https://theintercept.com/2015/11/11/trump-was-right-about-tpp-benefitting-china/
>Donald Trump lambasted the Trans-Pacific Partnership at Tuesday night’s Republican presidential debate, contending that China would use it to “take advantage of everyone” – generating snickers from journalists and a withering refutation from Rand Paul, who said “we might want to point out that China is not part of this deal.”
>But Trump never suggested that China was part of the TPP, only that they would “come in, as they always do, through the back door” of the agreement. And he was right.
>The TPP does indeed allow China and other non-members to reap benefits from the deal without having to abide by any of its terms.
>Here’s how it works: TPP and other free trade deals allow signatories to exchange goods without tariffs. But we live in a complicated world, with source materials derived from one country often traveling through a supply chain to another and completed in a third before moving to a retail market.
[Damage Control Intensifies]
Can't stump
Stick it where it fits RAND!!! YOU GOD DAMN SHORT HAIR PRICK!!!
TPP is bad for everyone.
Trump mentioned a few moments before Paul's reply that he knew China is not part of the TPP. "It's a deal that was designed for China to come in, as they always do, through the back door and totally take advantage of everyone."
And he is correct, currency manipulation wasn't addressed in the deal.

Posting some important bits for those too lazy to follow a link.
>TPP says that all materials that go into a good, outside of a de minimis 10 percent, must derive from TPP countries. However, there are numerous exceptions and exemptions, along with a confusing set of calculations to determine eligibility. Through these cracks in the agreement, as Trump alluded, China can deliver goods to TPP countries without tariffs.
>Right now, the U.S. reserves the right to slap large tariffs on China, as it has done on steel (up to 236 percent), solar panels (up to 78 percent) and tires (up to 88 percent). But under TPP, many products, from agriculture to chemicals to plastics to leather seating, can include up to 60 percent of material from a non-TPP country.
>Each product has a specific rule of origin that sets the level of non-TPP material that can be incorporated in a good. The chapter designating which products require which percentages only lists numbers instead of product names, which have to be converted using the international Harmonized Schedule of tariffs.
>Green tea, 0902.10 on the Harmonized Schedule, can have a “regional value content” — meaning content from TPP countries — of not less than 40 percent. But that doesn’t mean 40 percent of the content; it means 40 percent of the value of the material, which takes into account shipping, processing, and many other variables. While the final calculations must follow basic accounting principles, they will be by definition inexact, so even more than 60 percent of a good, in reality, could come out of a non-TPP member like China.

>Weak rules of origin are most clearly seen in auto production, which has its own special “net cost” method of calculating rule of origin. As Teamsters President James Hoffa has pointed out, while under NAFTA 62.5 percent of a car had to be made in a member country, with TPP that number goes down to 45 percent. An additional schedule of other parts would be considered as coming from a TPP country regardless of its origins, lowering the rule of origin to as much as 35 percent. A car could even be labeled “Made in America,” despite having the majority of its parts originating from China. That includes Chinese steel, currently subject to massive tariffs for U.S. import.
>Rules of origin for textiles are allegedly more stringent, but they include a “short supply” list, allowing TPP countries to get their materials from non-TPP nations if they are in short supply within the TPP zone. This includes nearly 200 different fabrics, even certain types of cottons, any of which could come from China and get preferential tariff treatment.
>There are also loopholes available. Take for instance Article 3.6, “Materials Used in Production.” This says that, if non-originating material undergoes further production in an originating country, then that material would be treated as originating. So you can imagine a disassembled Chinese product, shipped to Vietnam, put on a production line for completion, and delivered tariff-free to the United States.

yes, he does.
WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. Rand Paul said Tuesday that illegal immigrants should be allowed to become U.S. taxpayers and ultimately get a shot at citizenship, a significant step for the Tea Party favorite amid growing Republican acceptance of the idea.
>"Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport" the millions already here, the potential 2016 presidential candidate told the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. "Prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into becoming and being taxpaying members of society."

>Q: Does a "pathway to citizenship" mean amnesty in your book?
>PAUL: I think that that's the whole point: What is amnesty? Because, [for those who say] "no deportation and no amnesty," well, if you're not going to deport people you are somehow changing the current law because the current law says everybody must go.
>Q: But you've said that the party should give up this word "amnesty"?
>PAUL: I think we need to get beyond it. We need some form of immigration reform.
>Q: And a path to citizenship?
>PAUL: Well, the path to citizenship is a longer, more difficult goal.
>Q: But you don't rule it out as an end game?
>PAUL: What I would say is that at this point in time I don't think any type of immigration reform will get out of Washington that includes a path to citizenship. But I do think that there is a path to a secure border and an expanded work visa program.
>>55479028
>inb4 they will be citizens under the visa program
The expanded visa program is quite wrong, but it doesn't imply citizenship, Rand explicitly says this
> Q:On immigration, you call your plan for creating a legal status--not citizenship, but a legal status--for the 11 million folks who are already here. But you oppose the E-verify system which would make it easier for employers to check whether their workers are legal or illegal. Why?
>PAUL: Well, that's not the main part of my plan. The main part of my plan is trust but verify, that says we have to have border security. The amendment that I will add to the bipartisan plan will ensure that there is border security and that Congress gets to vote on that border security every year, in order for it to go forward. With regard to E-verify, it's not that I'm opposed to some sort of database check. For example, when you come into the country, I think the country should do a background check on you to find out if you are a felon or if there's a problem. So I'm not against any kind of checking, I just would prefer the government to be the policeman and not the businessman.
He even dismisses citizenship for illegal immigrants
> Dr. Paul does not support amnesty. Those who come here should respect our laws. Dr. Paul supports legal immigration and recognizes that the country has been enriched by those who seek the freedom to make a life for themselves.

