Think about it: this is why he places himself at the forefront of the 'women in tech' conversation, and props himself up to speak for all women- he's sort of daring them to call his bluff, to say that he's not really a woman, that he can't speak for all women. And since none of them will do that, that boosts his ego, making him believe that he convinced them, and that he really passes as a woman.
In this light, every rape threat he receives is a further ego boost- even the haters and goobergrabbers treat me as a woman! That's why he shares every threat with his Twitter followers so eagerly-- because it's a badge of honor-- 'congratulations on being a real woman'.
And in this regard, the Syfy production, having him played by an actual woman is the ultimate victory, literally the culmination of his effort these past 2 years. This is also why Wu will never come out as trans- it would forever break his illusion to be treated as a transwoman, and not as a woman.
