>>

They're all so dogshit, this coming from a traditional Labor voter. It's not like I have a choice, guess I'll be voting the least worst option and run with Shorten. Might put NXT in senate if he runs candidates in my state.
>>
>>69328534
No fucking choice, we have to go Liberal or they introduce 'Safe Schools' Leftist indoctrination. Though having that pass could rile up the silent majority to take back the country.

Voting liberal.
In reality, the leader of the party is just a figure head.
Sure you can bash on Turnbull, but I still agree with the policies more of Liberal than of Labor.
I suppose I just hate workers unions.
As for senate voting I'm thinking voting in this order:

Liberal
Nationals
Gun lobby
Australian Alliance
Family First
And I don't know my sixth vote yet.
>>
>>69328534
Greens.
>>
>>69328534
LNP is the only option even if it is shitty just remember to vote below the line so minor parties don't get cucked so hard

>Though having that pass could rile up the silent majority to take back the country.

To be honest, I think it would take much more than just safe schools to wake people up. If shit like terrorist bombings across the world and the Sydney siege isn't enough to wake people up, telling a 13 year old boy that he can be a girl if he wants won't.

Is Clive Palmer the Donald Trump of Australia?
>>
>>69329010
Not really.
Clive doesn't get enough support.
And he ran under his own banner, not under one of the major parties.
Plus, Clive isn't based. He just wanted to get into parliament to scrap the mining tax so he could increase his profit margin.
>>
>>69328534
Turnshit is going to suffer the same fate Gillard did after she stole power.
Nobody wants to vote the other side in because they are led by a complete shitter, but nobody is happy with those in power, so we will see a huge boost in minor parties which will force the Libs to make deals to maintain power.

Whole system is fucked and everyone is just disillusioned with it m8.

Evidence like: Negative gearing is pushing up housing prices. Greens want to abolish it entirely unlike pussy arsed Labor who only want to grandfather it.
Evidence like: Climate change is real and carbon pricing not only lowered Australia's greenhouse emissions but it increased investment into renewable technology.
Evidence like: Privatising natural monopolies leads to price gouging and corruption.
Evidence like: Every dollar invested in education pays itself off 27 times over. Greens want to make university free and they'll pay for that by removing the government HANDOUT to private, religious schools (currently 10 billion a year)

You'd be surprised how much I don't agree with Leftist policy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Greens#Recent_policy_positions

Just a few:
>Ban the importation of animals for zoos in Australia "except where the importation will assist the overall conservation of the species"
Disagree. I want to see cool animals at the zoo.

>Opposition to uranium mining and nuclear power and a permanent prohibition on new large-scale dams on Australian rivers
Vehemently disagree with the former and assert that the Greens are almost single-handedly responsible for Australia missing a golden opportunity at being a world leader in nuclear power and research. Circumstantial with the latter, which could be avoided entirely as a problem with nuclear power.

>Ending Australia's Defence Treaty with the United States unless it can be changed to operate within the Greens view on Australia's national interest
Ridiculous given the growing power of China and India.

>Support for the 2011 military intervention in Libya.
Directly lead to the collapse of a stable government that protected Europe from hordes of niggers, which of course is bad for Leftists as niggers vote Left.

>Support for same-sex marriage.
Strongly oppose.

>Support for reproductive rights.
Viciously oppose and believe that any woman who aborts for any reason other than giving birth threatening her own life should be charged with murder.

>Prioritising family reunion migration, rural and regional distribution of refugees and enhancing regional co-operation.
Oppose. There are dozens of closer countries for Arabs and niggers to go to that are far more culturally compatible.

>Supported National Apology to the Stolen Generations.
Literally turned us into cucks and put boongs into a moral position of power of us.

So no, I don't agree with Leftist policies. They also support banning guns, which is inexcusable.

Having a bachelors will be a requirement to function within 20-30 years. People should not be indebted tot eh government, they should have the right toa free education.

Their policy is actually usually mostly decent as a party. The problem is some of their politicians and many of their followers are extremely stupid.

Another problem is Liberal and labor are both hopelessly corrupt and act against the interests of Australians. So of the major parties you are left choosing between a pair of traitors or the greens who mean well but will have some policies you strongly dislike.

I always vote libertarian type parties in the senate but preference greens above lib/lab. For MP where I live the only options are Labor and Green, weakening the Labor party is my preferred choice.

>>69330119
Negative gearing is only part of the problem, Foreign investment (some of it criminal) and population pressures from mass immigration, visa workers and refugees play a huge part as well.

