As for the nationalistic pupulation. It is teached at school. At least, it was when I was a kid. It is quite ironic when you consider we are a pretty mixed nation composed of Anatolian Greeks, Turkic Asians, Armenians, Kurds, Arabs and varying mixes of all these. Near the end of 19th century, the concept of nationalism was pushed forward so that the people ould stick together. It just sort of stuck.
