I've worked around the homeless and addicted quite a bit. You have to be legit careful about escalation with bums. You don't know who's drugged out, mentally ill, or just dgaf. They don't reason like a rational human, because they aren't rational, and can snap really easy into fighting. Many of them do it on purpose, because it makes them feel some measure of control that they don't have in life. Worst case scenario for them, they go to jail and get meals and a bed, or get killed and don't have to worry about it anymore.
