I've never met an English person that dislikes the Irish but it seems the Irish are far more nationalistic and are more likely to dislike their neighbors.
I've been to/partied in Ireland though and everyone was nothing but nice, stayed in Dublin for a week and had a blast.
They have a more carefree and social society there, big difference from built-up parts of England. It's more like rural England but even in a major city like Dublin.

I don't have a problem with them. I find south Irish to be a bit aggressive, a bit in your face. North Irish I find friendlier but you can't talk to them about politics, or anything remotely hinting at politics, because they may turn out to have wacko views, either way.
I'm from Glasgow and the anti Irish stuff is nowhere near as bad as in my parents and grandparents day, but there is an undercurrent of anti Irish and anti catholicism is daily Scottish life, I'd say. When Ireland played Scotland in the euro 2016 qualifiers recently, there was anti Catholic stuff from some Scotland fans
The Irish fans then sang, 'stand up if you haven't got a queen' and stood up. They were bewildered as too why Scotland voted No in the 2014 referendum. It wasn't quite rangers v celtic type atmosphere, because Scottish nationalism cuts across that. But it wasn't a million miles off.
But then we are so similar. Our culture and versions of Gaelic are almost the same. Even the northern Irish accent and dialect is actually called 'ulster Scots'. some words are the same. Like aye, or weans, or things like that.
Irish English relations are more strained still. Bear in mind as recently as the 1990s the IRA were trying to bomb London and downing Street.
But overall relations are good, despite all this lol, and travel between us is common and work and personal relationships are all fine, by on large.

Dublin is just unbelievably shit. Temple Bar is the most unappealing place I can think to go drinking. Shitty violent pubs overflowing with scum bags. And outside of that there's hardly anything notable to go to. I used to live in Dun Laoghaire, which is meant to be one of the nicer areas of the city. It's a total ghost town, and despite being up market it's still somehow over run with scum bags. The only good things I can think of in Dublin is it has a lot of big shops and phoenix park. That's all. I'd firebomb everything else.
What sickens me is how romanticized the city is. Like temple bar is this "iconic" "rustic" "historic" area, when in reality it's violent piss soaked nightmare.
Used to live in cork for awhile too. Cork is a great city. At least I loved it. Shabby in places, but great character and pleasant people. Hardly any actual shit holes in it.
