Can't have one of these threads without mentioning Julius Shulman. His stuff doesn't look that incredible in today's context, but he really revolutionized the art.

My dad is an architect and met Shulman a few years before he died, and has a book signed by him somewhere. I'm kind of sad I wasn't able to go to that signing.

He actually hasn't worked as a traditional architect in almost 30 years, but he's still licensed. He's a movie/TV Art Director now, and in that industry you're contracted per project instead of being permanent company staff.

He's worked on a lot of really major stuff, but I'm hesitant to name any of it because 30 seconds on IMDB would come up with his real name if I did.

Oh, I can name one thing that pretty much everybody here has probably seen before, and which won't ID him too easily.

If you've ever watched anything in the last 15 years or so that takes place in Iraq or Afghanistan, from commercials to History Channel shows to those new Steven Segal movies that /k/ likes to make fun of, the "Middle Eastern Town" that they're all shot in is my dad's work.
