Millenialfag here. Can I get any serious advice? I'm not sure what to do I'm a 24yr old living with my parents like a little faggot.

I have:
10K car
30K savings
~3k/mo job
No debt
Still in school for BA Econ, 1 more semester to go.

What do? Stay here until I graduate and then move? Anyone in a similar situation?
>>
Move out when there's an incentive to do so and the pros outweigh the cons.
>>
>>69028832
Literally no incentives right now.. I have almost no expenses other than gas and car related stuff. Credit card bills too which are at around 3,000 in total right now on 0% apr cards.
>>
I'm similar.

>Net income is $3200 per month (gross salary is $112K per year but between taxes, espp, 401k, benefits, etc. I walk away with $3200 in net rev per month)
>$50K in savings + another $50K in stocks
>No debt
>Car is fully paid off
>Student loans are fully paid off

I live in NJ, work in NYC. I want to move closer to the city but everything in North Jersey where it's actually "nice" is too fucking expensive. And if I do find a place where I can afford the mortgage...the property taxes kill me.

So kind of stuck living with my parents at the moment. Nice for now cause of no expenses (I help out with groceries, maybe $200 per month? but that's about it) so I can save up a ton of money.
>>
learn to code or join the military.

economics is worthless, its sociology for people who don't get laid.

spending 60 hours learning how to do sql/sas will be worth more than entire time you spent in school.
>>
>>69029490
School is pure enrichment for any field. Doesn't matter what you do in school today, it won't get you a job. What matters is what you do with a degree. I'll be using Econ knowledge with Python programming in the future and get a job in some financial firm.
>>
Is econ a good major?
>>
>>69028688
You paid too much for your car. That's some money wasted. Stay with your parents until your degree is done. Save like mad. Put all your money into a deposit on a well-chosen property. Then start saving again.
>>
My parents kicked me out when I was 17, I didn't have any money. Millenials are literally dogshit lol.

I'm going to guess a five-year old Volkswagen. But $10,000 on a car at your point in life is a fair amount. I'd by a 10-12yo Honda Civic and put the savings into something that earns you interest or appreciation, like a property. Good luck!

why the fuck do you have credit card bills if you have 30k in savings?????

I'm in the same boat. 20 years old, living with parents, about £15000 saved, no car yet though. I'm not really planning to move any time soon, but I'm not worried about it either. last time I checed more than half of 25 year old's live with their parents and the housing market/rent situation here is laughable. Honestly with the way it is now, unless I meet a qt grill to move in with I can see myself being with my parents until at least 28

I'm taxed roughly 28% on my base salary which is 90K
Then I get a 25% bonus which boosts my gross income/salary to $112K. On bonuses you get taxed even more than your regular income tax.

6% of my salary(pre-tax) goes into my 401K
10% of my salary (post-tax) goes towards Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP)
Then around $500 (I forget how much is pre-tax) goes towards Wage Works for my monthly bus pass
Then for all other benefits (health insurance, legal insurance, etc.) I think I'm paying around $60 or $70 per paycheck

Code is also worthless. The amount of people who know it are far too much for knowledge of code alone to be a garauntee of employment or success. Otherwise the best job you might be able to get is an IT peon who can be easily replaced when some younger more tech-savvy kid comes around.

That's not really how it works. Your credit score depends more on making payments on time over a long time than anything else.

30% of your credit score is utilization. If you pay off your cards, your score will go up. If you want to raise your score, get a car. Diversification helps.

It's becoming more and more difficult for young people to move out of their house to start life (or to pay for anything, really). People that tell you to man up and move out are usually people that are pissed off that they moved out and are getting fucked in the ass by payments and want you to suffer the same fate. Living at home is the least expensive and most intelligent option.

Besides, most jobs that pay adequately to do so require experience. Just a degree won't get you shit, you need experience to have an appreciable wage, so get some experience, find a nice job, and THEN move out to where a well-paying job needs you to be.

My parents are divorced, I emancipated myself at 16, developed cancer at 22, underwent three surgeries -- one of which I financed, obtained a surgical cure, and now have:

> 2007 Lexus LS L (daily driver - bought at $20k)
> 2011 Jaguar XJL Supersport (bought at $35k)
> 2005 Jaguar XJR (bought at $10k)
> $190k in a Registered Disability Savings Plan
> $60k in a TFSA
> $15k in a standard savings account
> $400k stone quadplex ($250k remaining balance on mortgage) with one unit reserved as a living space -- rent more than covers all expenses/mortgage
> Condominium in Phucket ($60k)

Most of my income derives from collecting rent, trading, webmastering and some consulting. I'm also enrolled on a part-time basis in a graduate program (applied statistics) for the heck of it. I'm in the process of importing a bang-maid/driver through the TFWP (I'm 27).

Canada has a lovely thing called the Canada Housing & Mortgage Corporation through which insurance for mortgages on multi-unit (owner-occupied) dwellings can be obtained with a 10% downpayment -- the property must contain 3 to 4 units with a valuation of < $500k.

I'm frugal and not averse to risk. I run a pornography forum which brought in huge amounts of webcam revenue and still does (started it in my late teens).

