Portland is the most "moved to" city in the United States. We're going to get out before things get much much worse. Also the housing market sucks. We're buying a house soon but the quality of the homes vs their cost make it a pretty stupid investment considering the amount of maintenance that will have to occur for upkeep.

Personally, I think rent controls are unnecessary as long as a city doesn't price rent at crazy levels and follows market trends rather than trying to squeeze every last dime out of their tenements.
