The point of the comparison is that the top 1% can just move their money out of the country if it is benefits them, which is exactly what happened in Greece.
>>
>>55520357
Glad that cavuto hit on the fact that these bernie loving idiots would drive every last drop of wealth right out of the country. It's why he has no shot of winning.

Here's a number he didn't hit on. If you take all the wealth from the top 1%, convert it to cash, and distribute it to the bottom 20%; they'll receive ~$150k each. What do you think the ROI on that would be?

I just find it funny that she didn't think to prepare for this interview... An interview with people who talk economics for a living
>>
>>55520357
>They chose her as she was a shit spokesperson adn easily beaten in n argument
>They chose her
The girl was introduced as Keely Mullen, Million Student March national event organizer. She CHOSE HERSELF, being in charge of putting her cause forward for consideration by a larger audience.

And good Christ, Mrs. Mullen got BTFO by the first question.
>and how's that going to be paid
>deer in the headlights look, hemming and hawing

She was easily beat in an argument because hers (and yours) is an indefensible idea, one that goes unchallenged when its bounced around into her microscopic echo chamber.

Or do you mean to say there's more of an argument to be had? Maybe if she wasn't some typical indoctrinated maleducated cunt who merely vomits back what her prof wants her to say for a passing grade? Maybe if we got it straight from the prof's Marxist mouth? One who was more versed in avoiding the central, probing questions and more skilled at distracting from that with invective and fallacious class-war laden rhetoric and demagoguery?
>>

Little marxists are told that just about everyone who has large sums of money inherited it. It's who they demonize most, anyway.

She goes to NEU, my facebook is blowing up with people saying how they're ashamed to go to the same school as her. Although I've pretty much just filtered any bernie supporters I know so I'm sure she has some supporters here.

NEU was the same school that was featured on Watter's World. Sadly I missed getting a picture with him but I know some kids who ran into him. We're not completely overrun by moronic leftists, but they're definitely the most vocal here.

How do these idiots exist with so much disonent logic? No wonder these people are perpetually angry and throwing tantrums.

If you're a leftist, you have gay marriage, gay adoption, dindu riots, 1st amendment infringement, 2nd amendment infringement, universal healthcare, open borders, an entire media on your side, affirmative action, war on Christians, and the list goes on but these people are only getting angrier and angrier.

The political left are acting like those spoiled children that throw tantrums in the supermarket and the mothers don't tell them to knock it off or slap them. It seems like these people are going off the rails and begging society to slap them and tell them once and for all sit down, shut up.

She and her cronies got a 15 dollar minimum wage passed by the student body for school employees last year, and the school basically laughed at them because all of the school employees are through external companies. I'm talking about the fucking dining hall staff that sit there and swipe cards, or the janitors.

Her and her cronies even have a supporter in my fraternity, which is kinda sad to me.
They have a new big thing where they're trying to garner support for adjunct professors to have a union, but they've succeeded in actually pissing off the student body enough by blocking our T stop and placing signs/stickers everywhere that I think people just want them to fuck off now.

Yes, most people are aware of severe socialist states and their habit of building fences to keep their populations locked inside, which is the natural outgrowth of your suggestion.

The thing is, folks who have much to lose are so much more ahead of the game than the average joe (who prefers to keep his head stuck in the sand, refusing to acknowledge any changing conditions around him) and won't be trapped by such measures.

Or that they might leave BEFORE you put those things in place because it takes time for them to be implemented?

Are college students a huge portion of our National GDP that would necessitate such an investment? And would that investment result in a return over time?

The answer is no.

Community college professor here.

Free tuition literally wouldn't change anything. At least half the students I teach pay NOTHING for tuition, but the cost of fees, books, and various costs still makes it very hard for these kids to stay in school. That's been one of the biggest issues in my administration since I started teaching, college fees have now surpassed tuition rates.

>out of curiosity why are states universtys so expensive?
1. Government guarantees student loans, makes them inescapable through bankruptcy.
2. Students apply for them in record numbers, even for degrees that will never provide enough income to pay same loans back, because high schoolers are fucking retarded now.
3. University administrations primarily staffed with women fell for the INFINITE APPRECIATION kool-aid before the sub-prime mortgage crash.
4. Put reverse mortgages on their existing assets to pay for facility investments.
5. Market goes belly-up and now most colleges are upside-down
6. Better bleed our students dry since they can't escape the resulting debt.

And so on

>we took the money we spend baby-sitting idiot niggers and spics in grade school

Let's do the math

Nigglets are less than 4% of the population.
College students are 3% of the population.

The K-12 cost per student is $122,000
13.2 million Nigglets x $122k = $1.6 Trillion
$1.6 Trillion / 12.2 million college students =
$132,000 per college student

The math checks out. By declaring nigglets as impossible to educate we can afford to put all current college students through 4-year degree programs provided they do not exceed $33,000 per year.

