Why dont millennials attend trade school?
>>

because they think a shitty sociology degree makes them an intellectual

Because it's a stupid meme.

What you are basically implying is that markets don't work. Because if there was really jobs to he had and lots of money to be made without going to college trade school would be flooded with people.

There's 20 million people employed in a trade:

http://www.bls.gov/emp/ep_table_201.htm

which is coincidently the same number of people in higher education:

So at the very best you can maybe displace 0.5% to 1% of people from college to trade schools. It's definitely not the solution you think it is.

>>
>>68798488
there actually are though

we are in a high demand of electricians, plumbers, carpenters, roofers, welders, extra.

the issue is yes these jobs won't pay you $90k a year and treat you like a unique special individual that makes you feel good and actually requires effort and a level of physical labor, but they pay decent and are in demand. they have been for a long ass time.

i'm taking a few cisco classes this semester (already received my rhca) and you be surprised by how many legal mexicans, some chinks, and a few pajeets with only a couple of white people are in the program. we have a wall of "graduates". those that have taken and received their ccna and more than half the last names are not white.

whites are being manipulated and fooled into thinking they need a $50k bachelors degree to get a decent paying job. the university system is that, a system. its a for profit enterprise under the guise of a non profit state funded academia institution. so many get deceived into going off to college believing their philosophy degree is going to land them a $110k salary one month after graduation.

meanwhile that guy that went and received his welding certification after six months of studying and four years later is netting a nice $55k a year with zero debt.

>i know because that's my brother who went off and got his wielder certification. hes currently working for a large elevator manufacturer.

but no they wont go after those jobs because they believe its beneath them and their some glorified intellectual where the sun shines out of their ass.

I'm 21 years of age, so technically a millenial.

I went for an interview at a company, I didn't get the job I applied for. That company then went back to my recruiter, and said "hold on a sec, we got a job in another department which this candidate could do". I'm now employed doing pic related.

I don't even give a shit, its a menial fucking job but at least i see money in my bank account every fucking week, rather than like £100 per 2 weeks claiming benefits.

It's really fucking retarded that people around my age are so fucking bone idle and entitled. Most people would turn down a job like this because it's "beneath them". There are people who will never apply to places like McDonalds or other service jobs because "I'm better than that" with their shitty College BTEC certificates and questionable degree with no experience behind them.

They don't want to do apprenticeships, they don't want to do work experience/internship/temping, they want to turn up for a job they fucking like and expect £10 an hour for it. This new job is fucking minimum wage, but it's going to be my gateway into the company, enabling me to move into a more permanent role if I do a good job, or finding better pay elsewhere.

It's just disgusting and no one is addressing these problems.
>>
>>68798565
This. They are told their whole life by their parents and peers that no college = failure. My parents never told me that trade schools were an option and I have been kicking myself for not finding out before college.

>>68799769
They believe this because they have been told that their whole lives. It is the result of the coddled generation where participation was good enough for merit.

>>68799803
Partially true. Don't be too hard on them, they grew up during a time with record high youth unemployment. They also probably never grew up doing any manual labor whatsoever because they lived in a small lot of land. I had the opportunity to do yard work growing up that made me learn the value of a hard days work, but this was an opportunity presented to me by my parents.

We need to remind ourselves that children are inherently ignorant so their decisions are a product of the environment their parents raised them it.

I'm about to finish up schooling here in the next few months, and I've seen a lot of millennials there who are actually genuinely interested in trade work. But even then you get those faggots in there who obviously don't give a shit and just want to do some school they think will be easy so their parents stop bitching at them about going to school or some shit.
>>
>>68800812

Good for you anon, it's shit money but you've got to start out at the bottom sometimes. A man has to work.
>>
>>68800207
You majored in a field that you can gain knowledge of for free on the internet. But that is okay Anon, I don't blame you. Our generation had to learn how to use the internet on our own while our parents couldn't even create an e-mail account without someone holding their hand. We received really shitty advice and were born too early.

Dallas and Austin are the hottest markets for construction at the moment and there's no way you're going to make 90k in construction unless you're an executive or owner of a construction company.

Here are some real numbers from an electrician who works in these two markets:

$22k - $48k for a non-supervisor electrician (1-10 years experience)

$54k - $65k for an electrical superintendent role

$50k - $72k for a general contractor superintendent position

carpenter/laborer: $20k - $33k

Plumber/welder: similar to electrician pay

You are right, but I would argue that most majors related to STEM are easier to learn in a structured environment and the projects are more applicable to employers. My senior design in electrical engineering was a key factor for gaining employment. But anything related to learning a programming language and computer architecture can and should be self taught. It would be easier and show employers you have a passion for what you do if you create your own graphical interface or whatever and is completely doable without wasting four years + $40k.

Because trade schools are the short term gain plan.

People with a college degree make almost twice as much money as some one without over their working life.

It just takes time to ramp up.

However, there are some bonus to trades.
>income less effected by economy
>Skills learned are actually useful towards saving money(doing your own plumbing for example)
>income dependent on hours(can work 70 hours a week for mad money)

Compared to white collar college jobs
>Income heavily depedant on economy(salaries will soar when it improves, practically unlivable when bad like right now)
>Skills learned highly specialized and information based rather than skill based(no matter how much you know about banking you can't create your own mortgage)
>income is salaried

I personally choose College because I am willing to plan for the future.

