The reasons given were:
1- it helps to identify the students either if they get in an accident or if they do hooligan crap.

2- it helps homogenize the student body so poor kids don't feel like shit because they're poor.

This was attempted once back when i was in 1-4th grade. The material from which it was made of was tearing very easily, then not to mention the horrible tailoring. People stopped wearing it after a month and it was really fucking expensive too. And it was mandatory.

This is not just for socialist reasons, but also to provide a sense of unity that you belong on the same team. Time after time it has been shown that student uniforms decrease bullying and increase teamwork. This is why the best private schools have them and why many profit oriented businesses have them.
