My law teacher in high school played COPS whenever we had a substitute. He'd usually justify it by saying that it's to show Search and Seizure laws in action or the stress of police work, but really, he mostly just played it for us to laugh at meth heads. Fox kept it around but dumped it because they wanted to use Saturday night to rerun new tv shows to save money.
Spike TV saved it, but they butchered the format since they now split segments up into halves (and ruined reruns since they now split the final segment of each older episode to get more commercials in).

There's a new show called The Hunt with John Walsh which started in 2014. It's basically America's Most Wanted all over again... pretty sweet.
There's also a new COPS clone called Under Arrest which I believe started in 2016 and is on Netflix. It's basically a straight up clone and they even tried to make a catchy theme song like the original.
