I don't know about Marine Regs, but AR-670-1 Veterans can wear their dress uniform that they were issued/uniform that was issued when they served at special events. There are some stipulations about that and I believe it was Veteran's Day or Memorial day so I can't specifically comment.
As for retirees you can still wear your PT Uniform if you're within grooming regs (shaved, military haircut, etc.) and dress uniform during special occasions, though if you still have dress greens you need to have a retiree patch for your unit patch and retiree unit crests.
The only people authorized to wear a duty uniform that aren't in the military are retirees while working for the DoD and medal of honor recipients.

Personally I just feel it's in poor taste to wear your full duty uniform, especially to protest an event, which you wouldn't be allowed to do if you were active duty or reserves.

They're great for a cheap ass pair of cargo pants. If you have a bunch sitting around from when you got out or just buy a few pairs for $5-$10 from a surplus store you have something you can get dirty or tear up without feeling too bad.