Free university is not the answer huge amounts of people drop out after the first year and many get degrees that are useless the taxpayer should not be given this burden- perhaps a more reasonable alternative is waving/ refunding the student debts of people that graduate with useful degrees and work in the industry for over a year (Useful being STEM and medical roles)
>>
>>69330549
Then they should pay less taxes then. If they get no benefit from taxes going towards Education, they shouldn't have to pay them.

As it is, they pay full taxes thus they should get full benefit. It is outrageously unfair otherwise. Sort of like saying if you have private health insurance you have absolutely no right to use public hospitals or bulk billing doctors.

Turnbull is a cunt but the right wing of the LNP has him by the balls so he's really just Abbott-lite, which wouldn't be unbearable. However they want to cockblock several important reforms that I care about.

Labor, however, has some really fucking tasty policies (negative gearing reform, possible NBN revamp, to name a few), but they're generally bad at things that are important to me like keeping the non-whites in their places.

LNP = mostly mediocre bad
Labor = some really good stuff, some terrible stuff

I just don't know. I guess we'll see what happens. Leaning Labor sliiiightly at the moment.

Frankly they all belong on scaffolds though. You could gut a politician and there'd be nothing inside. They're just skin-suits that can laugh and smile and cry but they don't feel. Cory Bernadi talking about small government and liberty again?

While supporting banning same sex marriage and other big government christian fundamentalist policies?

Just ignore him. Him and his buddies are what's killing the Liberals from the inside.

Labor NBN policy is a farce. Any party that comes up with a government constructed and owned monopoly on telecommunications is going to be a policy that takes longer than a single term that will never materialise. Just like the original NBN which was behind schedule and overbudget. It was never going to happen.

Shorten is a union puppet. Bad news. Not as bad news as the rabid feminist SJW Tanya Plibersek who will replace him when they lose the next election. Never vote for Labor while she is in parliament. Because there's an inside chance she will be leader and PM at some point.

Only time voting Labor will be acceptable in the next 10 years is if Albanese becomes leader. Supported Liberals border policy and is a friend of Andrew Bolt.

>How can people genuinely believe there is such a thing as "too much education"

People who see how many are defaulting on student loans in the US and HECS in Australia. If those people are unable to pay back the cost of the degree it speaks to the economic benefit of getting it in the first place.

>open border green party
The ironic thing is if the greens had been in charge, for most of their history we would have ended up with far less migrants.

They used to oppose immigration on environmental grounds.

They gave this up when it became untenable to be against asylum seekers. They couldn't resist the moral posturing.

Still, they probably dislike economic immigrants more than the major parties and under the greens overall immigration might be less, even if we take in more muslims and niggers.

Bob Brown came to the Greens through environmental issues, not Marxist ones. Christine Milne was the same.

The Marxist faction has strengthened in recent years though, and it has become almost impossible to imagine an environmentalist who isn't also a leftist on social and economic issues. But that wasn't always the case.

Wouldn't they be far less able to, or to far less of an extent if the government literally owned and operated them though? If they price gouge, or get away with it, the Government is responsible, so they're less likely.

Privatization for the sake of privatization is retarded. You should privatize the shit that doesn't work, not the hugely profitable, ever expanding infrastructure that will be worth 20x as much in 5 years time. That's just a bad investment for the populace.

Agreed but if we're going to have a travelling circus that takes 50 years to get the system up and running we may as well spring for the 5 star one. In for a penny, in for a pound, as they say.

>Shorten is a union puppet.
Also agreed, and that's one thing I don't like. I want the LNP to get in for its union corruption reforms, even though they are 75% just a political attack on Labor anyway, but I really want some of Labor's policies to get through. Just... none of their other policies.

>I think it's scary that literally every major western nation that i know of is having huge problems with people and their politicians.
Western democracy has failed, the lack of mechanisms to deal with large parties, media corruption, politicians using mass migration to gain votes and many other things have destroyed it in it's current form.

A new democratic system needs to be developed from the beginning that takes into account how much has changed in the last few hundred years. But existing politicians will never agree to that. So it will just trundle along until things get bad enough that the population revolts.
>>
>>69331904
>Wouldn't they be far less able to, or to far less of an extent if the government literally owned and operated them though?

it's not until you hear the scary stories from telstra employees that you realise that some of the shit that happens is based on when they were a government owned company, and it continues because there was never a total clear out when it was privatised.

> If they price gouge, or get away with it, the Government is responsible, so they're less likely.

some of their pricing is restricted by government, iirc landline voice and data connections.

So our options are

> Get ripped off, but be unwilling to do anything because uninformed voters.
or
> Get ripped off, but be unable to do anything.

