Anyone here lives in a country with mandatory military service? If yes, how it was? Did you learn anything useful?

I live in one, and in a few months I have to serve, but I'm suffering from bi polar disorder and some other mental issues, and I will try to avoid it at all costs, because I'm afraid I'll kill myself there. Besides, why should I serve a corrupt as fuck country that uses its army as servants of refugees?
>>
Coward.
>>
>>69833748

So, people in my country who serve in the military right now, and clean the shits of the refugees are more manly?
>>
>>69833988
People who don't make stupid excuses to avoid the military are more manly. Fuck off
>>
>>69834117

But mental disorders are real bro.

You probably don't understand tho, because you were never there.
>>
It's not that bad really.
>>
Yorgo, I have done it Turkey. 6 months, have fired 8 on target out of 11 with A3G3. I am sure if you get a report on your ISSUES they will give you a lighter job in army but you will regret not firing an infantry combat rifle. Nothing to be afraid of you will socialise with pals at least.

Human men were meant to kill and conquer. We're designed to lust for violence and destruction. There's a reason we love violent video games so damn much. Sign up for the military once and go into combat. You'll never want to leave.

I had a huge argument with my bulgarian friend over this. Why should anyone be forced to fight for a country they didn't even choose to be born in? Also from a pragmatic point conscripted soldiers are shit-tier. It is a major reason why the USA lost Vietnam because they forced people to fight and after doing a half assed job in the jungle they just went home to bitch about the war ending public support.

Mostly really boring.
>Did you learn anything useful?
Weapons training, leadership training, small unit tactics and a general idea how armies work. Should come handy when the civil war comes.
>bi polar disorder and some other mental issues
This would give you a free pass to skip the whole thing here.
>corrupt as fuck country that uses its army as servants of refugees
Yeah, fuck that. At this point I'd welcome Russian invaders as liberators.

Then you'll die alone when you kill yourself in your empty apartment at age 34, having achieved nothing in life. Struggle is all that gives meaning to life and you are actively avoiding struggle in its most pure form.
>>
Never did it, now I'm almost 25. I wish I would have. I still might considering the direction the world is going. If my country asked me to serve, I would. I wouldn't avoid it.
>>
An inconvenient truth: all the countries without compulsory military service are somehow cucked.
>>
>>69833555
I've been in the US Marine Corps for 4 years. Easily considered one of the most life draining and miserable organizations among the logical bunch. The guys who stay in are use to bending over for the man.
That's besides the point though.
Embrace it as a time to grow as a man and generally as a person. For some people, a short time in the military can instill much needed discipline in their life and that shit can go a long way.
For Americans who do their 4 years and get out like myself. Going back to the civilian world reminds me how unorganized and unmotivated the average person is.
I can accomplish anything with the confidence I have as a Marine.
I know that might sound stupid but dude there's a whole life out there to live. Fucking get some.

Could it be that at least they are not have to wake up 5 o'clock every morning and shave on daily basis.
>>
Technically yes but it's not enforced. 5 hours every Saturday from february to november the year after you turn 18. Can't own a gun or work for the government if you don't do it. Women are allowed to volunteer.

Spent most of that time marching. Wasn't too tough until summer came along. We were given some rifles several times and taught how to clean the but they were never armed.

Learned how cucked our military is compared to the US's and got some serious respect for anyone willing to work as a soldier. Even if you don't participate in combat it's absolutely not an easy job.

Shitty at times when you march in the rain for miles at end. When you need to wake up 6 in the morning every day to wash your room or when forced to wear the same muddy clothes for days on end.

But you're in good company and later in life you'll probably look back without regretting a second of your time served.
9.8/10 not sure if would do another year, but 1 year was a great time.

>>69835275

I never chose to be born in Finland and I wouldn't want to defend this country if something happened. In fact I'm looking forward to moving somewhere else, can't take the upcoming green storm and ISIS.
There are delusional people with power-fantasies like >>69835386 who rather believe in a civil war, but I'm not one of them. Serve as quickly as you can.
When your just out of high school it's fuck it year here or there but once you go to university or get a job then it sucks mad ass to go sit in forest for a year.

And for example as 24yo with degree and job, ~steady life, etc it can be pretty dumb to take orders from 18yo boys and halt your entire life. But some say if you serve as even older closer to 30yo you just take it as a joke and one year holiday from the society.

Also choose your branch and unit carefully. Research what sounds cool, the tougher the training the better the menories and mainly it's easier to delude yourself that one year out of your young life was important training instead of just sitting at desk at HQ or washing trucks at motor pool.
Go full soldier and try to apply paratroopers, divers, recon, etc or choose something you can't do as civilian as tank crew, heavy weapons artillery, etc.

Navy and air force support staff are good as they are easier than army.

I spent 10 years in the Marines. Would have spent more but I didn't get promoted in time. Whether you like the organization is irrelevant. Your service gives you a lot of intangible traits that make you a better citizen. A good worth ethic, punctuality, time management, organizational skills...you name it. Also stop being a pussy. "Muh Bipolar" bullshit needs to stop. Man the fuck up. Stop being defined by your illness and soldier on. Otherwise you might as well start picking out a well hung negro now for your wife to fuck.

