In light of the recent Zoe Quinn issues, I would like to bring up a very important issue on the internet right now that is causing many good people who are unbiased to be blown back by the ones that are.
The fact that any information relating to Zoe Quinn and the 5 guys was censored on Reddit, 4chan (outside of /pol/ the oasis of free speech (^:) and Youtube suggests a much bigger issue on the internet causing the truth to get covered up and more money to be made.
I was a Facebook page admin for a long time, I ran a page and did not make not a single sent on it. I was part of this group called the "community", and I was ddosd when I put out information showing that many of the page admins were screwing over their fans for money and saying it was going to just causes.
Literally, people who claimed that they were giving money to charity were giving expensive gifts to their girlfriends and pocketing the rest of the money. Any opinion against them was shot down as the money circle jerk went so deep as to extend to Youtube and even Tumblr.
The same thing is happening right now in the gaming and video communitys on the internet. To say that they don't have interaction with each other is idiotic, everyone is protecting everyones internet money out there and if anyone tries to expose it they get wrecked.
The internet isint as divided as you think, literally the popular people extend themselves to others in order to make more money, and exchange other favors for good reviews and more money and attention and its sick.
The fact that this is only now being brought to light is insane and shows how deep this goes, and I know for a fact more people are going to be found out with this Zoe Quinn case. This is only just the start.

Here is an example:
A popular youtuber who makes videos that get lots of views and does reviews on indie games gets attention from the developers of the indie game.
Wanting to get more attention to their game, the developer will pay off the person or do other favors in order to get a good review. It's profit for both of them so its a win win.
The game reviewer also goes on another website (say reddit which arguably is more pop-culture and masses friendly than 4chan) and due to his popularity makes friends with an admin on a gaming subreddit or whatever. Due to them being in with each other the mod will delete any thread or post that causes harm to that reviewer.
The same goes for the developer if he or she is friends with the admin of something somewhere.
The result is a triangle affair between the mod, reviewer, and developer. Pretty much your start to finish way to have control over your market and show people stuff that you want them to see.
To get more power you simply expand the web or it does so itself, which allows for even more censoring and covering up, all for profit and attention.
And the people will keep farming it too, with new youtube channels and their own websites and merchandise.
This would be ok if they stated that they were acting like a company, but they hide behind that and act like they do it for the fans, and thats where the issue is as well as the conflicts of interest.

During my time on Facebook as an admin in the community I saw how bad this would get and its actually caused the culture (if there is any) of the internet to go downhill into a pile of mush.
People would literally farm facebook pages and spam money links and than sell the pages to another admin (I can provide links if you guy want to these groups that do this).
They posted the same content every single day and nothing new came out of it.
They even went as far as to post ads on 4chan.
It killed the originality of the place, and as long as people continue to attack anyone who has an opinion that would upset the balance of who has power in this web than websites will continue to take down stuff they see as hurtful to their protector and their money.
Its going to take a huge internet "revolution" for this to change, its not just Zoe Quin it extends to a ton of others.

From what I'm gathering, many of these "high profile" game devs and gaming journalists haven't grown up. They still work with the "we're the cool kids" mentality. It shows in the way they talk, the way they write, the way they want to do things EXCLUSIVELY WITH EACH OTHER.
I mean, I really wanna write a good article about this. I really wanna get this out there.. But no fucking dev is willing to be named. None of them are willing to say "you can quote me on that".

Unfortunately I don't quite follow your logic here. If reviewers basically advertise games rather than reviewing them nobody will watch videos from that reviewer, therefore money stream stops. I think this is taking place right now in the gaming industry. I never paid attention to reviewers anyway but the people who did may now consider a different pastime.
There may also be a wider conspiracy at play here. Zoey was linked to the Gawker network which is involved in more than video games. Supporting this whole network with Zoey near the centre might actually be a massive waste of money rather than a profitable exercise.
