SO I sold some bullshit I had lying around and now I've got about $1500 extra dollar bills. Help me decide what's a better use.
- Second camera body (so I can timelapse cool stuff but also hand held other stuff. Multi-tasking. Also good to speed things up during modeling shoots so I don't have to change lenses)
- Dope as DJI Phantom 4.
- Dope ass trip somewhere.
I know trip makes the most sense but I also live somewhere really beautiful and I have a full time job so I can continue to make more money....
Bumping with pictures I've taken so you can all get a feel for my style, I assume that'll help you decide.

How about on learning to edit properly so you lose the SONYCOLOURS

See the sky here, how the blues are kinda unsaturated and a bit of a funky hue?
>>2844462
That's Sony colours.
Top tips to avoid them
#1 Before you do anything to your edit, go down to the camera calibration tab at the bottom of lightroom, choose a colour profile (I usually stick with neutral) and then edit from there, starting with sat and hue for each RGB channel until it starts looking "correct"
#2. Use your colour picker to tell you exactly the balance of colour in your sky - you want red and green to be pretty much equal and blue a bit higher; the sky is blue 99% of the time, it doesn't have a tinge of green or purple.
#3. Pinks/magenta hues have a tendency to blow the fuck out of at least one channel - be wary of when you need to drop saturation on those colours.
#4 Reds come out a bit bright and flat, again dropping the sat and lum slightly can bring back a lot of texture and depth.
#5 Shots can have a tendency to look like they've been pissed on, with a weird yellowy veil. Be mindful when setting WB.
Alternatively, there are colour profiles set to fix the sony colours (such as those with VSCO) and this guy has done a set of profiles that can often be a much better starting point http://www.piraccini.net/2011/02/profili-colore-sony-a900-per-adobe-lr.html
Best of luck :) oh and I'll take that $1500 by paypal, ta.

That's all good feedback, I definitely appreciate it!
I always shoot raw, and then on my lightroom import all the shots get auto-tweaked slightly, but I've never actually looked into what the tweak was, since I was planning on doing some post processing anyways. Thanks for the feedback.

Well hey, at least I'm not a giant cunt like you, so I'm better off in the long run.
Feel free to just ignore a thread if you don't like it.
Does anyone have any actual input? Or is everyone here such a poor fag that when a gear thread happens all they can do is shit on other people's work?

Makes no sense to get another Sony body until the A9 is released.
New lens might be a good purchase, looking at your exif I take it you have the 28mm f2, 55 f1.8 and 70-200 f4. Might be worth chopping in the f4 for the new 70-200 2.8, or getting the 85mm or 90mm to fill in your trio of primes.
Get a drone? waste of money unless your prepared to put in serious time and effort to git gud imho.
Dope ass trip? personally $1500 would be for a minimum 2 month getaway for me, Im gonna guess your job won't allow such flexibility though. Again, personally, I'd spend much less and save the remainder cash.
I don't like any of the options that much. A trip could be nice but as you say you've got some spectacular scenery to shoot locally. The Phantom would be fun but they're really not all that useful, and you'll actually blow your budget by the time you get a good setup. (We were at least 2k into the one my old job had.)
I guess the second body makes the most sense, but I'm not sure how useful it'd be.
I think I'd put the money into glass or lighting if it were me, but I guess maybe you've already got everything you need.
One more left-field and semi-meme answer would be to buy an MF film camera of some sort and spend the rest on film and dev, you've got an environment that I think would lend itself very well to film photography in a format larger than 135.
>>2844459
>buying drone instead building it
You deserve every shit in your life.
invest it
It looks like you're well geared out already and if you don't have a spot in mind already to go to you should just sit on it and grow the money.

Awesome response. I've been debating trading the 70-200 f4 for the 2.8 but I'm not sure I want to deal with that much extra weight and size. The speed would really be nice though.
I was also thinking A6300 if I got a second body, because the crop factor would give me 3 different focal lengths to play with, plus 4K video capability.
The drone is tough. I'm really psyched up on videos I've seen, but I've never flown one so I'm worried I'd end up with a super expensive toy that isn't really that practical. Like, seems like a ton of work to haul a drone anywhere on a hike, and then take the time to fly it. But the good videos from even the Phantom 2 are incredible.
>>2844494
Fair, thanks for the response. I've got a K1000 actually, but I never use it. Probably should but it's so hard to motivate myself to carry that around when I have an A7ii. That's just me being a lazy bitch though, so I should work on it.

I totally get not using the K1000, it really doesn't offer much that FF digital doesn't. I specified MF because you actually get a different look and feel out of it, it's much easier to get good scans, and you have interesting elements like 6x6 forcing you to rethink composition.
I like that guy's filter suggestion above, though.
Another thing I just thought of, if OP doesn't already have them, would be a good IPS monitor and calibrator, and a 13"x19" photo printer. These kinds of photos are just begging for prints.
>>2844516
Any recommendations for a monitor? Mine actually does suck so I've been debating that, but I don't really want to drop like $400 on a computer monitor. Unless maybe that's just how much one goes for nowadays....
Fuck me you do live somewhere pretty. I'd go on a trip lad, Spain or Namibia lad if you like landscapes.

Well I've got the Tetons and Peru on the horizon already which is awesome. Namibia is an interesting suggestion, I love that.

>>2844459
I like your photos breh. Question, did you do multiple exposures for these or just good post processing?
Also, either get the a6300 or a sweet trip.
>>2844459
Don't waste your money on a drone or a second body. You've already got a great camera, and what will a drone do for you? Just some cool video clips?
Go on some good trips. You don't even need to spend a lot of money to go on a trip if you know how to spend it properly.
Las year I started in San Diego (where I live) drove to grand canyon, horseshoe bend, antelope canyon, monument valley, and sedona. Cost me less than $500, and that's a fucking kickass road trip. The better you plan the trip, the less you'll have to spend, and the most you can make of your time.
>>2844489
Go on a trip. Better to have one decent camera body and amazing subjects than two cameras and nothing interesting to catpure.

quite good shots, the one with the person in the middle I like in particular
these files suck pretty bad tho, what in the world did you do to them to make them look so bad?
could you post an unprocessed, only resized, jpeg straight from the camera, or an unedited jpeg converted straight from a raw without any editing?
'cause it may also be that sony cameras produce bad files but I would be inclined to think otherwise and I'd like to verify
>>2846149
I guess I'm not fully sure what you mean when you say the pics are good but the files are bad.
Here's an unedited jpg for ya, regardless.

These are all single exposure. Bracketing is annoying to me, and the shadow recomp from my A7 is good enough to not need it. Here's one from yesterday. This is in the RPT but I've never made a thread on /p/ before so I figure I should keep some good shots in here too.

Like maybe bad compression? I dunno, I just export them at this size from lightroom and then 4chan fucks them up from there.
>>2847160
He probably means bad compression, though I don't notice anything wrong with the photos OP has posted.
>>2846149
>'cause it may also be that sony cameras produce bad files but I would be inclined to think otherwise and I'd like to verify
I've noticed that out of camera jpgs from sony have some weird compression artifacts, but jpgs made from raw are fine.
>>2846383
>what you mean when you say the pics are good but the files are bad.
these photos are good in that in my opinion they are neatly composed, neatly exposed, with nice looking subjects and no distracting stuff
the files are bad in that the editing and/or compression makes them look worse than they could, or at least that's what I suspect
especially >>2844459 and >>2844460 look somewhat over-sharpened, but the fine details look bad/washed out/soft, because of bad compression or resizing possibly
