This is implying good and evil aren't mere abstractions. We already can see the variance in mortality around the world at this very moment. Some of the most horrible practices and events to the western world are done in the name of holiness in others. Carbon dating and dinosaurs disprove 95% of shit in the bible.
Neither one of my parents were religious and never attended church which was always strange to me given my dad was born in the 30s and my mom was born in the 40s, back when the church still ruled everything in Quebec at that time (ouais les deux parents sont quebecois)
Either way, I never went to church ever in my life and never had any religious upbringing and at the age of 30, I see no reason to start believing in God or practicing a religion of any sort. I just simply don't see the point in it on top of not believing in any of them to begin with.

There is no proof that god does or does not exist, neither of those things can be proven. Religions and science on the other side can be wrong. My reasoning was: god may or may not exist, if he does I'm pretty sure that he must be an entity that no human can understand, completely "alien" (diverse) from us and any way humans have depicted him. Such, in my opinion, does not care about us, we're just one of the many forms of life that may inhabit our expanding universe. So, if I'm atheist and he does not exist, I'm "fine"; if he exists he does not care if I believe in him or nor, so even if I knew he existed I would prefer to not believe in such alien and egoistic god.

It's not odd. People are just too stupid to come with morals by themselves, they need an objective moral system to guide them or they will fall prey to just rationalizing their desires and emotions.
If we were all 150 IQ(including women) and strongly magnanimous maybe things like communism and anarchy would work. Tough disbelief could still bring things like nihilism and cynicism (antinatalists for example) in that hypothetical situation. Thus godless societies are doomed to inevitably fail. If God exists he certainly has an amusing sense of humor.

Yes. Physics would hardly disprove any such thing because the idea of God is in metaphysics. The fedorafags love to keep saying "God of the gaps" even tough metaphysics, which has been the point of focus of monotheistic religions since the middle ages, is the ultimate gap.

>>55383018
They did.
Minerals have too much helium for the earth to be even 1% of the age evolutionists say it is.
Diamonds and strata have too much Carbon-14.
The sea does not have enough minerals.
One focus of the RATE (Radioisotopes and the Age of The Earth) project was radiohalos research. It was concluded that the uranium (238U) and polonium (Po) radiohalos frequently found in granitic rocks had to have formed simultaneously. This implies that hundreds of millions of years of radioactive decay (at today's rates) had to have occurred in a matter of a few days! There needs to have been that much decay of 238U to produce both the visible physical damage (the radiohalos) and the required Po, but that much Po would then have decayed within a few days (because of its short half-lives, that is, very rapid decay rates). So radioisotope "ages" for such granitic rocks of hundreds of millions of years, calculated on the assumption that radioactive decay has always occurred at today's rates, are grossly in error, and these rocks would thus have formed during the Flood year only 4500 years ago. A hydrothermal fluid (hot water) transport model was thus proposed which explained how the Po was separated from its parent 238U and then concentrated in radiocenters close by to form the Po radiohalos.
FUCK OFF if you don't know what you are talking about don't fucking talk about it.

>What age did you grow out of your euphoric atheist phase?
I was never euphoric to "be an atheist" - and I'm still an atheist and will always be an atheist. Hitler's war was against bolshevik front atheist groups in Weimar - they were not just groups of "atheists."
Hitler believed in no God nor did anyone of serious merit in the National Socialist group. Hitler didn't regularly attend church or otherwise - he hired several pagans to major government positions and the deputy fuhrer prohibited discrimination against those who don't have a faith as long as they are loyal to National Socialism.
Hitler was after Bolsheviks - the Weimar Republic's atheist groups were Bolshevik groups. Similarly, many American atheist groups are Bolshevik.
There is no deity - there's no evidence for a deity - there's ZERO reason to believe a deity exists.
The ones that do are probably too weak to think for themselves and accept the ultimate responsibility for their actions.

