it's not gonna give you 25% of all your savings mate, only on the amount of "new" money you put in each year, so you'll only be able to get max £1000 if you can afford to put £4000 in every year, which you can guarantee most young people wont be able to afford
>>
>>67649949
Me too.

Every study points the key difference between the poor and wealthy is how much they save.

Lefties will moan how they cannot afford to save because housing is too expensive but you will never change your wealth-class without making sacrifices

although i agree that young people ain't saving money anymore it's also stupid that if you are earning an average wage it can take you the best part of a decade to save up enough to get a house in or around a city, with a large mortgage, and only then if you are saving 50% of your pay check. we are reaching a point where people will only be able to afford houses after their parents die and leave them houses they can sell
>>
>>67650099

Even if you only put in £100 you still make £25 free out of it.

How in the name of fuck can this be a bad idea? It's free money.

I'm on 18k a year in London with 600 quid in rent. Even I can put away 400 a month
>>
>>67650099

I've already put 850 quid into an ISA this year and I'm aiming for ~3500 by the years end. If the government give me 25% of that I'll be chuffed. Lifetime ISA is a good thing for sensible mid-20s who have decided to stop spunkinf their money away

if you are renting a place that can mean you are spending £700+ a month, most people can't afford to do that

Bullshit.

>>

50/30/20 budget will mean you should be putting away 300 if you earn 1500 a month. If you're living above your means then move to a cheaper place.

Fair enough, in your situation it makes sense since it's quite cheap and you're earning a fair amount.

My rents only 500 a month for a terraced house and I share with my gf so it's only 250

I earn 22k and she's on 26k.

But if I was in London fuck it I'd be sharing with every fucker I could see. Fuck London rent

You're getting a "return" on other people's earnings

The government doesn't create wealth, it only takes it from revenue generators. Any "bonus" will be derived from other people's income. Essentially it's just another redistribution of wealth, and does nothing to solve the pension problem.
>>67653727
Explain how I'm wrong. Money doesn't miraculously fall out of the sky.

Brits have become so used to welfare that they don't even realize when they're on it.

Get an etrade account, or your equivalent in the UK, and invest your money on something that gets a return on a sum greater than £4000 yearly. Relying on the government to only get £30,000 on the back of another income earner is a waste. You could get better returns on the S&P index if current projections are correct.

No matter how much of an edgelord you might be, the government wouldn't just give up on those with no insurance, so we would be collectively paying, even if just for very basic level of care. Might as well pay a bit more and have the all-encompassing behemoth we have now.

While he might be way off base on the cost aspect, he is right about that.

It's not going to solve anything so long as there is this massive safety net to protect people from their stupid decisions. If we tax/ban everything unhealthy then pretty soon we're a no-fun-allowed even-more-nanny totalitarian state because big neigh soviet government programmes like that do not mix with freedom because people doing what they want without consequence means either you're paying for it or you need to restrict their freedom, or you go halfway with a punishment tax and it just drives these people into the hands of organised crime.

The problem lefties forget/ignore as always is culture. The reason why people are fat is because self restraint has gone.

In scandinavia people still have self restraint, which is also necessary for social democracy to work. In asia people have self restraint and quite strong peer pressure too.

People aren't fat because unhealthy food is cheap. Unhealthy food is much cheaper in Korea. All taxing sugar does is punish people are being bad without moving any responsibility onto them. It is the infantalisation of a country, it is *literally* a nanny state.

>What does it have to do with the government? Let me guess: muh feelings

If you can't see how that would be a PR bombshell for any government, one or two people dying in the street with no healthcare, I think you might be autistic.

This is what gets me about /pol/, it's all fart (policy ideas) and no poo (actual policy implementation).

It's actually quite a big change. The schools still have to follow the national curriculum but how they go about it will be up to them and they are allowed to raise money on their own.

Puts a bit of competition into the system which should improve standards. Means no more shit like no child left behind and other similar government interference too beyond the occasional inspection.