Millenials dont like blue collar/working class jobs. Even though trades pay more than many of the 'intellectual' jobs, they still see those as beneath them. I know adjunct profs and librarians who think plumbers, electricians, et al are folks even though those jobs make several times what these scholarly folks do.

This is a big reason why working class whties are leaving the Dem Party. The Dems openly disdain them.

School already takes way too long to finish. It should last up to a year at most. If whatever you're doing takes longer to learn, you should be able to apprentice directly with an employer who needs someone like you.

Spending year after year at school not earning money isn't doing anybody good.

Daily reminder that you don't need a a 6 figure salary to have a family, a QT wife or a happy life in general.

Average household income USA around 50,000

I make 55,000 as a nurse and live by myself. I'm a king. Working in masters to make up to 75,000-120,000. So I can afford to support a stay at home wife and kids and afford to give them a life close to what u had. I do tiling for kitchens and bathrooms self employed and won't work for less than £150/day. I also know a plumber that earns 200-400 on a good day. He has no qualifications. Actually it was terrible and my nipples got chafed in the summer. Still, it was cool because I got full-time benefits for part time work. That's medical, dental and vision FREE NIGGA. God I miss those days. NEET all day, package sorter at night, back to NEET.

I was thinking about doing tiling.

Is it an art form like plastering or more like a an exact science, just measure and everything slots together?

america is a fucked up place looking down at "blue collar" workers but a lot of these jobs like electricians, pipe fitters, plumbers, ect are better pay than the white collar jobs every show you watch made by an american tv company always looks down on these people.

I've never tried plastering, though it's a skill i really need to acquire as tiling and plastering goes hand in hand. As long as you set you first row of tiles level and use spacers its childs play. It gets a little tricky on some renovation work as walls and floors are rarely flat and level. The biggest challenge to renovation tiling work imo is getting your wall or floor flat and level/plum and setting up the surface you're going to tile on. Quite a bit of carpentry involved. The tiling is piss as long as you are working on nice flat boarding and a level and flat floor.

I interview a ton of millenials for fisheries technician jobs (i'm a supervisory district biologist for a large fish and game department) and if someone can't do basic engine work, weld, plumb, or do some type of electrical work, I just don't hire them. Kids today, fuck i feel old, think they can get a job in fisheries where you have to run boats and be part of a crew on the water with just some gay piece of paper from a university, if you can't work on an engine or weld or something like that, you don't need to be on a boat. Most of my friends went through trade school.
>>
>>68798338
I've worked jobs, while going through school, that were pretty close to a trade job without actually being a trade job.

The superiority attitude that tradies say that college students have is reciprocated by the trade people, and I dont think they realize it. They expect new hires to already know how to use a wide range of tools, know how to do various tasks, and to have what they think is 'common sense' about a lot of things. One place even expected me to bring my own tools, without reimbursement. See this post >>68810853, this attitude from what I have seen is pretty common.

As if a student fresh out of college or high school from either the suburbs or the city are going to know any of these things. I doubt a lot of rural kids are either. Believe me, the trade people think that millenials are just as stupid, if not stupider than college millenials think that non-college educated people are (most dont even have this attitude btw). A college education is not going to show a student how to work a circular saw or repair electrical wiring. Its not going to condition a student for 10 hours of labor work 6 days a week. Then they have the gall to lecture us on hard work or call us lazy.

This is before the other judgemental things that they point towards millenials, like thinking we are all emasculated faggots who cant find their dicks. I'm not sure what they are expecting and I dont think they do either. They just want to be left alone with their other old comrades and do things the way they have always been done without being displaced by millenials. Because, what are they going to do? Break into the tech field? Move into the intellectual disciplines? Millenials have pretty solid footing in those fields. No, there is another problem and its called false expectation.
>>
>>68814256
>>68813575
And i also wan to make appoint that millenials bitch about free education yet not that many took advantage of a free trade school education in high school.
>>
>>68798338

Because they are lied too through High School that you can be successful if you go to University. You're told that a bachelors degree will literally double to triple you average income.

Turns out, its bullshit just like most of what they tell ya in HS. Kind of wish I had find out about trade school sooner, but I'm so close to graduation I might as well finish.
>>
>>68814464
Its pretty standard in trade jobs to have your own set of tools, or at least the basic ones.
>>
>go to trade school
>learn how to operate cnc, take blueprint reading. learn setup
>Try to find job
>Find job
>start pay $15 an hour
>Have to work literally 10 years to get moved up to anywhere near 20
>Also have to work grave shift, since all machinists who are new to the company.
>Work graveyard shift for 3 years
>Get sacked because of downsize
>Find another machinist job that pays $17 an hours
>Put in nightshift again

vs

driving for uber.

Right now I drive every 5 days a week, get paid around 5 to 6 on average a week. Beats getting paid a hundred extra and having to deal with the stress and bullshits of job life. IMO this is how a job should be, you work then you go home and enjoy life. This "Let me learn a trade so it becomes my life" is gay as fuck stupid meme created by employers to use your ass.
>>
>>68814915
Its this same attitude that prevents new hires from easily taking up the trades.

I'll say it again, I think the trade people dont want millenials as well as the majority of millenials not wanting to work trades.
>>
>>68798812
