At the convention, humans called "delegates" cast their vote for who will be the nominee of the party.
Primary Voters are voting to select who those "delegates" will vote for at the convention.
A "brokered convention" is when the delegates get together and decide amongst themselves to support someone other than the person the voters have appointed them to select.
They used to have to wait until the second ballot at the convention to do this. Thus, if Trump (or anyone else) got 1,237 delegates, they could win on the first ballot and stop the second, preventing a "brokered convention" situation.
This year, however, the GOP (Republican Party) changed the rules, and now the delegates can vote for whomever they want (irregardless of who the voters selected) even on the first ballot.
