The shit has hit the fan here, everyone is trying to save himself from the jail, no one knows if Lula has become a minister so he can save himself from being prosecused, our president has to choose if she is going to save her good friend (Mercadante) or her boss. (Lula).

But the police wants to prosecute Mercandante while Delcídio is arrested and practicing delation, so when he goes to the jail he can at least stay at home.

Behind it all we have a party (PMDB) trying to change brazilian constituition to parlamentarism so that this party can gain more power.

It is happening just after a 4 million people protest. LOL
>>
Should make a TV show about it.
>>
>>67523942
parlamentism doesn't sound bad though, or is it just a buzzword for bad things
>>
>>67524156
The parlamentism that PMDB wants is not actual parliamentarism, it is a "mix" presidecialism and parliamentarism, which they are calling "semiparlamentarism". It is going to be voted tomorrow. They just want more power and save everyone.

Because the operation that is putting everyone on jail (Lava-jato) will go into another law instance called STF. STF is bought by the politics, so they will get away free from the prosectors accusations.

If this happens people will go crazy here, you can expect blood and death, that's for sure.

>>

People makes "jokes" about killing than, but the truth is that everyone would love that to happen.

But we conscience that they can't die yeat, because the Lava-Jato operation is about halfway through, it is phaase 25 out of 46(i think). It means that it is halway through and the president is about to suffer impeachment.

There are a lot o shit to uncover, the Lava-Jato operation can't change its instance, the STF will kill it. We want the STF judges to go to the jail too.

If Lula, his son and his wife go to the jail, they will probably call for delation, because they are going to die in the prision, and that would be a major victory helping to finish brazilian corruption. Everyone would go to jail.

Each time a news about Lula prision get popular the dollar values gets down, meaning it is good for our economy. The marketing wants Lula on jail.
>>
Oh boy, nothing beats a good old South American Corruption Scandal.
And when it happens in Brazil, you can be sure that everybody in the continent is involved.

What happens if Lula becomes a minister? Is he immune to prosecution?

Basically, the only instance that can judge him is STF, which is bought out by PT. So yeah, if he become a minister he is basically "saved".

We have a leftist party extremely strong here, most people who has university degrees, history and geographic teachers, militants, they all make communist and socialist propaganda since we are in high-school, these people gave too much power to the politicians, because for some time people believed that USA was a bad thing that was controlling our economy and destroy everything so they can control us easily.

What do you think of Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn? If you don't know shit about it, I recommend picking up Liberty or Equality and Leftism Revisited. The best to describe his work in short summary is this: "Kuehnelt-Leddihn often argued that majority rule in democracies is a threat to individual liberties, and declared himself a monarchist and an enemy of all forms of totalitarianism."

He argued that democracy isn't inherently liberal in the classical sense of the word. And Monarchy isn't inherently anti-liberal.

I'd rate it 9/10. I'm still for a Republic, wouldn't mind a Monarch though.

Brazil is one of the most race-mixed Latin American countries.
>>
>>67531637
Well, we are the biggest economy of South america, São Paulo alone is responsible for half of the entire latin america GDP.

We are the 8th/9th economy of the world, one of the most populous country in the world (about 250 millions) the fifth biggest territory in the world.

We are facing Russian communist agents since the fall of monarchy/Bragança family by the Republicans, after communism spread out in Latin America brazilian feared the same thing would happen to Brazil, which lead to a militairy anti-communist dictatorship. This dictatorship was excellent for the economy, Brazil has become industrialized, but a dicatatorship is still a dictatorship.

The leftists/communists fought against the dictatorship until it and it has fallen, which led to the creating of the "New Republic", the communists knew that brazilians wouldn't accept communism, so PSDB party fixed our economy (PSDB party is considered a right-wing party, but is in fact a leftist one, they are "social democrats") so that Brazil could give money to communist country all around the globe, this money was obtained through high and shady taxes.

The group that created did this, and which PSDB and PT are part of, is called "Foro de São Paulo". Well, around 2010 this "secret organization" went to public, because a philosopher called Olavo de Carvalho, who has been investigating this issue for a long time showed the truth to everyone.

So, since 2010 right-wing party started to organize itself, it lead to the creation of MBL(Movimento Brasil Livre - Free Brazil Movement) and Revoltados Online (Outraged Online) which are the organizers of the brazilians prostets since 2013. They are libertarians/free market supporters.

The first prostest that lead to our situation right now was started in 2013 by leftists that were protesting against bus tax, which was raised by 0,20 cents, but the right-wing took control of the protests and we never stop since than.

What the fuck are you smoking?
We have more in common with the Anglos and the Italians than with the Spaniards. (Let alone the Philippines)

And I speak from experience, I've been to all three places. The football and rock culture (not to mention the rugby) is much more similar to our own in Britain than in Spain.

