A lot of people of all political persuasions believe in looking after the Earth and its creatures. EPA and similar regulatory bodies should exist to provide our protection and oversight over clear cut and unambiguous situations related to the essentials safe living in the here and now: clean water, clean air, clean living space. It should not be involved in long-term planning of global warming given how tainted that is by the culture wars and the indirect nature of it. Simply put, the EPA in charge of fracking or oil oversight would ask "Will this be another deepwater Horizon" and not "Will this make the polar bears sad and homeless". Drilling off the coast does not immediately and directly cause the myriad of factors involved in global warming the way drilling off the coast could cause an oil spill fuckup that damages the local environment. You can't point to a California drought, another superstorm sandy, a harsh cold spell in 2023 and go "This event happened directly because Shell drilled for oil in Texas".
Determining our environmentalist activities should be in the hands of the legislature, not the unelected bureaucrats.