It's just one semester, stay at home for another few months, then but a house after you graduate

Or rent, if you aren't going to settle in one area for awhile, while putting those thousands into investments.

But definitely out 10k into a retirement fund and start making monthly contributions, it'll be a half mil by the time you're done, if not more. Gotta start around your age of you want a cooshy add retirement. That's on top of whatever pension and IRA your job offers, which you should be participating in, at least, as much as they'll match.

I suggest that remaining 20k in savings goes into some short term high yield things while you rent for a few years, get your career going, your living-on-your-own legs under you, and look for a nice small starter home you can put 20% down on. One of those cutesy places that's only 1000sq ft. If you start a family, you can upgrade around 35 with a bunch of equity built up. If you stay single like a proper b-tard you don't need more than a nice 2br/1ba, and you'll have way more money with a reasonable sizes house than by buying more than you need.

These are my plans, though I fucked up at your age and have failed to fulfill them.

Ok, I agree then, just seemed like gloating at first.

I say do whatever makes you happy and build useful skills, so long as it doesnt hurt anyone around you in any way. I enjoy learning and usually dabble in one thing after I teach myself until I have a good savings then live off of it while I repeat the process with something else.

The most recent has been video game development and ive lived off my savings for over a year now. Lifes pretty good. I don't like working for anyone or doing one thing for life. I get bored easy and would rather learn a new trade instead.

Haha -- "free" porn sites were once an easy way to make lots of money and with ease. Not so much anymore. Revenue is still respectable (USD).

Buying to let is something people do in Toronto and quite a few cities with single-unit properties but it isn't a terribly good idea. Depreciation on condominiums is terrible and margins are thin.

Few people search out duplexes/triplexes/quadplexes -- they're inexpensive and a large downpayment can be avoided through the CMHC.

It's only 5% on a 1 to 2 unit property (must be owner-occupied).

Snowboarding
Flying/Customizing Drones

I'm actually saving up for a house so I can move out, but the challenge is that property taxes in NJ as fucking high. And properties in general are also high ($500K+ for an average 3 bed 1.5 bath house in a nice suburb area 30-45 min outside of NYC). So I'm just hoarding as much cash as I can for a large down payment so that my mortgage is low enough so that I can afford paying property taxes

The caveat would be time. Multi-units aren't appropriate if you can't find time to manage the property to some degree. If that's the case, buying a decent detached home (don't buy a condominium or a rowhouse) is a fine option. It's easy to find people willing to rent rooms for $600 to $700 per month (per room) within most cities.

2k per month is barely enough to rent something not too far from university and food but there would be nothing left at the end of the month.

So, would you say that you've dedicated a lot of time to reading books?

At my university we have multiple choice tests and they can literally ask you about any fucking thing, and you have to have a whole book in your head, apart from so called "open questions" where you have to write something in your own words

I'm trying to compare polish shape of BA with the american, because when I'm reading all the things here, personally I think that if I also worked during my studies, I wouldn't be able to get good grades, maybe even not to pass a year at all, or maybe I'm just this dumb

The thing is: Why use credit cards at all?

No financially responsible person buys on credit. I'm not talking about a house, but <1000$ items. There is no reason to let it all run through some kind of special credit account that allows you to go into debt, if you don't want to go into debt anyways. Might as well just pay straight from a regular bank account. The only one profiting from this setup is the bank, from the mindless people who can't control their spending habits and slowly run up credit card debt they have to pay interest on.

That's the only reason this whole credit card culture was pushed on you people in the US. Cucking aside, I'm glad Germans are absolutely unwilling to go into debt and this stuff never caught on here.

I wonder how many people who replied to OP are poor as fuck, and probably jealous.

Honestly, the only thing I'd gain is slightly more peace and quiet than I already have, and a girl if I were to put effort into pursuing that, but I can't honestly say I'm particularly interested in women these days.

I'm not sure I'd move out even if I had to pay rent.

Maybe I'm just crazy or something, but what I have already is pretty fucking good. Sure, I don't have a car, only $3k in savings, all my shit is 5+ years old... but it's comfortable and pleasant.

Why should I want more if what I have is already satisfying? I wouldn't even know what to do with the money if I made ~20k+ a year.

My parents completely fucked up my medical care -- I first started displaying symptoms of IBD at 11 or 12. It wasn't until 14 that I was diagnosed and then at 16 that I was brought to a proper pediatric hospital. Shortly after that point I repudiated them. Thankfully my growth wasn't permanently stunted and I shot up to 6'3".

My gastroenterologist and old Canadian surgeon were both incompetent. The cancer was discovered accidentally after undergoing emergency surgery for an obstructing stricture (which proved cancerous). They then misdiagnosed me with Crohn's and limited my surgical options, causing me to nearly receive a permanent ostomy. I rejected their assessment of the evidence, traveled to the Cleveland Clinic and received a j-pouch after paying $40,000 USD. I then connected with the late Rob Ford's surgeon (Dr. Zane Cohen) for closure of the ileostomy.

Thanks man. It shaped me permanently, for better, mostly.