There are NO Iberian countries in Latin America. Argentina is too Italian (and has other European and South American influences) to be called properly Iberian, while the rest of the continent is too native- or African influenced.

You went to other countries but never visited the interior? The same families that governed in the 1800s are still there to this day, and all their tradition dates to back the colony

Buenos Aires has undeniable Italian influences, but claiming that we are a culturally italian nation is ridiculous. Just look at how many surnames you had in the voting polls.

I don't know what the fuck you mean with rock culture, I'm a music collector and know the entire history of our music scene. The last time we had anything to be with the brits rock wise was in 1965 with the beatle copycat bands, by 1969 we were radically different in style thanks to the Cueva scene, the only influence we later got was from brit imported ska culture

Just being realistic m8... there's no denying Spanish influence is huge... but look at our culture...

Our favorite dishes (pasta, pizza, ice cream, fernet) mostly Italian. Our favorite sports (football, rugby, hockey, polo), all British.
Our accents, our surnames, our traditions (there was never bullfighting here, it was banned in the 19th century), our culture, is a huge mix from all across Europe and now South America and Asia.

That's why I wouldn't call us Iberian.
Spanish-influenced? Sure, heavily. But there's no "common Iberian culture" other than the language.

An average Argentine will know how to make a paella or tapas. But he won't eat them in his day to day the way we drink fernet.

We are a mish mash of Southern European cultures with some Northern Euro and Native thrown in. Saying we are "Iberian" is a huge stretch.

The president can create a "law" with immediate effect called Medida Provisória which allegedly should be used for emergency but they use it all the time. The legislative power must vote later for the continuity or the end of this act, but it usually takes months. The executive can also block new laws from the legislative, forcing it to be voted again needing 2/3 of the votes instead of 1/2.

All three powers in brazil actually have a little of everything. Judiciary can also effectively create "laws" as well, and the executive with help of the legislative can choose ministers for the supreme court which are the only ones capable of judging the members of those both powers.

Compare British hooliganism (barrabravas) to the mild chanting in the Spanish Liga. That's what I'm talking about.

>I have never had dissonant values with any south american in my life, even chileans who are considered the most "different" of the continent.
It's funny because my experience was the opposite. Chileans and Uruguayans are a vbad example, they are VERY similar to us culturally.

However I've been to Peru, Venezuela and Mexico and I've found the culture to be radically different. That's why I don't think there's an "Iberian" culture.

If anything, there are Western Latin American countries, those that are "Westernized" (in between), and then there are those that aren't culturally similar at all.

>However I've been to Peru, Venezuela and Mexico and I've found the culture to be radically different. That's why I don't think there's an "Iberian" culture.

I think we don't have the same definitions for culture.

I find latin americans, and at some degree, to have the same moral and social values we have. Ask any south american for advice or their ideas in a topic and the responses will follow a similar trend. We treat religion, corruption and social issues in similar ways, even if we are superficially different.

Hell I vacationed in the USA and I could easily distinguish latinos of all SA from gringos just by they way they talked - and the fact that we filled the house with latino families from all the continent and and you wouldn't distinguish them unless you asked.,

Same with the gringos, anglos, aussies, etc. They all have similar cultural values and are sharply different from ours, to the point things that are normal to me piss them off and viceversa.

The protests are because all the government is involved in 12 years of pillage of the largest public company of the country, Petrobras which now has debts over twice it's market value (and probably many others, that's just the focus of lava-jato police investigation), and masked economics numbers at cost of the economy itself to be reelected, while making promises she knew wouldn't be possible and doing the opposite, which she accused opponents of doing, the instant she won by barely above 50% of the votes.

And with the unfavorable global market the retarded economic policies they insist so much will only make recovery much harder.

Exemplo seriam os médicos cubanos, dos serviços de atendimento que conheço em algumas cidades do interior do RS, todos dizem que o atendimento dos cubanos é melhor do que dos médicos brasileiros. western is a very superficial group. Almost all Europe is western and they have radically different cultures (when they don't bend over for their german overlords), it isn't really valid beyond describing europeans as a whole

we've been in recession since late 2014 (two consecutive semesters with negative gdp growth, pic related), 2015 was 10 times worse we are just waiting on the consolidated data and 2016 will for sure be another year of recession because with the political crisis the congress is doing nothing to adress the economic crisis which right now puts us on serious risk of default

our debt/gdp ratio has balooned since 2013, we need to pass some comprehensive welfare reform and better the business environment but that's so fucking impopular in this populist socialist shithole these measures will never pass in the current scenario, so they'll just foot the bill with tax hikes eventually (that giant baloon duck in the protests), for the third time in your recent history

these tax hikes happened in 64 (military dictatorship) and 92 (neoliberal opening) already, these were both times of similar grave political and economic crisis, so I'm expecting history to repeat itself soon even though right now we are living the worst crisis in our history, both politically and economically