I'd still prefer the former, given it's also producing money directly for the government, rather than just taxes that have been loopholed to shit.

>The total number of people accessing HELP schemes almost doubled in the eight years to mid-2015 to 2.2 million.

>How could we even possibly know that considering the people who graduate now aren't expected to pay off their HECS debt for decades?

It's not difficult to model these things out.

Anything you subsidise, you get more of. Governments are distorting the market of education resulting in people with degrees who's value is lower than the cost and it's creating a bubble in America. Like most things we are a couple years behind them.
>>
>>69332388
>why would you vote for the open borders party?
And you think the LNP isn't open borders? They're rabidly pro-457 visas, which is even worse than being pro-refugee since it kills jobs and depresses wages.
>>
>>69332531
I mean, at least the Greens want to cut back on the 457 visas and are also anti-TPP and anti free trade, which are extremely pro-open borders treaties.

The two major parties are just as pro open borders as the Greens, if not more. Stop believing the memes.
>>
>>69330551
it needs modernization, all modern countries are currently doing this.
did you read the white paper?
>>
>>69332531
457 visas are the opposite of open borders.

Greens want to literally ship and fly in refugees before they even get to Australia. With zero limits on amount and no enforcement of our borders and no restrictions on how long the refugees can stay here.

How long will it take before that kind of policy will overtake 120k 457 places a year in negative impact? Just look at the growth of refugees after Rudd dismantled the Pacific Solution and imagine if our border was completely open.

Fair enough. I'm just a guy who wants the world to stay exactly the way it is now forever. No joke.

>Economic and financial concepts still apply.
Sure, but the economic and financial concept in question is not "too many people are being educated which means my education is worth less which is bad for me." That quote is true, but it's not something that a reasonable person is concerned about because having a highly educated society is beneficial for the entire society, including you. You will make less money relative to other people, but everyone will be wealthier in absolute terms because education allows us to do everything better, even if not more profitably. Judging the worth of education requires measuring more than dollars. Yes, more education = education worth less, but that doesn't mean your quality of life will drop. Uneducated Australians benefit immensely just from being in a country full of other people who are educated.

However, arguing that our education system is not performing well is valid. I think university reform is important because our universities are heading down a bad path of quantity of graduates over quality of graduates. This is because the universities themselves are treating education as a business. Education is a public good and should be regulated as such.

I can't read the Australian because >paying to read the Australian, but it sounds like the main concern there is vocational programs which anyone could see will not lead to long-term high income in an automated economy of the future.

>It's not difficult to model these things out.
It's incredibly difficult to predict what the economy of the 2030s will look like accurately, let alone what skills it will demand.

If that were true, the economy could support the repayment of these debts. Where in our economy is this surplus coming from? The government is in debt and paying off defaulting student debt with more. That is not a good sign that this education is somehow creating more value to the country than it is costing.

>>69332991
They are charging what the market will bear. The 'bubble' in this case is the huge amount of people taking out loans with no hope of repayment. A combination of government subsidies and the stupid hype of 'you have to go to college' is what has caused it.

Sure, but debt doesn't matter. So long as revenue growth is faster than deficit growth then you can literally have infinite debt forever and it will never matter.

And the government is capable of paying for education, it just spends that money on dumb shit like free handouts for sick old people and keeping refugees in detainment instead of just shooting them, etcetera etcetera. It's like saying an alcoholic can't afford his apartment because he spends his paycheck on drink. He can afford the apartment, he can't afford the alcohol.

The future of economies, as mass automation comes in, is the government taxing the guts out of a minority of extremely high earners to fund the quality of life of everyone else. We're already seeing this on a very very low level.

What?

Debt doesn't matter because
1. governments can't default because they can always just print money and pay it off. Hyperinflation is bad, sure, but this fallacy that debt will lead to the end of the state is retarded
2. so long as revenue growth is sufficient to pay for interest growth then debt will never be an issue anyway because you just pay off the interest and ignore it
3. relative to 2, the time value of money states that inflation will mean debt is relatively less expensive the longer you have it. debt accrued today will be less of a liability tomorrow even if you don't pay it off because of perpetual inflation

So relax. So long as interest < revenue the debt doesn't matter. The deficit is what matters, but having a deficit is not the end of the world. It just can't be too big.

The economy of the nation is not a household budget.

Democracy is a bad idea, and always has been. It killed the people who invented it. The Greeks were so proud of their creation, but it lead to the degeneration of their society. The Romans were literally able to just walk in and take the place over, because the Democratic process employed by the Greeks was unable to stop them. They took Greek men and women for slaves, forced them to educate their children, cannibalized their culture. And the Greeks made only the feeblest of protests to stop them. Why?

