The US estimated that there were only 30,000 ISIS. So by their estimates, almost 2/3 have been killed. Not even counting the wounded or those died fighting Iraqis or the SAA or killed by Russia. Damn, Russia are you even trying? There are probably like 20 ISIS fighters left right now.

I'm suspicious of the relative ease with which Kurds are advancing. Not to take away from their success, but ISIS appear to have abandoned strategic positions in favor of fighting the SAA at Maheen, Palmyra, Kweires, Deir ez Zur?

They've just lost one of the most important Euphrates crossings and from the videos it just appears like they left their positions. At the same time they are literally being decimated at Deir ez Zur and they keep attacking for no purpose, and in Eastern Homs for control over a couple of towns and lots of desert.

Anyway, as I suspect the ISIS leadership are in fact CIA/Mossad affiliated, they're purposefully pushing back on fronts which are strategically less important for them, but very important for western coalition. To minimize Assads potential gains since he will probably have to give the Kurds what they want at the end of the war.

Also, SAA is ineffective, but much better than 3 months ago.

You want a laugh?

>The argument for arming Ukraine has absolutely nothing to do with neocon conspiracies, knee-jerk interventionist impulses, aspirations to spread democracy indiscriminately around the world, or a pathological obsession with keeping Russia down. Securing Russian cooperation internationally will not come from pandering to Moscow’s selective and self-serving “Russia as victim” narrative, but through a dawning Russian realization over time that their current course dooms them to enmity not only with the West, but with their ostensibly fraternal post-Soviet neighbors. Russia has embarked on a path to isolation, deprivation, chronic conflict and decline. The case for arming Ukraine is rooted in a clear-eyed, unsentimental recognition of this dynamic. In short, it is rooted in realism.

Isis collapsing much? Not proposing it as an alternative analysis. Simply thinking aloud, if they lose the peripheries, they lose their supplies and revenues. Retreating, as you suggest they might be, and must be, to concentrate on a few locales is surely a dead end.

Even a political outcome seems difficult to contemplate - USA recommending that someone negotiates with terrorists? I guess ISIS could rebrand into childrens hospital jihadi's. I can't see how it's anything other than the begining of the end

In my opinion is a rebranding operation.
Namely isis territories will go to pro-western kurds while displaced jihadis will join the groups that are in the moderate freedom fighters lists that will officially partecipate to the ceasefire/elections/""peace process"".
It's the best political outcome.

What's the purpose of ISIS? To be an ally? No. It was to be a bogeyman. A reason to get public opinion on the side of war. Side benefit, a honeypot for local extremists.

The cartoonish executions, killing disabled, babies, raping and pillaging etc. What purpose does it serve other than propaganda for western media consumption. This bullshit story that they want to provoke the west into a war, they already had a war for the previous 10 years in Iraq, yet while the US troops were there, the sunni tribes sold out for cash. So thats bullshit.

Anyway, I assume the plan was, get the public angry, then propose a proper war against ISIS - which will just disappear under a little pressure, and then just continue to Damascus - two for the price of one.

Putin fucked up their game, he was more nimble and got in at the right moment to steal the limelight and make use of the propaganda against ISIS for his own goals.

So, what's the next move? ISIS is finished, they are just useful idiots now, don't want to get rid of them too soon but it's over. Their role has been greatly reduced to simply keeping Assad and the Iraqis occupied while a new player is deployed.

So now the Kurds are taking center stage, ISIS is suspiciously letting them advance towards their heartland while fighting on multiple fronts which serve no strategic significance. This is annoying the Turks, not sure what the long term plan is, apart from limiting Assad and Iran.

>>
>>59430094
No need for links. How do you think the Kurds managed to win in Kobane? ISIS was advancing almost undeterred. The US was hitting them with airstrikes for over a month and ISIS was still advancing. It wasn't until they got reinforcements from a certain group that they completely changed the tide of battle and captured huge chunks of ISIS territory. The PKK reinforces them constantly to this day. Just before the recent Kurd advances there were reports of massive Kurdish convoys coming in from Turkey to reinforce them. It should be quite obvious that the PKK affiliated militants are pretty much running the war at this point.

