Okay I really need help. I have been shooting for a couple years now, I always wanted to shoot landscape because lets be honest they are pretty as fuck. So after a few years of learning different skills and creating "art", I came to the biggest picture block ever, everything looked like shit and unoriginal. So I gave landscape a go. That shits hard. The last month I travelled all along lake ontario looking for pretty places but I cannot, for the life of me figure out how to translate the beauty of the landscape into my photographs. So I ask all of you
1. How to I get out of a photo block?
2. Take beautiful fucking photos of mother nature. ?
And share some of your Landscapes while your here.
Heres my best attempt

I'm no expert, so take this with a grain of salt.
Your photos seem to have the right idea and you are trying to make multiple layers happen. However, the pictures are not sharp and the color is no good. Other than in post, you can correct the color by shooting at a different time of day or a day with different weather. Also if I am reading the exif right your shutter is too slow and you could do better shooting at f/8.
In end none of this really matters because you have the right idea and will eventually make cool photos if you persist. Don't give up on yourself.

Wanted to get some neat pics of gotham looking hamilton but to much smog

Here was my attempt OP. Shot at 1.8 like a dumbass tho

have you found anywhere else around with great landscapes? its so hard when theres so many god damn trees
start making panoramas. a single frame cannot translate beauty of a landscape, duh.
Well you'd probably be better off picking a better location. Almost completely flat with bland trees isn't really the best subject for a landscape photo

Chedoke falls in hamilton is cool
Markham nigger here, having the same issue, its just a general lack of imagination, spark and available landscape for me. When i dont have my camera, i would get a good/decent photo op out of the blue during work (landscaping), or walking home or w/e during late night.

i think your picture would've been amazing if it was during a dusk, or something, your in a good spot/location but the weather just seem shitty
Alrighty OP, a few things.
1. choose how much of the sky you wanna show according to the landscape. (Hypocritical because I screwed up a bit there too, but good advice.)
2. If your lens is wide, don't go over f11. If it's shallow, don't go over f16.
3. Take your time to frame things. The landscape features like buildings and mountains are static so no need to stress and shutter spam.
4. Processing - learn to edit. Masks, brush, graphs; learn it, play around with it.
5. Shallow focal length for single subjects like one (or a couple) big mountain and to make it look big. Wider focal length to capture everything.
That's just from the top of my head.
I sound a cocky but do go and check out my thread, landscapes from a hike. I have only a 40 2.8, my phone acts as my 35.

Which 40 2.8 is it?
>>2741520
Canon. The cheap pancake, STM.
>>2741634
I read that lens' image quality goes to shit at anything smaller than f/9.0. True/false?
>>2740888
You gotta break your schedule, man.
Get up early AF and get a sunrise.
new lighting/times, new ideas/shots.
>>2741740
I wouldn't go so far as to call it shit but yea it goes quite soft.
>>2740901
This would have been good if you exposed it properly.
It looks like you shot it at 1.8 to compensate for your shutter which was set to 1/4000. A shutter speed that fast is completely unnecessary for a landscape shot, even handheld. Also, it was daytime, so you had all the light you needed.
You probably know this, but generally a tighter aperture is needed for a deeper depth of field or to have most of the frame in focus. Don't close the iris as tight as possible though because that can actually make things a little blurry especially with cheaper lenses. Going for somewhere around F9-F11 is pretty safe for a DSLR

Yeah, thanks. Those were the "I have a prime lets shoot everything wide open" days

I thought this was kodak gold. Did you slap on a vsco?

Yes, dark days when I was less subtle about my VSCO usage