There is a philosopher called David Hume that makes a distinction between "ought" and "is". "Is" refers to reality, a rock "is" hard, "ought", to actions, thou "shall" not kill. We can certainly apply "ought" to our own beliefs: Should you believe X if X is false? There is nothing that says you should believe in truth, but building rockets etc that will serve other goals. Hate to burst your bubble - but Hitler hated the Bolshevik groups in the Wiemar Republic that were atheists and spreading Bolshevism in the name of atheism - not "atheists" in and of themselves.
The kind of "atheist" groups in Weimar were similar to the ones today - which relied on whipping up frenzied hatred of religion. This is a Bolshevik characteristic and not specifically an atheist one as there have been many atheists for centuries that simply disagreed with non-atheists about the existence of deities and never specifically were dedicated to overthrowing the dominant culture.
This is a Bolshevik atheist (and a Jew):

Hitler wanted to unite Germanic people, not create more conflicts among them. Hitler's priority was pure race, any means necessary.
Mein Kampf:
So basically Hitler is saying that Jew managed to split Christian religion and weakened Christianity. Modern times have even more flavours of Christianity, all run by Jews. Hitler only wanted Christianity that wasn't run by Jews(Israel), but where does that exist these days? Hitler's goal was to shake off dependence from international Jews, not to strengthen them like Americans have done. Republicans in USA use Christianity through Jews, they all go pray to their wall in Israel, then they call it conservatism. UKIP too supports Jews, exactly the opposite what Hitler wanted with Christianity.

Around 20 or so.
I'm still an atheist- I fail to find sufficient evidence for the existence of the supernatural, and refuse to include it in my worldview-
I am just not the annoying person who thinks religion "caused the most bloodshed/conflict in human historiiiiii!" or that being religious is worse than thinking you can centrally plan the economy.
>>55385683
Orthodox church isn't Germanic church, so that doesn't counts by default.
I was raised Catholic, but became an atheist around 16, 17 years of age. When I was around 21, 22 years old, I stopped. I still struggle with my faith, at least believing in the concept of "God," or the divinity of Christ, but at the end of the day I've realized that a godless society is far worse than a religious one.
>>55385782
I like your point of view
At most I was edgy atheist but I left that in my early teens. Still atheist, I don't believe in the supernatural and think it's a bit silly. That said I won't belittle someone for it we all have something in our lives we need for one reason or the other logic be damned. I do have euphoric friends though.

Islam is by all means the religion of satan.
It was a competition between God and the Devil.
Why do you think the devil is winning while Christianity dies?
Because people love their sin.

Hitler's goal was to not be dependent on anybody, that's the goal of every Socialistic country. When you are dependant on Israel or Orthodox pope then you aren't independent. Hitler wanted to control religion himself, like every Socialistic country. Religion is under any government of the world just means to rule over people, but there are other ways too. Hitler's mein kampf basically describes different ways how to control people and unite them. So yes, some Germans were Christians, then we need to unite them and control them, that was Hitler's plan. He was a leader, who wanted to lead all the people. This is what Marxism also teaches, you have many different people, you unite them and lead them, but in Socialism you don't have interracial mixing, to have this you first need to control everything, including religion. Hitler isn't a fucking pastor.

>>55386419
Of course he did, but China/Yugoslavia/Soviet Union didn't.
>>55386381
The determinism comes about not from physics but from large scale forces/environment where the small scale randomness in the universe is basically not present in the system because it averages out very quickly as you leave the quantum realm.
For example if the environment changes so that oxygen is no longer present, there is a deterministic change that will kill off every animal that requires oxygen to survive, there is no randomness or freedom to this change. If oxygen leaves the environment it will happen.
Most changes are not this dramatic, but its basically the same shit. If some pathogen evolves in the environment, organisms that are less susceptible to the pathogen will survive at greater rates, and eventually take over the gene pool, etc.

A muslim would sacrifice their life for God a prod wouldn't sacrifice a cheeto for God.
>>55386917
Can you give an example of large scale randomness (true randomness, not just extreme complexity)?
On the smaller scale randomness does have a minor effect on things, however the random change is only a part of how evolution works (in that it creates change in the first place, and most of this change is not truly random regardless), the real clincher for evolution is when the changes in the genome are exposed to conditions in the environment, and no amount of small scale randomness is going to let a duck breathe CO2, or let someone with diabetes live without insulin.
Sometimes I wish I was a dumb religious fag. I have to admit, I am attracted to the meditative quality of praying, belief in something higher than you that is looking after you which fills you with faith. Its a placebo effect that helps religiousfags reason to be more happy, more positive than atheistfags.

