Cops are human beings, and just like you and me. They're not super humans immune to fear and pain. They don have an exceptional duty not to shoot your ass when you're posing an immediate and serious threat to them and others.
Guy had a knife, could have very, very quickly been within stabbing distance (which, I might add makes shooting him a lot harder. Unlike him, the other cops are concerned for a fellow humans safety and would be hesitant to shoot their buddy) and killed any of those cops with a single lucky stab. Killed, and or horribly maimed or injured them.
The one person who put everyone in this situation is the guy taking the pcp and wandering the streets with a knife. The cops did their job and the world is a better place because laquan whatever is dead.