Well... that's the right way to "raise standards" then isn't it. I really, really hope you are wrong there about not needing a teaching qualifications.

Seeing as they would be self governing for the most part that might be technically true, much like a company can hire someone with no qualifications if they want to.

Well standards have been decreasing since the late 1970's. I am going with it won't raise
standards at all.

On self governance, well that's going to comedown to money, as usual.

That's what happened in the 70s. This proposal would effectively reverse that decision and allow selection again.

It will be a tax on ISPs though so you won't even know you're paying :^)

We should tax cyclists since bicycles don't pay road tax it's basically a tax loophole :^)

People who buy sun lotion should be taxed since sun exposure causes 90% of all skin cancer it's affecting the NHS :^) we can put the price on top of the lotion it will be like you're aren't paying :^)

Uhhh, hello? Taxing coke put the price up so of course orange juice is cheaper. I'm saying we should tax orange juice so it costs the same as coke to subsidise a price cut in coke for those who are literally addicted to it. Do you support big business or something? We can put the money back into education so less people drink coke.
>>
>>67662777

Coke isn't big business in the UK anymore m8, less people buy it now. Coke businesses have been hit pretty hard by the tax. There's 2000 jobs on the line. Orange juice manufacturers have taken over the marketplace with the help of government tax breaks. How else do we readdress the balance? Whatever the solution is, it's going to cost you taxpayers a pretty penny to put right.
>>
>>67662815
No, I mean orange juice is cheaper right now. Coca Cola is already pretty expensive, especially since they switched to the 1.75 litre bottles. But it's just as bad for you as coca cola.
>>
>>67663424
So since orange juice is just as bad as coke we should tax it so they're equally expensive, right? That way people will be equally put off making bad choices.
>>
>>67661071

Taxing things is a temporary solution. Education as always is key, but unfortunatly you can't fix stupid.
>>
>>67663642
>you can't fix stupid

You can but these days people call that unethical...
>>
>>67663567
No, neither should be taxed as that's useless social engineering that doesn't solve the problem and just makes business and life harder. I'm just pointing out that if you're trying to tackle obesity, orange juice is as bad for you calorie and weight wise as Coca Cola.

I pay the top rate of tax so I'm paying more into your NHS healthcare. Therefore my opinion matters more. You should eat and drink what I tell you to. I say we tax orange juice to bring it into line with coke.

btw, if you ate a burger this week you opinion is automatically invalidated.
>>
>>67663774
This. You can easily fix stupid, but you need to be nasty.
>>
>>67664024
I didn't eat a burger this week, I don't eat fast food and your opinion doesn't matter more. It matters the same as anyone else in this country. Certainly not more than mine as I also pay the top rate of tax. However, payment of tax does not mean your opinion matters more.

More like manditory military service for two years between the ages of 16-18. Will drive some diciplin into them and mature them for further education.
If a conflict ever came around we'd have a large percentage of the population already trained for combat.
Would also force the pakis to conform.
>>
>>67664275
they'll say it's against their beliefs or some shit like that.
>>
>>67664245
>However, payment of tax does not mean your opinion matters more.
Yes, it does. If you're paying more into the system to subsidise people who aren't paying as much then naturally what you think matters more. We should basically control what the lower classes eat and drink via taxes and heavy levies. They will make the right "choice" then. Where's your empathy?
>>
>>67664275
Spare a thought for the poor instructors at Pirbright and Catterick having to deal with millions who don't want to be there. Not to mention we would have to build huge amounts of new barracks and facilities to house all of these new recruits who would really be prevented from entering the workforce for another two years and would lose the time to develop key technical skills.

The Military exists to employ lethal force in service to the Crown and its Government. Anything that impedes that task, like say, playing nursemaid to millions of idiots, is not in its interest. Instead, we need to go back to the old system of largely self-funded Volunteer groups and Militias working in conjunction with the Army Reserve if we wanted to do such a thing.
