I have a legal background in Canada and do some research work for high profile cases here and this is my take:
Ghomeshi totally did it. He is absolutely guilty. However, the actions of the women who brought the charges undermined their own credibility to such an extent that the Judge really had no other options but to go with a not guilty verdict. It was quite clear that they had crafted their stories to fit a specific narrative while leaving out other aspects in police reports and this was exposed on the witness stand. In a case like this, with no real medical evidence or witnesses outside of the women who brought the charges it exacerbates the importance of credibility. Once their credibility was undermined, they were done. And they made it very easy for the defence to do so.
Ghomeshi's lawyers are very good - about as good as you can get in Canada - and the crown prosecutor is just another government employee who doesn't really have to try that hard.
It's strikingly similar to the OJ case in the sense that it's fucking obvious he did what they accused him of but the witnesses and the prosecution blew it because it was amateur hour compared to Ghomeshi's excellent legal team. He was wise to be represented by cosmopolitan women.

In University a year ago my professor had a video she wanted to show us. It was part of a panel on Canadian literature that Ghomeshi had hosted for the CBC, years before these allegations surfaced. He came with anecdotes about coal miners standing up for worker regulations in Indiana, he likened the lesbian's protest to their protests against unsafe work conditions, and explained that feeling intellectually unsafe was on par with feeling physically unsafe. He explained that the professor had been educated on trigger warnings and had been instructed to give them in future lectures.
