>A high ranking Cruz campaign official has told Elect Leaders that Sen. Cruz is in negotiations with Mr. Trump to become his Vice Presidential Nominee after Rubio dropped out Tuesday. Sen. Cruz has been the most consistent performer in primaries behind Trump. They are seeing the writing on the wall and want to negotiate from a point of strength which will evaporate.

It's a smart move.

Cruz had a different voterbase and appeal. He also is a senator. I believe a VP should always have senate experience.

eh, gop turnouts are inflated due to shitloads of people turning out to "stop trump." a lot of those people aren't gonna vote in the GE.

Cruz doesn't want to leave the Senate most likely if he can't be President. He probably doesn't want VP either. Just wants a conservative Supreme Court nominee.
>>
>>67665285

No way he becomes VP. Cruz supporters will naturally move to Trump when he is out. Kasich has to be VP, he draws the moderates and independents. Bible thumpers will not vote Hillary.
>>
>>67665162
>have him JFK'd

She could have probably done it too. Got some random white redneck. Would've been fucked.
>>
>>67664491
If they can bury the hatchet and team up, the GOPe wouldn't have a chance at stopping them. On paper they are essentially a perfect pairing, Cruz has basically run as Trump-lite. However Cruz revealed himself to be pretty despicable on the campaign trail, which is weird because he seemed like such a nice guy before the Primaries got started. I might be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt if it was all his scummy campaign manager's idea, but I don't know.

Either way, this would likely be an alliance of necessity. Trump's chances at securing a majority with Cruz running are pretty slim at this point, and Cruz has to know that he has zero chance at securing a majority and would be given absolutely nothing at a brokered convention.
>>
Not reading thread. Forgive me if this has been said.

Cruz is an asshole, Trump is an asshole.
You have to be an asshole to some extent to be successful in the business/political world.

A Trump/Cruz run would fucking steamroll the GOP.

Trump is a master deal maker. If he can get Cruz to drop about the nomination is sealed. And now he can start to focus on Hillary early with the true conservative base behind him as well as all the new nationalist voters.
>>
>>67664491
The second he appoints an establishment dude as VP, he'll win the election and then be assassinated in a week.
>>
>>67664616
I agree it's messy and if this is true then you can be certain the media will go nuts with headlines about how two men who have been calling each other liars have teamed up, but it's literally the only way Trump can hope to reel in the evangelical, conservative far right and build a fully functional coalition against the left.

Right now we're looking at a situation where each candidate that drops out takes their voters with them and goes home. Trump needs Cruz supporters, he won't win with the Republican party so fractured.

You know if Trump does get assassinated most of his most public policies will be championed as legacy pieces? LBJ scuttled the fed stuff but the Vietnam War, the Space Race, the Civil Rights Act, all were implicated as inspired by JFK and all were pushed by LBJ. Notice that it's a "Cruz campaign official" saying this.

Unfortunately for him, Trump has no reason to accept his offer now. He might as well wait and watch Cruz's support sink even further.

Right. Because, surprise, surprise, he was a business man and it was his duty to advance his businesses and wealth as much as possible given the rules established by our government. He made a fortune off of working those rules.

Which begs the question, why would someone who's made a fortune worming within the structures of the establishment want to change that and enact policies which pressure businesses to change the way they conduct themselves? Why would an "establishment" candidate ever do that?

The clear answer is that Trump has worked within the establishment and now, out of moral conscious, wants to change it for the betterment of a country he loves. Fuck off with this "he is the establishment" nonsense. He's the only one that can be trusted when he says he wants to oppose the establishment. He has little to gain outside of moral satisfaction and everything to lose.
