I have a hard time believing Cider can be a fad since it's old as fuck and is more common than wine in Normandy, the part of France closest to Britain, which is also the place where the Brits come to buy alcohol in massive quantities...
Seriously, every time I visit my Grandma in Cherbourg and we go do groceries, there are dozens and dozens of Brits in the stores with carts full to the point where there is a pile higher than the sides of the carts with every kind of booze.
It's like the ferries are there just to shuttle alcohol from France to Britain...
I've always been curious about this too. Is alcohol super costly in Britain or something?

Cider is and always was popular here in the South West. It's gained a national popularity as of late and now everyone is making it for the mass market and the started making flavoured stuff and excessively sweet stuff (Stella Artois' Cidre is a good example.) Now everyone is drinking "Cider" but very few actually know what it actually is because theyre really just drinking a bunch of flavouring and sweetener. Meanwhile, despite this fad, most small cider farms have stopped producing.

The most "fancy" stuff they make is pink cider (made with apples that have red flesh, nothing added) which is drier and somewhat sweeter, pretty good.
And ice / fire cider. One is cider pressed from apples after first freeze, one is collected from apples roasted over open flame.
Both are an interesting taste but overall much too sweet (no sugar added, just the process results in a much sweeter drink. I'd say they're more like apéro.)
The only cider flavor I'd consider OK is Kyr Breton, which is Cider with black currant added.

It's the nicest-tasting commonly-available beer in my area that doesn't cost $3 a bottle, so I enjoy it.

IPA is waaay to bitter. You get used to it though when your taste buds get desensitized to the bitter taste. But the result is that other beers start to taste different.

I'd generally agree with many IPA, but there are a few that genuinely don't taste like bitter hops. To strike a good balance, you have to know what you're doing, and most IPAs are just hopped to the max to capitalize on the acquired taste.
I'd argue that pic related is one of the finest beers i've ever tasted, and it's an IPA. It has a slightly bitter taste, but the roasted taste and pine is far more prominent.

I copped this last year, and I didn't like it very well. I spent $30 for a 4 pack. I enjoyed the first one with grilled chicken on the 4th, but it was just TOO boozy. It reminded me of something meant to be a novelty, rather than for regular consumption.
