Personally I wouldn't hesitate to call a Shia a fellow Muslim, even though we disagree on key points of doctrine. In the same way, I consider Christian a fellow believer as well. I would never argue that we are the same, but I think we are better together uniting against the real unbelievers. It is still better to believe and be wrong, or to submit partially, than to not believe and not submit at all.

In Islam, we don't follow the New Testament. He fulfilled the prophecies in the Old Testament and is the Messiah. Jesus was the sacrifice for our sins from Adam. The jews had shown massive dislike for what God had done for them and so Jesus made us all equal before God through him.