The Chetnik is correct. Americans had the Iraqis give up Mosul so as to create an ISIS presence in Iraq solely for the purpose of using ISIS as a force destabilizer in the region.

Push ISIS into Syria (already done) in the name of 'fighting terror' and get them to go all the way to Damascus, then eliminate ISIS.

To stake out the kilomeme expected collapse multiplier (or kec'm;) theorem:
1. continual meat grinder effect on all points of contact - own forces, allies forces
2. air raids into the areas controlled by any buffer troops - weakening the manpower and number of positions for future fronts closer to the centre
3. cutting of revenues, squeezing of supplies
4. very effective decapitation of the leadership of affiliates who might have made the transition to politics credibly - certainly any new leaders have inherited a sinking ship and few options, and they have no name.
5. Constant increase in troops from Iran, Iraq & direct action from the Kurds - over and above that which ISIS is able to manage ( I would assume)
6. Russian logistics, rations, supplies, armaments, no flyzone, tanks etc.

The cell wall has ruptured, and the sap of it's functions are dissolving.

Sure, they don't want to lose ground and appear to be losing. But, the operation to capture Tishrin dam was on twitter all last week, I mean if it's on twitter that means they were probably massing troups for weeks.

And then ISIS just abandon their only crossing on the Euphrates? The same ISIS who are fighting to the death in Maheen for example. Why? So they can keep a Christian town of no significance? Very suspicious. They're just canon-fodder.

I'll tell you what's extra weird. The whole Paris attacks + aftermath. Look at the British reaction for example. It just looks really strange. The vote to bomb in Syria makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. (bomb who? why? everyone else is already bombing, what's the point).

The only way it makes sense is if you ignore the Russians. So if you imagine Putin didn't exist, and Syria was in the same state as in August 2015, then the whole charade would make sense.

I'm mentioning this because it just looks scripted. It's as if the attacks in Paris and consequences were planned. Problem, reaction, solution type stuff. In that context, it's extra weird how these powers are incapable of altering their plans, so much so that they go ahead with a preplanned set of events even when another player has disrupted the game.

I'm not sure Obama is the bad guy in this. I think his dithering is actually an attempt to derail the train which was firmly on track to smash Damascus. When he resisted on the chemical weapons false flag, ISIS suddenly became prominent. Every time he dithered, some unseen force upped the stakes.

One can only speculate. The ISIS stuff is clear cut. All Assads enemies benefit from that. Also Iraq is destabilized (ie Iranian friendly Iraq).

So lets say the Russians see through the ISIS charade, a problem created to cause a reaction and lead western public opinion to the solution - military intervention.

Putin seizes the day, and starts his military campaign before the west can carry out their plan, disrupting it, and basking in the propaganda victory "Putin smashes ISIS".

However, the Paris attacks still go ahead, and the reaction to them is exactly what one would expect in the scenario before Russia got involved. So ISIS shoots up Paris, Holland turns into Napoleon and the UK follows right behind them. With Russia already bombing in Syria, the whole thing looks strange.

Before Paris, the Russian jet is bought down. Someone really has a perverse fetish for bringing down airliners recently. Not sure who benefits. Maybe someone was testing Russian resolve. In fact the event gives Russia a more legitimate position, no one will question their involvement and the attacks in Paris cannot be used as a carte blanche since more Russians died than French.

The ISIS bogeyman has become a problem since Putin is skillfully making use of anti-isis propaganda to show Assad as a viable alternative. Someone went overboard with the execution videos making ISIS a little too unpalatable. So, the west is pivoting to the Kurds at this point. Erdogan is probably having a stroke at the prospect of a Kurdish state, so with his limited intellectual capacity he probably figures creating chaos will somehow help? Maybe by provoking Russia into a more serious conflict the Kurds lose their current role.