Because Democracy is a cancer. It fails to provide for the single most important function of civilization, which is to ward off outside invaders that come to pillage and destroy. Civilization has always been protected by a thin, transparent, adamantine shell of ultraviolence. Democracy erodes that shell by not only inhibiting a nation or state's ability to defend itself adequately, but by indoctrinating the populace with the lie that everyone is equal.

No. They are not equal. Not only are members of the populace not equal to one another, but the people outside of this nation or civilization are not equal to us, either. If they were, they wouldn't live in squalor and rape each other for sport. They have hands with which to work, and minds with which to think. If we have civilization and they don't, it's because we made better use of what we had than they did. We were better.

If a democratic country of 1 million people allowed 2 million people of a different country to come in and vote, would the original 1 million be in control of their country? Would they have as much say in their fate?

>It's like the rebate for mining companies for the petrol excise since that is designed to pay for roads they don't drive their vehicles on.
Sounds like a cushy mining subsidy/corporate handout to me. I'D CUT THAT SHIT TOO

>The rebate is designed to encourage people to take out greater healthcare than basic government provided services as well as not tax them for services they won't use.
Fuck off. Private healthcare is inefficient as fuck, the US system is the best example of that, who spend more on healthcare that anyone else int he world. Most privately covered people still end up using the public system for emergencies, the PBS for drugs and claim back on Medicare anyway. They use the public system as much as anyone. Their own fault for giving money to the insurance jews.

Why do you support tax loopholes?
>>
>>69335002
He will. After he wins this election he can clean out a lot of the extreme right wing deadwood (Bernardi, Tone etc).

Then you will see a real Turnbull budget. Welfare cuts, STEM spending, common sense taxation and regulation.

Strawman

>3. relative to 2, the time value of money states that inflation will mean debt is relatively less expensive the longer you have it. debt accrued today will be less of a liability tomorrow even if you don't pay it off because of perpetual inflation

Creditors know this and price this in.

No, palmer is a poser with no real cash flow from his two main assets. I.e. a shittier lower grade iron ore deposit that he has in wa and the nickel refinary which went into administration and back the other day.

Are you braindead?

The rebate encourages people to get private health insurance. So they pay the medicare levy on top of their own insurance, but get services privately instead of publicly.

They're paying for shit they don't use, which helps the budget.

>Why do you support tax loopholes?

It's not a loophole. It is an explicit exemption from the medicare levy for holding private health insurance for the reasons I already gave.

>sovereign default
Notice how it's not just called a "default"? That's because it's different to a normal default. When was the last time Greece was seized by liquidators and sold off to repay creditors? Never? That's not how states default. Unless you're willing to go to war to get your money back (and this has happened) then nothing happens except everybody's out a hell of a lot of cash and the government isn't able to borrow for a decade or two. Creditors don't care about debt, they care about that sweet, sweet steady flow of interest.

>Creditors know this and price this in.
Sure, but they can't just price it away. It's just how the system works, which is why they're always lending bigger and bigger sums so that their inflows stay high.
>>
>>69335581
Mate they were doing that shit when I was in school, but no-one gave a shit because there was no one to be offended. Perks of living in the country I guess, Melbourne and Sydney can fend for themselves. Shit's different on the ground, cobber.

Greece is an example of
a) how a government "default" is different from a default
b) how when interest > revenue you get problems

The problem is not that Greece was in too much debt. Greece's debt is minuscule compared to the debts of the US or China. The problem is that Greece was in too much debt relative to its revenue. Creditors lost faith in its ability to make repayments and stopped lending, and the debt cycle came to a grinding halt.

So long as interest < revenue, and interest growth < revenue growth, your debts can be literally infinite. Nobody will ever care. People worried because they realised that Greece was using Germany's credit card, not its own, and not because Greece was using a credit card.

Voting liberal (preferencing them over the other majors in the upper house).

Not a big fan of the new cabinet but there is a lot of decent politicians in the liberal party so I root for the right faction to get their shit together.

Labor is cancer and I'm sure the MP they'll plant in my electorate will just be some dolt who is mates with one of the other members. Seriously, what even is the Labor party now, people need to stop voting for parties "because they always have". Look at Labor 10 years ago and compare it to now, I was never a Labor supporter but I used to consider them a respectable opponent that actually had legitimate beliefs and stood for those

People with private healthcare don't pay for Medicare levy. And then they get a further tax deduction. But they still use it, and the public system.