expressive growth (>1%) is not expected until 2018 when new elections are held, even then nobody knows yet what the fuck to do to boost growth again, we are in no position to assume relevant positions in global supply chains, we are a nation of uneducated dumbfucks living on welfare, we gave a shit ton of money to a few corporations trying to create our own chaebols but they are all failing, lula rode his popularity wave but introduced no relevant long term reforms, he wasn't even able to develop some decent infrastructure (b-but muh hunger)

we are literally fucked, we'll get taxed outta the ass again, the economy will take a turn to extreme left (protectionism) or right (liberalization) depending on who wins the election in 2018, either we'll struggle immensely and this will be it until another commodity boom arrives while the corruption scandals keep unfolding for the next decade

Let me put it in simple terms... I've felt more at home in Italy than in Peru. And yes, Western is a superficial term, but still valid.

Peru or Venezuela felt alien to me, with strange foods, customs and people. I could understand better the Italians than the strange slang in Venezuela (mamaguevo, vaina, carajitos). Eventually I learned the slang, but it was actually a harder adaptation.

Chile is a whole other story. Chileans speak funny but they are just like us otherwise.

The management of the economy was worse than the corruption:

Brazil had low unemployment and an inflation of about 6%. The government decided to increase growth by: increasing deficit spending, decreasing interest rates and depreciating exchange rates. As anyone that has studied Macro 101 knows, when there is no lack of demand (as shown by the law unemployment and high inflation), those policies will at the same time not increase growth (except in the very short run, eventually the GDP will fall to normal levels) and will increase inflation.

And so, as anyone that has studied Macro 101 would expect... Growth did not increase but inflation did.

The government decided to control inflation (in an election year) by controlling energy prices (which led to huge government expenses and reduced investment in the sector) and oil prices (which ended up harming Petrobras more than corruption did).

Not only that, they had a very activist industrial policy. Some sectors got benefits like subsidies and import barriers. Some got subsidies to buy competitors, creating huge companies. The aim of the government was to induce then to invest. As expected, since competition was reduced in those sectors and it was more profitable to pay politicians to get subsidies than investing in productivity, no one invested in increasing productivity. No productivity increase, no growth.

The government tried to fix those mistakes last year, by hiring a Chicago grad called Joaquim Levy. As it turns out, he was powerless to do anything, since he didn't get political support from the Ruling Party, since the policies to fix the situation are unpopular. And this is the situation.

see amerifats that's why you need the 2nd
our government has less than 10% of approval and yet they know nothing will happen with them because they don't fear the people
i've said this several times, Brazil is a huge social experiment testing the limits of passiveness of the population

Privatizing now is easier, since most state owned companies are public companies. The state would just need to change the governance of the company and sell its shares in the market.

Bros, just keep this thread going, cuz I'm having some hard laughs. I knew right-wingers were kinda lunatic, but not on suicide watch as I'm seeing here.

Useful information to gringos: our country is passing through economical and political crisis, but just like another latin country, this is our bad season. Situation here is shit (as usual), but we have been worse in the past (see 80's and part of 90's). We will get over it.
For now, we will to deal with the consequences of the stupidity of Dilma's administration, pixulecos, Lava-Jato, and our anecdotal political circus, the last doing it's best since redemocratization.

For sure, the economists are talking about 3/4 years of recession. And after that the recovering will be slow. But if the semi-parlaimentarism gets aproved... I'm not sure anymore, we could become a socialist country.

We could have a civil war, a military intervention, or things could stay the same. But everyone is tense, people are breaking up friendships, people are shouting at each other, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter has going crazy with people saying shit to each other non stop. It's a ideological war.

News is all about corruption, with fifty minutes long explaining the stuff that is happening.

Socialists are pushing socialism even harder. There are monarquists, libertarians, coversavitives and people who wants military intervention, all fighting all-over each other (Even thought everyone are fighting against communists at the same time, lol)

The so called "right-wing" by the socialists, the PSDB party, were thrown away from the protests, being called names because they never stood up as a opposition. The men from this video are the São Paulo government, Geraldo Alckmin, and the oppositor to Dilma Roussef, Aécio Neves, who in the last elections had about 40% of the votes.

Yeah, someone who had 40% of votes was thrown away from the prostests. People usually say that we are voting for someone who does less damage.

I guess it's a personal thing. I understand them alright because our communications are very context heavy, and generally feel at home with them

Perhaps you are one of those families that's very heritage heavy. Have a friend that has the same thing for brits-

Yeah, we have a chance of arresting them, and this will only affect the country next elections (or later, who knows).
But the people getting prosecuted in Lava-Jato are just the tip of situation, and that's the problem with the whole investigation. If we arrest everyone, the Congress would be almost empty in the next day, and our big companies would be out of the market too.
This corruption network is more dated than average people knows.