Putin has been very vocal about the US involvement in bringing down the Su-24, he's said that it was done at the Americans wishes. Maybe it's not a Turkish ploy to disrupt the growing Kurdish role indirectly, but a US ploy to distract the Russians?

That is demonstrably incorrect because Russia is known to build market-seeking bombs that prioritize areas with the highest density of babies and cameras with low batteries.

This also makes logical sense because if there are no more markets then bakeries would just die and the civilians of Syria will be genocided be themselves. Because of Assad and Putin, of course.

>solely for the purpose of using ISIS as a force destabilizer in the region.

Wrong. It was to push the Iraqis back onto the tit of the Americans/Saudis and not Iran. Obama was crying about the last Iraqi president being a meanie to Sunnis for years before ISIS ever existed and he needed to push the Shiite dominated Iraqi army out of Sunni areas of Iraq.

/pol/ likes to meme about Jews doing everything, but this is one of those times where the Jews and Saudis are definitely controlling things to remove allies of the Iranians.

We're in WW3; Sunni vs. Shiite, with the elites in the West supporting the Sunnis and the public in the West under attack by the Sunnis.

To me it feels a bit like the European-NATO guys are too locked into following America's lead in this stuff. They wanted to look like they were somehow responding to the situation, but because Obama has no real plan to deal with Syria/ISIS, Britain just had to kind of fumble for something to do, so they bombed Syria.

Maybe I'm wrong.

You're closer to the truth than you think.

These politicians, they have no real plan for the future. At least, nothing past the next 6 years (or whatever the term length is), oor maybe a skeletal index of ideas for a potential 12 (you never know).

More than anything, they want to be reelected, and to do that, they sort of have to make a balancing act between pandering to the fashionable opinion.

It's currently fashionable to bomb Syria for lots of reasons I tire reiterating, so they do it. A plan to stabilize the place for the next, say, 50 years is irrelevant to them, since they only need to make it look like things are working for the next few years. Lots of times, they also start up shit at the end of their terms, so as to make some grief for the next guy, just in case.

It''s nothing personal, not even about morals or greater good or democracy - well a little bit of democracy, I guess.

It's just politics.

destabilization =/= maintaining US hegemony

Libya is a complete failure of a country that probably undermines US hegemony in the region by flooding US allies like Tunisia and Egypt with terror.

It was destabilized, and the main result was Algeria -- a Russian ally -- becoming the sole military power to match Egypt in northern Africa.

The actual aim is to neutralize Iran to effect regime change. This is done by removing Syria (Iranian ally) which also breaks the chain with Hezbollah (Iranian client). Problem is that the Iraqi vacuum allowed pro-Iranian Shi'a to control a wide swath of Iraqi territory. This was compounded by the Turkish rejection of any de jure Kurdish independence in Iraq, although it is in a de facto position at present.

In the case of the Russian's, they went trough World War 1/2. Fun fact, Putin's brother died in WW2. You can't get medicine and proper nutrition so naturally your body compensates by not growing as much. WW1 & WW2 made the Russian population more resilient for fighting big wars.

Example:
Average Vietcong height was 5 feet 4 inches(1.642 meters). The average US marine height was 5 feet 11 inches.

Yes, and he was born in 1952. First few years are/were dangers back in the 50's. Typhoid, tuberculosis, and other shitty deceases you never heard of today were rampant back then.

Also, giving birth was dangerous to the point 1/10 women suffered complications in having birth. How the hell human being survive life/wars/birth is amazing if you think about it.

They are mainly guarding the base and standing ready for "rescue missions" if necessary.
But if report are true, we sometimes send artilery brigades.
We were also seen under Palmyra, probably accompanying our attack helicopters, since helicopters can't fly from Hmeimim to Palmyra all the time, they need a closer base.
