remember guys when FSA in aleppo where angry they lost 300 soldiers for false news of Aleppo SAA defeat while there was an ambush.

we all were a part of that false news shilling.
>>
>>68777974
There is currently negotiating over a political solution between FSA and Syrian government. If they FSA breaks off negotiation, they will be destroyed by Syrian government + allies. So in essence, there is no choice for them.

It's important to understand that the opposition is not a monolithic group, there are several hundred different groups, most of very small in size. The largest opposition groups, Nusra (Al-Qaeda), Ahrar ash-Sham, and Jayish-Islam, are all radical Sunni groups who are not under cease-fire agreement. Without the support of these groups, the militias that make up the FSA would not be able to exist. So with the choice of war, FSA can't survive without terrorists which will all in time be destroyed, and with the path of peace it is forced into negotiations from a very bad position and cannot make very large claims.

It is a very complex war politically, the rebels are basically screwed whatever they do.

Warfag since 2011 here.
Assad has had the advantage for almost three years. It turns out, wars take time.
Russia made the Syrians prove they could hold their own for years before intervening.

Jihadis are finally getting pushed to the limit because they're running out of international money and sympathy, it's also much harder to move supplies through Turkey as they freely did for years. Putin is providing badly-needed air support so Assad's side can make faster gains.

Aleppo is far bigger and more important than Raqqa in every sense, they're focusing there first.

Yes, but not fully. If they control the entire city and the surrounding area, they can free up a lot of manpower used elsewhere.

But it's not just Aleppo itself, it's the entire Aleppo province that is far more important than Raqqa. If they can take Aleppo the way is clear to push to the Turkish border and capture the last Nusrat-held border post.

It would severely hurt the rebel logistical situation yes. They can still smuggle supplies over illegal crossings and by bribing people, but it'd be harder and wasteful resource wise.

Ambulances with injured rebel fighters can't simply cross the border anymore either, which would damage morale.

Aleppo is the twin city to Damascus and the cornerstone of the whole rebel movement.
The whole city was almost lost in 2012, and the government has gradually strengthened its position since then. This year Assad finally has the troops for offensive operations, but they're moving against the strongest rebel positions in all Syria.
Aleppo is THE MOST important battlefield far and away, without it the rebels are nothing and ISIS are just a desert uprising.

They have helped with numerous airstrikes in the past, I think they still are.

I don't have much info on Assyrians, but from what I've seen the tension with Kurds wasn't as big of a deal as people made it out to be. The Kurdish police (Asayish) tried to detain some Assyrian troops and that's when tensions rose, I think 1-2 people died but then the situation was diffused.

All I know is for once the Kurds actually helped the Assyrians protect Alqosh and now all the Christians are going there for protection.

I'm pretty scared of what will happen once Isis is dealt with since the Assyrians and Kurds believe they both should own Northern Iraq.

if the ypg doesn't gather allies to back them up by the time the war with the rebels and isis ends we might see them clash with assad

if the ypg gathers allies i imagine it would be a peace agreement with turkey and alliance with the krg afterwards, plus increased armament support from usa

>Holy shit. This is going so fast

It's a lose cause. Almost all of ISIS's defenses were concentrated on the mountain ridges surrounding western part of Palmyra. There's a good reason why that city was founded there over 2000 years ago. It's perfectly situated around a barrier of of mountains making it a lot more defensible.

Now that all of the mountain peaks have been taken by the SAA, there is absolutely no way that ISIS would be able to defend their city. It's an uphill battle literally.

The Assyrian are part of the SDF, I doubt that'll become an issue. Assyrian are a minor player compared to the Kurds anyway, they would not stand a chance.

Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan might have a fight over territory though. I doubt the KRG is going to give up territory that it claims but is nominally part of the Baghdad governments' territory.

The eventual fate of the Syrian Kurdish region remains as vague as ever. They are probably well aware they can't just go "lol we federal nao" and have everyone accept it, which is why they are trying to build ties with Arabs I guess. Their neutrality/cooperation with Assad remains, but that will be tested once the bigger threats are dealt with I guess

>>68782013
Oh, I thought you were talking about Assyrians in Syria at first. The "Asayish" kurdish police thing happened in Syrian Kurdistan.

As for Iraq, I don't think Assyrians in Iraq want to split from Iraqi Kurds, but they've obviously been fucked over by the peshmerga retreating from ISIS way back then, so I would say it's a bittersweet alliance

> because i think we all (including ISIS) know, they (ISIS) where only really good at (ATGM-)ambushes and fast/mobile surprise attacks

They exploited a Civil War and bum rushed into each unprotected city they could get into. They would then steal the weaponry from the military bases from Assad to tackle bigger fish that were already strained with stretched out resources (Palmyra).

ISIS is a fucking joke. It was inevitable that they were going to fall. Their army consists of nothing but stolen equipment and once they lose a tank, they can't replace it at all. And now that the enemies of theirs have all dug in, they aren't able to push for an offensive. It's the reason why the SAA was able to hold onto DeirEzzor this entire time despite being completely surrounded. They dug in and setup enough fortification that the stone chuckers wouldn't be able to penetrate it.

I just don't see it happening even in the future, the Kurds are like 6% of the population, once the big threat is taken care of excpect Assad to go after them the same way his dad did.

>when the ypg was starting to take root in northern syria a few years ago they demolished arab and turkmen houses, killed some civilians and forcefully deported the rest

I didn't hear anything about that considering that I've been visiting sg since the begining, but if that's the case they will get their whit pushed back eventually.

Amazing. It took Russia, what, 6 months? to shore up the SAA from where it was "strategically withdrawing" across the country.

Russia entered at Assad's lowpoint. That means that ANY NATION could have effected largely the same result at any time during the Syrian Civil War.

There was a king of Italy who was once warned to stay away from Naples because of a cholera epidemic. He has a reason to -- there was some kind of national celebration in Milan. He answered "In Milan they dance, in Naples they die. I'm going to Naples."

In Argentina they tango, in Syria they die. Obama went to Argentina.
>>
>>68784036
I really wonder what the western governments actually bombed, because since Russia joined in on the bombing, they have pretty much changed the tide of the war on their own.

Mate they had many bright moments.
One would be the Aleppo prison Siege. Held out for months against the rebels without much food, and they still had to guard the prisoners. They survived and the SAA reached the Prison after an offensive

>visiting sg since the begining
sg is mainly russian propaganda, a lot of the posters here get their news solely from rt

you should watch and read news from both parties, i myself follow turkish, european, arabic and russian news. i have also been watching political analyst panels, international discussions and the interviews of different political party leaders involved in the war from the last 15 years, mostly because the events in turkey are tied quite closely to the syrian war and i want to keep informed

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yhlbk6ACrS8
here is one recent video from 3 days for example, there are both pro-ypg, somewhat-anti-ypg and neutral parties offering their views on the kurdish question. its quite informative for a person that does not know the stance of different factions on the issue i think
