Women can support themselves now, there's tons of research indicating that having kids makes you less happy. Marriage as an institution has fallen apart due to no-fault divorces, alimony, custody laws and child support. Besides the tax benefits, it's virtually meaningless. You might as well just date considering how divorces are becoming as commonplace as break-ups.

The only responsible white people I know who are having kids at a young age (under 25) are young military officers. They've got decent salaries, but when you add in all the benefits of being in the service (housing, commissary, tricare, cheap recreational events, etc.). I just think that there needs to be a separation of marriage from the state. Marriage should be a purely religious decision and the state should issue civil partnerships for both gay and straight couples.
That way people could be united in a completely secular way and religious institutions would be able to define their marriage protocols however they wanted to.

The reality of it. Biological kids pretty much never ruin relationships. By that I mean, kids that are related to both parents.
