Once Obama came to office and the housing crisis hit, I watched people get evicted, live on the streets, then get put back in houses and apartments that the HUD purchased from the banks. Rather than help them get jobs, they let people collapse entirely, then stick everyone on welfare and put them back where they were, still unemployed, now with illnesses, addictions, depression and broken families. I watched this kind of thing play out hundreds of times over 4 years. I even got laid off twice. Refused to go on welfare because it felt like I had helped people like me my whole life get on their feet, only to be turned into one of my clients. Add to that what I already knew about the nepotism, lying, fraud with grant and federal money, the tax abuse, the way agencies intentionally defraud their clients and employees. Watching purple haired SJWs with masters degrees from rich families get promoted over me within a few months of their hire, then shit on clients for being male, for being any identity they don't find "oppressed enough" to give a shit about. Read a lot of history in that time, and realized that all these dissidents from socialist countries were essentially describing their lives under a Party bureacracy -- but it was like reading about my life. I was literally living in a little bubble of communism, and if the entire world became like my little slice of hell, our lives would be over. All hope would be lost.
Finally went back to school and got the BSc in Computer Science I always wanted to get. Now work for a consulting firm and I can actually afford new clothes more than once every 5 years.