>they ask about pacific trade, not TPP
>the entirety of the question is about the TPP barring one point about the fact that 80% of trade is tariff free, and the deal addresses the other 20%

>claims I didn't watch the debate
>literally 100% wrong about something as simple as the question asked
his answer is literally why the deal is bad, because it doesn't address currency manipulation
>he finds it ridiculous that currency manipulation by a non member of the deal isn't discussed
he's clearly under the impression that they are part of the TPP and subsequently doesn't rebut until he has a straw to grasp at on twitter
he's uninformed and so are you
Trump is the Slayer of Globalists.

>>55481433
I remember that feel.
That's why Rand is such a huge disappointment to me. His father was one of the most decent men to run for office. Rand lacks both his personality and the courage of his convictions.
>>55473471
Oh yeah? You have proof to back that up?
He might have called Iraq, but that's it. Not to mention Iraq was obvious.

>>55481734
He's too young,
give him a decade and he'll be a good president candidate.
Ron had this sort of wisdom and critical thinking that most politicians nowadays don't have. Trump has the critical bit covered... but I just feel like he's lacking that wisdom(makes up with experience though).
>>55481768
>As a mexican how do you feel about the wall?
Wall's not going to be built, unless the USA builds it
Securing borders is necessary, specially in times of mass immigration, it's not late for the USA to secure it's borders, they're not at yurop level madness yet
Here we have problems from immigration from the central america, though the southern border it's completely unsecured (as in not even any kind of checkpoint), and they usually just try to reach the USA so they aren't much of a problem, also cartels take care of wrecking them
But I can see it becoming a problem in the near feature, some of them are actually staying in Mexico instead of going further north

Kind of pathetic, tbqhfam. You guys honestly sound as bad as Reddit when it comes to discussing politics. No wonder everyone left this shit hole and went to 8.

I uh got something I need to take care of.
>>55481785
>trump is the epitome of style over substance
He has more substance than any politician in America
- build a wall
- Renegotiate the TPP
Yes that's only 2. 2 more than any other politician (fuck we're screwed).
While I think the TPP can only benefit Australia (because china needs food... desperately), I still think it's too open for abuse and I know Singaporeans will flock here to manipulate the housing sector (already happening according to an old singaporean friend - who said their abuse of the sector in their own country fucked it up a bit)
>>55481991
>Rand takes a cheap shot at the debate
>deliberately misrepresents what Trump said
>OP posts an article that lays out facts supporting Trump's contention

I would expect this bullshit from Jeb/Rubio/Fiorina and their shills, but it's unworthy of a Paul or his supporters.
>>55472776
The TPP also fucks over a bunch of smaller companies and individuals in signatory regions, letting non signatory companies, individuals, and states out compete them, especially when it comes to IP rights and such.
>>55481946
I heard the brain drain is a huge issue in Mexico, and bigger further south - yet the economy is apparently flourishing. Why are people leaving a flourishing country to go to a dying country (economically)? Are cartels that bad?

no, I read it, and have spent more time than it deserves pointing out why it and trump supporters are wrong
Trump is an honest to god prophet. Remember his comments about Christmas being destroyed by the left? Well, look at the current Starbucks cup fiasco. Trump predicted this and he's the only one who can save us from it.

you people are retarded

Anything related to a STEM field is usually paid at least 10 times better in the USA
Though in some places it's either moving to a big city in central Mexico or dealing with cartels (which actually kidnap engineers to set up infrastructure), most prefer simply going further north

The article explicitly stated defined provisions they could take advantage of. I cited them above

>>55476955
They pretty much got Obama elected. He was cooler then McCain and thus more memeable.
>>55482000
Relax bro hes lying.
>>55482946
it lists specific things they could take advantage of
it doesn't say how it is more beneficial to china than not, which it isn't
it is a vast and comprehensive bill, to say china could take advantage of part of it is meaningless and not what he was talking to. Every country could take advantage of every part the article talks about if they aren't part of the deal
the deal itself however is more beneficial to the ingroup than those not in it
the 3.6 provision is a perfect example of it not defining exactly what the problem is and obscurely implying something even is a problem
3.6 doesn't create some new ability for china to exploit, it only permits them to overcome a new wall that is put up....a wall they didn't have to overcome before
tariffs are retarded anyway and the bill is in effect trying to get rid of them as long as there are guarantees
it is a bad deal in other ways, but to say china will benefit exclusively to the detriment of the United States is literally wrong and he was literally talking out of his ass and you're literally a shill
>>55482318

This. Dont be misled by the shills. its going to get worse and worse as we get near the election.
>>55473007
Trump could've worded it better if he meant that, certainly; probably a good overarching policy trump might want to espouse is that currency wars and embargoes are a bad set of policies to rely on, because of their effect on local markets here- these policies make things cost more and lose us jobs.