This is exactly the sort of thing that drives these fuckers to kill themselves. They can't do it, that's why they're not allowed in. They're also relatively unreliable and in some cases can jeopardize other people's lives because of their condition.

These people don't belong in the military. It's why we don't let them in.

Rotations, brometheus.
I don't know how the Hooahs do it but in the Marines (I can only speak of aviation) we would rotate. We would usually do it in groups of 3. One unit deployed, one unit in the chute ready to deploy, and one unit training. It's actually quite simple.
>>
>>69845126
Someone explain this poem to me.
>>
>>69845932
That's pretty much it. We have the selective service that men have to register for. We don't draft anyone but we keep all of the workings in place just in case the Ruskies come screaming through the Faulda Gap or equivalent crisis.

Basically it's a tertiary level of reserves (after our selective reserve and inactive reserve) that we can draw from if the shit thoroughly and dramatically hits the fan.
>>
>>69833555
Libya had Mandatory Service before Gaddafi was killed, after you hit 18 men and women will need to train how to fight and use weapons effectively for i think a year and then they can go to college, this way he can raise a LITERAL national army that will rise in defense of the nation should anything ever happen, too bad he didnt see that it can be used against him.

one of the reasons why our civil war succeed fairly quickly was because everyone knew how to use their weapons, cant say the same about Syria tough

Finnish conscription training has been told to be impressive by many foreign military leaders, even US.
It's pretty much perfected system as there is no room to squeeze service days out so everything is done with with the best quality we can. I would day that we train better troops in one year than other conscript countries train in two.

but the individual man would only be in service for a year?

or your contract was longer but you moved onto different things?

on a side note:

I'm a mess /pol/, I always thought being a marine would be cool, since a small child, so as my teenage years came, and the bigger ones started asking me what I would do withmyself (I'm white so big expectations of course)

I would proudly say "I'm going to be a Marine!!". So I signed on with the recruiter on an enlisted aircrew contract and was in the DEP for my entire senior year, went to every function, led in physical scores, generally had a good time and couldn't wait to get out there.

Graduation came around and I shipped out, I arrived eager to show the world what I had, because I had spent countless hours getting ready for these three hellish months.

And then reality all came crashing in like a ton of bricks.

>I joined on a job I knew very little about
>I chose the most difficult branch for no good reason, the title of Marine was no guarantee of being worth the last happy years of my youth
>I never even spoke with any of the other branches to see if they would be right for me
>I would likely work longer and more difficult hours than chad at home making 7.25 an hour and I'd wind up earning less
>The Corps is turning ultra-PC and is loaded with spics
>We're at peace so I'll get stuck fucking around doing nothing and getting chewed out for nothing

So I told them I was suicidal so they would let me leave. Now I'm still stuck with the feeling that I would benefit greatly from serving but nervous I'll fuck my situation up again, I have no clue what I'm doing with myself in the next few years.

>>
>>69847086
It's conscription, every male does it. It's full training every day, no sitting around.

After your conscription service you are moved to reserve (about one million in Finland) and you attend in short training periods every few years depending on your role.

If you want to be a career soldier then you can try to get into officer school which takes five years or try to land a job to teach the conscripts at basic level with your reserve rank.
>>
>>69847086
Stop being a bitch ass boot. I hate boots and I hate pussies.

Individual man? Yeah, year long deployment (or however you're cycled). If you don't have enough time on your contract then you transfer to a different unit. It would happen all the fucking time.

Same thing like when you get back. You don't come back all at once but in groups. When the first group gets back from your unit they get all the non-deployable guys (drug pops, legal holds, short timers, etc). When you get ready to go if you can't deploy you go to the ones coming back. Simple simon.

it not really mandatory, in the sense not eveyone have to do it, all males (yeah, vaginas are safe from this) of 18 years old must join a sort of lotery, it happens in every city of every state, you get registered in a military lotery, on the goverment plaza they anounce your name an take a white or black ball from a box, if they name you and a black ball is taken, you're free and not obliged to be in military service, on the contrary if the pull a white ball, you're screwed for a year, every weekend for 8 hours.

>If yes, how it was?
It was funny. The paratroopers brigade here is the elite corps of the army so I've managed to get into some wild shit on favelas (with Maré being the worst, we were constantly harassed by AK-47s at night).

Discipline, ethics, survival knowledge, combat tatics, weapon knowledge, etc.

HANG IN THERE MAN!!!!!

I WAS JUST LIKE YOU! I served Honorably 2002-2007 USMC got out as a Sergeant. Three tours.

I wanted to kill myself in MOS school. The pain you are feeling right now, I know it! I know what it is too! You are becoming a MAN. A genuine man. Your coddled, safe, older soft self is dying in you. That is why you are in pain.

PLEASE hang in there, it gets better I swear to you on my honor. I am 32 now and I wouldn't do it again but everyday I am so thankful I did it.

The strongest bonds between humans are forged by sharing a common hardship together. You will make lifelong friends. Real friends too, not fairweather.

I really was like you. You are going to make it. Drop the suicide thing. You can make it. You will not regret it. AMA brother.