95% of them would waste it in drugs, hookers and traveling.

>On Thursday, students across the country will walk out of their classrooms and march for the right to a free college education. According to organizers, 110 college campuses across the country are expected to participate in the grassroots event.

>“Education should be free. The United States is the richest country in the world, yet students have to take on crippling debt in order to get a college education,” the organizers of Thursday’s event, dubbed the Million Student March, explain on their website. “We are united to fight for education as a human right.”

>The day of student activism comes just a few days after fast food workers in hundreds of cities held their biggest strike yet as they fight for higher wages and the right to form a union. The biggest marches are expected to be held in Santa Barbara, California, New York City, Philadelphia, Portland, and Seattle, according to Keely Mullen, one of the lead organizers of the event.

There is
1) An increasing population
2) Less jobs due to automation from new technology, outsourcing work overseas, and increasing capitalist methods of greed

Eventually these issues will increase until we're left with no choice between chaos and universal basic income. Universal basic income basically means everyone gets money just for being alive. It will bring in a completely new shift in the way people live.

You're living in the time period before this, and it might not change in your lifetime, but it's basically just a question of when it will happen. There just simply won't be enough jobs for everyone, there will be a sharp increase in welfare and government handouts as you know them today, and wealth inequality will rise to far more disgusting levels. It will basically keep happening until the system collapses from it's own weight, and the only solution is to Peter Pan the money from the small amount of people who own almost all the wealth.

That's pretty much what I'm saying. There's not much point in fleeing the US unless for China. There's just no infrastructure to keep playng the game in all those popular tax havens. There wouldn't be anything to do with that money there. Even if they move with their accounts they're going to be tied to the major economies of the world. Europe is a no go because it's worse than the US already. China is the only possibility and nobody wants to be there for at least another decade.

Follow the conversation thread. I didn't say money would flee to tax havens; that was Poland. You'd be chasing away everyone with aspirations to create wealth if you went as severe as you suggest, along with the trust fund babies against whom you've been inexplicably propagandized. I said the money would go to Europe (as long as we're playing hypothetical, wealth can flow to South America for all I care), as it already has to a lesser degree while Obama plays regulator in chief, and to other countries with strong financial draws (such as Taiwan) which would much desire to have an investment boom. To add, this above is recent history, not even hypothetical, but would pale in comparison should your cause have its full head of steam.

Besides which, your hypothetical eventuality will not occur. To wit
>Europe is a no go because it's worse than the US already
In the spirit of your unrealistic hypothetical, I can only respond with my own, and proclaim Europe's socialist experiment at an end, spurred by a political change stemming from the late immigration crisis (it would end in any case, as socialist America could no longer afford to pay for Europe's defense).

Naked socialism has been entertained several times by this country, historically speaking, and its been rejected each and every time; the ebb this time around is already apparent through the behavior evidenced by the SJW freeks and this insipid Mullen moron, who excel at turning people away from the core message they want advanced.

Saying you want the 1% to pay 90% tax makes you look economically retarded and ideologically communist - no one in America will listen to you after that.
The top marginal tax rate is around 40% but the issue is that most of the rich pay FAR FAR less than that. IIRC the average income tax paid by the 0.1% is 20% thanks to deductions and loop holes. If you focused on that as the issue you might have been able to get some people on side.

>>Comparing Greece and US

Reframe the question by point at, say, Switzerland which has universal healthcare and universities costs of around $500-1000/year at universities which compete with MIT and Cambridge. Oh and I think you misunderstood my comments on the 100% tax rate. The news anchor said that taxing the 1% at 100% would not be able to fund Medicare for 3 years purely in terms of monetary value. I was simply showing that, actually, 1 year of income from the top 1% can fund medicare for 4 years. So your 'oh so honest' news anchor was actually blatantly lying.

We know the top 1% account for 24% of all federal revenue collected in 2015. The federal government collected $3.5t in 2015, making their combined federal burden about $840b. The data I find on state and local taxes is presented slightly differently and requires different math. On average, they pay a total of approximately 5.4% of their income in state and local taxes combined. This means we can take the number of people in the top 1%, multiply by average income, multiply by effective tax rate, and get their combined burden. There is a serious mistake you make in your assumption, however. You assume the top 1% is 3m people. There are not 300m people in the workforce. The top 1% is the top 1% of income earners. Given a total labor force of 160m, this means 1.6m income earners are the top 1% and their combined state and local burden is about $70b. This gives a total existing tax burden of $910b. And how much income did they actually earn? $800k*1.6m = $1.28t.

This leaves a gap of $370b in remaining income to tax for programs which is not already taxed. Good luck.

Government education spending (K-12 and university grants) accounts for $950.8b in the US combined (federal, state, and local), of which $119b came from the federal government. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, total college spending for fiscal year 2012-2013 was approximately $500b with enrollment numbers around 20m students. If tuition were free to everyone, we could expected total enrollment and thus total cost to increase further. Let me know how you intend to either 1. Pay for this or 2. Reduce costs and then pay for it. Note, reducing costs means cutting professor salaries and increasing the number of classes they teach and students per class. Expect protests, walkouts, and strikes from both professors and student activists if attempted.

