I've talked to people who still support white guilt, even while being aware of these facts. They excused every non-Europeans actions as 'just how things were then...' or 'it was a part of their culture...' '...But Europeans still did bad things!'. When I asked how that can apply to everone else, but not Europeans, they freeze up and try to lead the conversation to a "let's agree to disagree!" ending.
One actually tried telling me that white guilt and feeling remorse for past wrongs is a part of contemporary European culture, so that's why it's okay that it exists. They weren't so bad. Indigenous Americans contributed much to the world in forms of agriculture. Creating entirely new species of crops through selective breeding, that have since been spread around the world. You might be surprised how many common fruits and vegetables you enjoy that were made possible by the native American.
Native Americans had some good ideas for government, there was the Iroquois Confederacy which inspired the United States idea for a Confederation of States under one US Federal Government.
They also have some pretty cool historical monuments and cities, though more common in central and south America. They've built a couple of the world wonders.(the white entry being the stonehenge)
In 1705 the Mohegan tribe had pushed a lawsuit against the English colonial government. They partitioned the Queen that land which had been agreed upon being theirs in treaties was being taken.
Not only did they learn English to do this, but they learned English law. This shows, to this humble anon, they were a step above the simple savages they have historically been described as being. They were fully capable of understanding and integrating into these systems, but the English really just told them to fuck off and cared little of their plight.
