You have a good point there. Most Democratic talking points got knocked down during Obama. (like Gay Marriage, Healthcare, DADT, etc.) Dems are divided on drugs and the right wants to roll back a lot of those changes, so a lot of the energy is in their court in 2016.

West Iowa should have a better Trump base I think. I grew up in Burlington, there were plenty of conservatives but a bunch of black people that moved there from the ghettos of Chicago for cheap housing. Later on you mention that Hillary is unpopular because she's insincere, which is true, but I think the larger issue is that she's insecure. I'm definitely biased here, but I feel that Trump's rhetoric has eaten away at Hillary's momentum within her own party that at least partially explains the rise of Bernie.

I honestly think Sanders would be harder.
The thing about Hillary is that she is a criminal that is completely unlikable. The only people who 'like' her are old soccer moms who think that because she is a woman she is cool. This means that her 'fanbase' is possibly the least motivated. Like, seriously, can you imagine anyone going "WOW, I CAN'T WAIT TO VOTE FOR HILLARY!"
The instant Trump brings up her scandals and criminal investigations, she'd fall apart. She already had to stop her 'TRUMP IS LE SEXIST' attacks because Trump vaguely mentioned Bill Clinton's sexual abuse history.
Imagine if Trump was actually focused on her fully, and laid out each and every problem of hers.
Now, Sanders on the other hand is a whole different matter. Sanders is pretty clearly deluded, as are his supporters, but here is the thing: Sanders, generally, has a pretty clean record. You could dig deep and find a few messed up things, but they'd be so small/pointless that the general public won't care.
Sanders also has charisma. Sure, we make fun of him for being a cuck on here, but he actually has some. Nowhere near as much as Trump, but he is clearly tapping into the same style. Sanders is loud, he yells, he points fingers, makes accusations, and 'swears' sort of like Trump. Obviously, if you compare the two, he is like a Trump-lite or Diet Trump, but is still enough to give him SOMETHING. This something gives him an energetic fanbase. As much as we think they're retarded, you have to admit that Sanders voters are awfully dedicated and loyal.
Overall, it'd be easier to be Hillary than Sanders, but Sanders is still easy to beat.

I should also state that I think Bernie is a pretty big wildcard, we won't know until the caucuses whether he's the real deal that can sweep up the nomination from Hillary or if he'll fizzle out. If he accomplishes the former, Trump has a real dangerous opponent. Otherwise, he'll likely lose most of his momentum over the course of super and mini tuesday.
