I love riding. There are a lot of benefits to a 300 vs a 250 though which I will be posting in a summarized video on my youtube channel in the future. FYI my channel is ToroMoto btw. Anyways fuel injected bikes are less maintenance than carbeurated bikes, and have considerably more power for only a 50cc difference. Lane filtering would also be super nice... since I commute to and from Hamilton to Toronto and splitting would save a ton of time. Insurance is a MASSIVE rip off here in Canada though. Motorcycles also help me to reduce stress and blow off some steam after long days at school or at work. All in all, if you can get affordable insurance, I highly recommend it.
ALSO, the riding community is amazing. Everyone becomes a bro. I can say I have really met a bunch of top notch people through riding.

In Canada the insurance runs in categories of 0cc-100, 101 - 200, 201 - 300 etc etc.
Thus, insurance for a 250 and a 300 is the same rate. ~1600 for my 300. If insurance cost wasn't an issue I would have went with a ZX-6R, CBR600RR, or a WR450 enduro. To give you a frame of reference, for me a ZX-6R would be ~ $6000/year to insure on a clean record because I'm <25.

Also there's nothing actually stopping you from riding a higher CC.
The 125 limit is just for learners (people on the road who haven't even got their license yet). As soon as you get that, you can ride higher CCs.
There's another cut off that you can't go past until you have a certain amount of time on the bike itself, but you can bypass this by doing a higher level exam.
I'm not entirely sure because I don't even have a license yet, but I did some reading a few months ago into it.

I had a KTM 690 supermoto
i would lane split in traffic in vancouver all the time and it would piss people off when traffic was at a standstill..
getting to the front of everylight because you lane split is legit too
never been pulled over or gotten a ticket on the bike because im army and i drop that when i do get pulled over, happend 3 times... haha
anyway i got my bike stolen and collected 10 grand insurance.. boght the bike for 12 k so pretty good deal
just recently while driving i hit a motorcyclist and he did a completel flip over the front of my car and landed okay, his ducati monster was fucken destroyed and all in all it was all godo
car wreaked like weed and the cop smelled it who responded to the accident and i explained cause of afghanista ni smoke weed but didnt smoke weed that day