>>55387111
Chompsky doesnt think that, his position on institutions is that their existence should be justified by concrete benefit to people, and if they provide no benefit or are harmful they should be dismantled. It has nothing to do with Men's egos or desires (unless Ive missed something, feel free to provide a link proving me wrong), though preventing people from doing things they desire which would do no harm to anyone else might be considered a reason to dismantle an institution

Why do so many /pol/acks hate on christianity? Is the general argument against christianity the fact that christians are docile and non-violent? Is it because Islam is the more militaristic abrahamic religion and therefore has the upper hand when in comes to them invading? I kind of understand where the anti-christian rhetoric comes from but Jesus was still very anti-jew, and Christianity is basically the antithesis to Talmudic Judaism. I don't know whether or not any Gods exist, and I'm not going to waste my brains pursuing any arbitrary belief that can't be empirically proven.
However, favor religion as a means to control the masses where the government cannot. Problem is, the population ought to be religiously homogeneous so as to prevent religious strife, so which religion shall it be? Certainly not the Abrahamic religions, considering how they promote ridiculous chastity and, in the case of Christianity, weakness. Ultimately, I prefer a pagan cult that promotes strength, productivity, discipline, and (responsible) fertility.

The race of the elect suffers outrageous persecutions, and the impious race of the Saracens respects neither the virgins of the Lord nor the colleges of priests. They run over the weak and the elderly, they seize the children from their mothers so that they might forget, among the barbarians, the name of God. That perverse nation profanes the hospices … The temple of the Lord is treated like a criminal and the ornaments of the sanctuary are robbed.
“What more shall I say to you?
“We are disgraced, sons and brothers, who live in these days of calamities! Can we look at the world in this century reproved by Heaven to witness the desolation of the Holy City and remain in peace while it is so oppressed? Is it not preferable to die in war rather than suffer any longer so horrible a spectacle? Let us all weep for our faults that raise the divine ire, yes, let us weep… But let not our tears be like the seed thrown into the sand. Let the fire of our repentance raise up the Holy War and the love of our brethren lead us into combat. Let our lives be stronger than death to fight against the enemies of the Christian people.”
Do not cowardly stay in your homes
The Pontiff continued: “Warriors who hear my voice, you who will go to war, rejoice, because you are taking up a legitimate war … Arm yourselves with the sword of the Maccabees and go to defend the house of Israel who is the daughter of the Lord of Armies.

“It is no longer a matter of avenging just the injuries made to men, but rather those made to God. It is no longer a matter of attacking a city or a castle, but of conquering the Holy Places. If you triumph, the blessings of Heaven and the kingdoms of Asia will be your reward. If you succumb, you will achieve the glory of dying in the same Land where Jesus Christ died, and God will not forget that He saw you in the Holy Militia.

I don't like the values secular humanists have. I think they will lead to collapse because the they didn't evaluated their system thoroughly enough and just picked statements from Christianity and illuminism (which is basically Christianity) they though where self evident(read the humanist manifesto, it has no philosophical depth at all). Simple as that.
Examples:
equality, which ignores reality
men is born good, which ignores reality

secular humanists (the non-retarded ones) choose values based on rational self interest/societal needs/rights, they arent just picking them because they seem self evident. If you are a secular humanist you choose not to murder people because murdering people causes harm to people.
Im not sure the humanist manifesto is a great place to start for secular humanism, since there are multiple versions, the earliest of which was explicitly religious. If you have a specific complaint maybe you can direct me to the version you are complaining about.
"Equality" - Are you talking about institutions and people treating people equally, or are you talking about the myth that every human is equal? One is an ideal which society should strive for and the other is clearly bunk.
"Men Born Good" - The concept of "good" in secular humanism relates to human welfare, not some independent scale of good vs. evil. There isn't really any such thing as good or evil, but we can in the context of human life identify "good" and "evil" as "things that are good for people" and "things that are bad for people" respectively. The challenge then becomes what exactly is bad or good for people. I doubt many secular humanists these days would say humans are born good, but they would also deny that humans are somehow born evil. Humans are born human, which implies an imperfect sentient awareness that is capable of logical thought and action but which is layered over an animal instinct. None of this is inherently good and evil and can be turned one way or another based on what they are exposed to in life

>The Prophet Luther (pbuh) also tried to remove Hebrews, James, Jude and Revelation from the Bible. If he had his way, Protestants would consider those "apocrypha" as well.

