The older generation (50+) actually lived through some rough times but the rowdiest ones are all ~20 years old.

To answer your question OP, the UK ended slavery roughly 60 years before the US and even went to Africa to end the slave trade. They(UK) never had as many blacks as America had anyways, so with less of a community they had to assimilate.
