Environmental issues are big deal when constructing anything of size. The wall will fragment habitats and migration routs. That's expected. None of the animals John mentioned will go extinct or anything though. Jaguars hardly ever wonder into the US anyway. Yeah, some animals will have their habitat fragmented, but many of the environmental claims are likely exaggerated. I have written Environmental Impact Assessments, we exaggerate everything.
Yeah, immanent domain might suck for some of the people living on the border in Texas. The border land should probably not have been privately owned in the first place though. Even though some of these people will not be happy about the wall, most Texans want the wall. 1. Its practicality, the simplicity of it, is what will make it so effective. It solves a complex set of problems with an easy and effective solution.