>Are you talking about institutions and people treating people equally, or are you talking about the myth that every human is equal? One is an ideal which society should strive for and the other is clearly bunk.
All of them. Why should institutions treat people equally? Why should society strive for equality?
>is capable of logical thought and action but which is layered over an animal instinct
You don't understand that humanity IS animal instinct. Logical thinking is just a tool like a computer. There is nothing transcendent about it.
> but we can in the context of human life identify "good" and "evil" as "things that are good for people" and "things that are bad for people"
Why should I care what's good for other people? Why should I be an utilitarian?

You should try reading other books that aren't the bible. You absorb all lies of creationists without even researching what is evolution.

In two parts because of length, oh boy:
Equality of treatment in institutions, so that people have equal access to things like mortgage loans and education based on their merit and not the color of their skin, this is something we still have problems with and almost every year large banks settle prosecutions over their racist practices. Regardless of whether a race or sex as a whole is better or worse intellectually or physically, when institutions like banks or the police or whoever interact with the populace, they are interacting with individuals, not entire statistical chunks of the population, while interacting with individuals it is completely improper to treat them as if they were not worth what they are worth simply because they were born into some minority that is statistically not as good as another one. Thats why institutions should be required to treat people equally.

And:
>You don't understand that humanity IS animal instinct. Logical thinking is just a tool like a computer. There is nothing transcendent about it.
Except that I literally just said there is animal instinct in human beings, in the quote you just greentexted and replied to. Nor did I imply anywhere that there was something trancendent or magical about logical thinking, so you seem to be replying to something that isnt me here.
>Why should I care what's good for other people?
You live around other people on a daily basis, other people make your food, other people provide your internet connection, other people steal from you, other people marry your daughter, other people are all around you. When these other people have better lives, you will tend to have a better life too. Caring about whats good for other people is directly equivalent to caring about yourself, you just dont see the effects as clearly.
>Why should I be an utilitarian?
Why shouldn't you be? If you want to live in a society and not be a cunt, utilitarianism provides the framework that gives you the maximally good society where the most people possible are as happy as possible.

I understand the practical results of equality. But there is nothing imperative about it and there is no reason to abdicate of any privilege I might have if that was the case.
>You live around other people on a daily basis, other people make your food, other people provide your internet connection, other people steal from you, other people marry your daughter, other people are all around you.
Interdependence, but what if they were all slaves, why should I care?
You see, I can go on and on with this nihilism in a secular humanist framework. That's why I think it's just doomed to failure. I personally endorse a lot of it, but there is nothing that convince me that others would.

its the star of david, and jesus told he is a son of david, so why the fuck should this symbol be evil, that doesnt make any sense. it the pentagramm, not the star of david ffs.

>But there is nothing imperative about it and there is no reason to abdicate of any privilege I might have if that was the case.
If you are ok with contributing to an inherently unfair and unmeritocratic society, then no there is no reason to value equality or practice it.
>Interdependence, but what if they were all slaves, why should I care?
Ill humor you if you want to be rediculous: Miserable slaves are more likely to rebel and murder you. Happier slaves will be more inclined to work and even work creatively. Of course slavery itself is obscenely harmful since it revokes freedom and imposes work, so in a secular humanist society would not exist.
>You see, I can go on and on with this nihilism in a secular humanist framework. That's why I think it's just doomed to failure.
Nihilism isn't part of secular humanism, because while it does reject religious basis for its beliefs, the other central tenets of nihilism (life is meaningless and rejection of morality) are not part of secular humanism.

>unfair and unmeritocratic
What is justice/merit? The postmodernists won't shut up on how society is not meritocratic thanks to their socioconstructivist BS.
>"Of course slavery itself is obscenely harmful since it revokes freedom and imposes work"
There are people that can't handle their freedom and that just won't work. What would you do in such case? Of course happier slaves will be more inclined to work and even work creatively, most slaves were probably treated in such manner. If it was the case that slavery lead to a better utilitarian outcome you'd have an contradiction.
>Nihilism isn't part of secular humanism, because while it does reject religious basis for its beliefs, the other central tenets of nihilism (life is meaningless and rejection of morality) are not part of secular humanism.
I am talking from a sociological standpoint, will secular humanism lead to rampant nihilism in society?
Another thing, the UN is based on many humanist principles and it has been a miserable failure.(mainly because it want to be an empire and give self determination to peoples at the same time).
For curiosity sake, do secular humanists believe in forceful proselytism? That you have the duty to stop other people from violating your principles, like conquering a civilization somewhere that sacrifices people to Baal.
