is that the game has changed a bit. Algorithmic trading platforms are arguably a bigger threat to the system, but this old fuck probably has no idea of that at all.

They would just change the channel and assume it's just yet another full of shit politician who's all talk, no action. Trump knows exactly how to get through all the bullshit and make sure his messages reaches the people who tuned out of the political system a long time ago because they recognized that it was all a bunch of corrupt bullshit.

He's not wrong, but the "evil banks" had a slightly different perspective in the mid 2000s. Most economists had surmised at this point that the housing bubble would burst, but there was just so much wealth to get in on it's tough to NOT create these types of asset-backed securities. Sure, it's easy to call these people greedy, and they are, but at the time it was also genius financial innovation and some uncharted waters. Then of course retroactively it seems so obvious that this was a bad idea.

That being said, companies like AIG and Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns really should have known better than to leverage themselves so much.
>>
>>70186248
They did it because they knew the government would bail them out, which means there was literally no risk to themselves whatsoever, and therefore no reason not to do it other than morality (and turns out, not a lot of bankers have that in abundance).
>>
>>70186550

This seems as good a place as any. I live almost exactly between the bernie rally in philly and the trump rally on long island. My wife asked me to go to the bernie rally and I said yes. And then within an hour I saw the long island rally posted. All I could think was damnit you democrats and your dirty tricks. However long island is a real bitch to get to if you are not in NYC so took wife to philly.

Arrived at like 5:30pm to the sight of one of the most epic lines I've ever seen. I couldn't figure it out because I've seen the rolling stones, prince, Bruce Springsteen. all of them with shorter lines. Only one entrance open and the side doors were closed. People smoking weed, weird colored hair, a good portion of kids but still a very young crowd overall. Honestly he should charge a few bucks to get in just to get rid of some of the homeless looking people. I would have gladly paid $5-20 to get rid of some of the crazy. A big ass bus of blacks for bernie. Actually pretty clever because I didn't see any black lives matter people. And I think the north probably has some more sensible black voters who dont just blindly follow hillary. The line was so long I convinced my wife to eat at a Korean restaurant and maybe after the rally started we could still walk in because it was cold and the line was moving at a snails pace and very long. Well after 8pm its started moving very fast and they let us into an overflow. Bernie gave normal speech. Some of the people were a littly too excited over things like a womans right to her body. Some stereotypical fans that almost made you laugh. Some guy with a giant bernie head tried to walk out on the floor and secret service stopped him and bernie said let him through. They patted him down and bernie kept saying thats weird.

Trump gets way bigger crowds. Most of his rallies have gotten like 10-30 thousand people to show up. Though lately he's been booking smaller venues with just a few thousand in order to make it easier to run security screenings and keep agitators out. If you want to even make it inside you'll have to get there super early, they always have to turn away thousands of people who can't fit (even back when he was doing much larger venues).
>>
>>70186962

>>
>>70187575
oh that was the part I forgot to mention. they put us in an overflow room and we got like a condensed version of the speech before the main speech. So he addressed the overflow crowded as well as the main crowd. Which was pretty clever because it was probably delivered to the casual fans who were at the back of the line and we got out of there before probably like the 10 thousand people in the main venue. It was an ideal situation for me and a pretty shrewd move to not actually turn away any people. But I enjoyed seeing the secret service up close. Too many people eatting that shit up about 15 dollars an hour working fastfood. These tards dont know that robots will make there fastfood long before people will make $15 an hour at fastfood. anyway trump should figure out a way to address the people that get turned away.

Uhh, he's basically right? That is how the SMC happened. The banks took incredibly amazingly shitty loans that were virtually guaranteed to fail and "repackaged" them several times over until no one knew what was inside them and then passed them off as far more secure than they actually were. Sometimes they would go on to sell these worthless, over-valued packages twice; once "betting" for them and once "betting" against them (to put it in layman's terms, anyway).

It's basically impossible for any of the higher-level executives - who had the big picture view and knew what was going on in their companies - to genuinely believe that what they were doing was long-term sustainable. It was impossible for them to not know that their house of cards was going to come crashing down eventually. And to continue on as they were doing, knowing that their collapse was imminent and banking on taxpayers to bail them out, is by any sane definition fraudulent. Our justice department chose not to pursue a criminal trial because politicians and bank executives are drinking buddies, not because these people were innocent of all wrong doing.

Honestly, who the fuck defends banks? How much of a brainwashed cocksucker are you? If Bernie told you grass was green, would you start shouting about how botany is socialist propaganda? I don't get it. Everyone - left and right - should be able to agree that the banks are fucking us and they're getting away with it because they have our politicians in their pockets.

I just realized Bernie & Trump talk the same way. A whole lot of meaningless paraphrasing with only the closing sentence being a real answer.

I'm trying to point out that what you call corruption is business as usual on wall st. When that corruption makes money for the average investor, we accept it and those dividend checks without question. But when things go bad like in 2008, we call for 'a return to free market principles', when there hasn't existed in this country a free market in over a century.

That said it's better than Cruz who just dodges literally every question he's given by telling long irrelevant stories and blaming Trump for everything under the sun.

>obviously

Wasn't too obvious to him, apparently.
>>
>>70192900
The banks did it because the Democrats guaranteed those loans with government backing, because not letting poor people with no way of paying back a loan get a house was raycis' and sheet.
>>
>>70193296
I agree, but that's no reason to not call for it.
>>
>>70194096
Ok, call for it and see how fast it happens.

On the other hand, if you were to lead a revolution of retards, you might actually get somewhere.

>lead a revolution of retards
So you're saying we should vote for Bernie?
>>
>>70194282
>sarcasm doesn't play out well on the internet
No I'm saying either way you accomplish nothing.
You are impotent in this situation.

>Daily News Hatchet Job taken seriously

Are /pol/lacks this idiotic after all.
>>
>>70163855
His supporters don't care about details, they ride a wave of simple emotion. It's how ours society is programmed now. Facts, reason, evidence, and actions mean nothing, only how you feel. Simple math debunks everything this man promises, yet retards keep voting for him.
>>
>>70194381
So you're just some kind of demoralization shill then?

Who are you voting for?
>>
>>70195223
Who i vote for is irrelevant.
Nothing will change.
>>
>>70195289
Shill confirmed. Thanks for playing.

For the record, the correct answer is Trump 2016.

>selling products to people who you knew could not repay
I don't get it. Isn't the owner on the buyer to repay?
