Nihilism is the final stage of the deconstruction process. All of your previously conceived notions on how the world works have been destroyed. What's left is the understanding that all is meaningless and that everything we do is for naught.
Referred to as 'baby's first existential crisis' for good reason, nihilism will trap the person in a constant negative feedback loop.
After spending a set amount of time in this stage, coming to the conclusion that free will is an illusion and what we do is meaningless, you take a look around, notice that people much older than you, people who have likely endured a nihilistic pit of misery in their lives to varying degrees, are still able to move along in life.
And for what?
For their own constructed purpose, be it family, friends, goal-orientation, getting in shape to attract mates or what have you. Because it serves as a potent driving force to get one's self off of one's ass and do something that doesn't involve jacking off and watching anime all day.
Nihilism precedes the rebuild toward becoming more powerful, more resilient and ultimately more aware of life than you ever were before.

Nihilism is what people adopt if they have bad family relations, friends that don't make you feel happy, goals that always fail or don't give you happiness, or self improvement failing to attract girls or maintain a relationship for more than a week.

It's hilarious to me that so many people project the idea that one who has accepted nihilism must lead a life consisting of depression, rejection of pleasure, misanthropy, or other negatively perceived behavior. It is possible to recognize that nihilism is true, that free will can't exist, etc., and still live a "normal" fulfilling life. Since everything is absent of intrinsic purpose or value, what would the PURPOSE of living a dejected life be? Hmmm? If you think someone must live "negatively" in order to be a "true nihilist" then you are simply unintelligent and a very poor philosopher.
