Minnesotan here, hard for me to imagine the U of M student government doing something so shortsided. I feel that the zeal to come across as PC as possible has perverted one's own intentions.
Fun fact: 28 muslims died in the 9/11 attacks (32 counting those on the planes). Not a lot, but consider those families. How would they feel to learn that a bunch of kids, with no context or understanding of the immense pain and suffering caused by those events, denied an opportunity to pay respect to those lives out of an irrational fear that doing so may offend.
It boggles the mind how little perspective some of these kids have. So far trapped into their own echo chambers, they are unable to consider how their actions offend and hurt thousands of people affected by that day in very real, life changing ways.
