I guess the only way to tell if it's actually able to think is if it is capable of creating revolutionary new ideas that have never been thought before.
That would be proof that it was able to crunch information and come up with an idea.
But even then it would be open to debate whether it was real thought or just an imitation.
I feel that's the barrier though.
For now we just have copy cat bots who copy the ideas they are given and can remix them a little.
But when we have one come up with a truly original thought never thought before or not pushed via outside influence we don't have 'real' artificial intelligence, only convincing artificial intelligence. (or unconvincing when it fails)
