The problem with using non-temperature based methods of deducing temps is it's an indirect measurement where other variables that cannot be eliminated come into play.
When we measure temps we use thermometers and the Kelvin or Celsius scales for a reason, as they give an actual accurate measure of the thermal energy in the system being tested.
We KNOW what one degree Celsius means. It's specifically defined.
We can't accurately determine what the Celsius measurement of a system is without a direct way to see the effect of thermodynamics in a system.

America is now a net importer of food actually. It varies from year to year, and the government claims it wasn't importing Brazilian beef until recently (it lifted the ban), but it almost certainly was. And it's not just beef either. Literally AMERICAN countries such as Cargill are busy growing soy in Brazil. Most of the rainforest is being destroyed globally for agriculture. And most of that food is going to the first world. It's just hard to pin the beef specifically on America because they claim to have not been importing it, when that's almost certainly not true.