Not to mention most of their worth is on paper. If this was enacted the economy would shit itself and this net worth would drop by at least 50% overnight.

Our education system is retarded. It's bath-tub shaped when it should be a straight line.

We fund the components that matter the most (pre-K when the child's brain is developing at the most rapid rate and forming foundational learning skills and secondary education which is a prerequisite for higher-than-poverty incomes) the least, but somehow believe the middle-part alone is worth paying for.

It's a large and irreconcilable disconnect.

>why should an entire generation be indebted to these fraudsters?

They don't have to be by not participating in the system.

I think we can all agree that higher education is a fucking joke right now. If the next generation overwhelmingly opted out of going to big name universities and got educations in trade schools you'd practically see a new middle class born over night.

The problem is people thinking their social sciences and gender/identity politics majors mean something. They are still holding onto that lie of "if I get a degree there will be a job waiting for me".

The dynamic of the current economy has changed but the old way of thinking hasn't.

And watch as the value of the dollar plummets because you don't understand that prices are based off of the percentage that people can pay. If everyone just gets 150k expect prices to adjust accordingly.

All under Obama who even says it was needed.

Are they actually condemning Obama's actions?

That's a nice arbitrary graph someone pulled out of their ass. The first 5-6 years are definitely the most important for a human and parents should make a serious effort to teach their children basic things during those years. The education of a toddler should be hands on, one on one. Only a parent can provide that level of service.

If college truly has any value above K-12, it is a result of the quality of education offered and has nothing to do with human development.
>>
To a certain degree, it isn't. The great thinkers of of today and the past were individuals in innovations, not part of the collective that is churned through the education system.

>why should an entire generation be indebted to these fraudsters?

As if they won't be worse of elsewhere

If they buy a house, they're in debt for 30 years or risk foreclosure

The average student loans are basically car loans, but they're not even paying the minimum

The large bank bailout was under Bush, but Obama voted for it. Note this vote was in 2008.
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=2&vote=00213

Also note that despite the up-front cost was about $700b, approximately $500b of that was paid back because they were loans. Only the money given to Fannie Mae (government institution), Freddie Mac (government institution), and AIG will never be paid back.

The stimulus of 2009 is what occurred under Obama and a form of spending which is not paid back. That act is also what increased baseline government spending (year to year) dramatically, not the bailout. The bailout was a one-time loan program which increased the deficit by $700b for a single year and was mostly paid for in the form of banks returning the money over time. The bailout has nothing to do with the size of the deficit in 2010 and onward.

What's scarier, they can vote

Though it's good they only come out during Presidential elections. Right now there isn't some token politician running that will get the youth out to vote

Does nobody realize we can literally print money?

http://www.pbs.org/wnet/need-to-know/economy/the-true-cost-of-the-bank-bailout/3309/

12.9 TRILLION dollars was spent propping up the economy and we can't spare $1 trillion to pay for colleges?

One trillion dollars would pay for the 17 million students in the US http://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=98
$58,000 to attend college and we spent 12 times that just to prop up banks.

Waaaaah waaaaaaaah where we gonna get money to pay for this?

You republicans live in fairy land.

There is also the fact that the deep recession during that time increased the use of economic stabilizers (food stamps, unemployment insurance, etc.) as large portions of the population became eligible for their use and had to rely on them which increased mandatory spending while at the same time tax revenues took a giant hit as the economy shrank which widened the deficit all on it's own.

I've curently only had student jobs at my University, so i've never had to file taxes, but why doesn't it work like this? So people too lazy to file tax returns don't get their money and the government keeps it? Am I missing something glaringly obvious?

The IRS works for the IMF. The bulk of your taxes go straight to the queen of England, Meanwhile your city/state taxes pay for the rest.

The 26th Amendment.
>>
>>55542646
There was a combination of decreasing incomes for low-middle income earners and an expansion of the benefit program qualifications themselves. Most notably, the extension of unemployment benefits to 99 weeks, increases in SNAP eligibility, and increased SSDI use (or abuse) by people claiming to be mentally ill. There was also a short term drop in the payroll tax rate, which caused a large drop in revenue for Social Security and Medicare.

>the fucking TAX PAYER PAYS FOR EVERYTHING YOU NEET C UCK
Actually believing this bullshit lie. Damn shame you're so fucking stupid. You think shit is that transparent? Your government plays the stock market, insider trading with money they ordered the fed to print up. Your city/state taxes keep up your community and the rest goes to the queen of England. Pay your fair share serfs! Also, you don't own your own property. Your house deeds list you as tenants, not owners and your government takes your property from you if you don't pay an extortion tax every year.
